Live from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia
IT IS TIME FOR THE PEEP SHOW!!! Welcome peeps to a brand new 205 Live review, just forty eight hours removed from a historic Clash of Champions pay-per-view. We will be live and running from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia where the legendary championship reign of Drew Gulak continues at eighty six days on the dot. After the events of Clash of Champions, what will be next for the 205 Live brand? There is some speculation as towards tonight but all we have confirmed by social media is a grudge match between Tony Nese and Oney Lorcan. For those unaware from last week, Nese attacked Lorcan in the backstage area after losing his match against Mike Kanellis. Now, after reforming his alliance with cruiserweight champion Gulak, we will see these two gladiators battle it out in the ring! Another possibility we might see tonight that has not been confirmed yet another Bollywood Boyz backstage promo and a very frustrated Humberto Carillo, who will seek retribution after not getting pinned this past Sunday. I mean, Humberto is cool and all but let us get some NEW challengers! Bring in Angel Garza Jr. or Isaiah “Swerve” Scott and let them step up! Now in terms of Mike Kanellis, despite his win against Nese, it is actually worrying to see what he does tonight. He jobbed to Ricochet after Rico was accused of being the father of Maria Kanellis’s baby boy. Hope the hottest hour on television gets the attention it deserves and let us begin!
Match #1 – Lince Dorado vs. Ariya Daivari
The bell rings and Daivari trash talks Dorado on not listening to him. Dorado immediately takes him out to the outside and hits two springboard planchas. The Golden Lynx hits a hurricanrana from the barricade on the floor. He then gets hot with offense until Daivari throws him over the top rope which makes a nasty landing. He takes advantage and puts a headlock on Dorado. Dorado hits a springboard high crossbody for two unsuccessful pinfalls. Ariya hits a DDT to take that momentum on his offense. After applying another headlock, Lince tries to comeback but is caught with a sleeper hold. Dorado reverses into a springboard back kick, knocking down Daivari Dinero. After multiple chops, he starts to comeback with his unique offense. It almost reminds me of a comeback that you can assign on WWE 2K19. Dorado then hits a flying crossbody from the top rope. He attempts a shooting star press but is caught by Daivari with a top rope move of his own. He then tries to hit him with three moonsaults but is not successful. Daivari stops his fire with a Rock Bottom that would make Dwayne Johnson shake his head in disappointment. He then attempts a Hammerlock Clothesline but gets reversed. After multiple pin attempts, it seems that Dorado cannot be put away. Both Dorado and Daivari fight on the top rope but it is Dorado who makes the money rain and leads to a Shooting Star Press for the pinfall victory!
Result: Lince Dorado via pinfall
My Thoughts:
Mr. Dorado is certainly impressive to say the least when it comes to in-ring ability. But that will not change the fact that he still has me blocked on Instagram and Twitter for simply stating the fact that The Lucha House Party is holding him back. Aside from that, Daivari had a great showing himself but the Dinero gimmick does not fit well with him. Trying to convince the wrong Lucha House Party member to turn into a singles star will “work” just like how it did with Hideo Itami and now he is released from WWE, killing it in Japan. Now that I am thinking about it, I think it is best for Dorado to end his contract and pursue the same goals because it seems that being in a rivalry leads to success elsewhere outside of 205.
Oney Lorcan cuts a promo on how he will hurt Tony Nese for hurting him and he will go after Drew Gulak afterwards
Match #2 – The Brian Kendrick with Akira Tozawa vs. Gentleman Jack Gallagher
The bell rings and both Brian and Gallagher have a test of strength. It is Gallagher’s unique technician style that intrigues fans the most. Irish whip leads to a dropkick, rolling Kendrick into the outside. The Extraordinary Gentleman plays games with The Man with a Plan and hits a back body drop. The fight continues onto the outside at ringside. Kendrick pushes Gallagher into Tozawa at ringside. Tozawa and Gallagher have a confrenation at ringside until Kendrick sneaks a kendo stick shot to the back to cause a disqualification. Kendrick applies a crossface with the kendo stick on Gallagher. Tozawa stops the attack but it only causes Kendrick to turn on him and resort to an attack on his former friend. He then leaves the ring with a smirk on his face with arrogance as he has betrayed Tozawa, who is shocked in the ring at the events that have just happened.
Result: Gentleman Jack Gallagher via Disqualification
My Thoughts:
Seeing The Brian Kendrick turn heel was way overdue considering this babyface run that he has been on for the past year has not suited the cruiserweight veteran well. However, seeing an unnecessary disqualification via kendo stick makes me question 205 creative in what made Kendrick think he is The Sandman. Other than that, it was a well-deserved heel turn. Think about this, Kendrick was the second cruiserweight champion. He downgraded from champion to outsider really quick after losing it to Rich Swann on the world premiere of 205 Live almost three years ago! Hope we can take this veteran more seriously again as time goes on.
Backstage Interview – Sarah Schreiber and Humberto Carrillo
Sarah Schreiber is seen backstage about to interview her guest Humberto Carrillo, who took the loss against Lince Dorado and Drew Gulak in the cruiserweight championship match this past Sunday at Clash of Champions. Carrillo responds by claiming that he had the match won if it was not for Drew Gulak who soiled his glory, feeling disappointed that he stole his moment. He knows that if he had the opportunity to face Gulak in one on one competition, he would triumph as the new champion. He then promises that he will earn a new opportunity and become the new cruiserweight champion.
Main Event – Oney Lorcan vs. Tony Nese
The bell rings for the main event of the hottest hour on television and you can feel the heat between these two competitors, who have both faced Drew Gulak in the past for the cruiserweight championship. Oney Lorcan gets the upperhand immediately with a takedown and starts the ground and pound on Tony Nese. Both men go back and forth with the defensive and offensive mechanisms with the ground and pound. This leads Nese to roll out to take a breather for a quick moment but Oney Lorcan catches up to him in the ring. Nese sets up for a moonsault but Lorcan catches him after Nese’s kip up with a clothesline to the back of the head. This leads Lorcan to hit a Michinoku Driver that lays The Premiere Athlete out followed by a kitchen sink. Showing his hard knock Boston style, Lorcan goes to work on Nese, firing him up. He sends Nese over the top rope with a clothesline. He attempts to throw Nese into the announce table but Tony finds a loop hole and drives him into the barricade multiple times. He drives him into the broken announce table and the referee starts the ten count. After Lorcan beats the count, Nese literally stomps a mudhole into the corner turnbuckle and hits a scoop slam. Back in the ring, Nese hits a unique sunset flip – superkick combination to take the Boston kid out. Failing to put Oney away, he hits a hard Irish whip to the corner. Nese then hits the stalling Bobby Lashley suplex. After a brutal body scissors, Oney fights out of it with lethal chops. While going for a springboard moonsault, Tony misses and gets Lorcan the advantage. The brawler gets fired up with rage and quickly hits multiple back elbows and hits a tremendous blockbuster, sending Nese rolling out of the ring. Lorcan resents to throwing Nese into the WWE Universe in the ATL. After throwing Nese multiple times into the barricade, he attempts the Half and Half Suplex but Nese reverses. While it looks like that Nese will get the momentum back to him, Lorcan hits a huge clothesline. Chop after chop, Lorcan goes for Half and Half once again but it is reversed yet again and Nese hits a double stomp to the targeted ribs. Nese attempts the dudebuster but gets caught by Lorcan. Lorcan tries to go big with a diving attack but quickly gets caught by Nese with an open palm strike. An exhausted Nese attempts a Running Nese gets caught with a dropkick from the Boston Brawler. Lorcan tries to go for a Super Half and Half Suplex but Nese reverses. He then hits Nese with a flying uppercut. While Nese is on the outside, Drew Gulak appears and distracts Lorcan just for Nese to roll him up in the school boy for the victory.
Result: Tony Nese via rollup pinfall
My Thoughts:
WE WERE BLESSED WITH THE APPEARANCE FROM OUR CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPION!!! I love this reunion between Nese and Gulak as it brings back the nostalgia of their alliance from the beginnings of the cruiserweight division. They started on Raw together and now both men are on top of this division, running this show! Other than that, I really love how Lorcan has been made a star since joining 205, especially being in the title picture against Drew Gulak. In all honesty, having the Boston Brawler show that bareknuckle style reminds me of Tommy Dreamer, in the sense that he busts his ass, puts his heart out, and even in defeat, makes you want to cheer for him. Tonight was no different! You can argue all you want about the ending being controversial but showing the resiliency that man has was beautiful. Never give up attitude and fighting till the very end. Tony Nese did what he did best, which is simply impress. His show of strength, agility, and athleticism showcased tonight proves as the wrestling fan why he is a former Cruiserweight champion. Do I see Lorcan facing Drew again? – Absolutely. Do I think this storyline has been great? – Not necessarily but hopefully within time that can improve. But awesome way to end the show!
Final Thoughts
NO BOLLYWOOD BOYZ PROMO?? Thank the wrestling gods above! 205 Live proved that there is not a hotter hour on television than this brand. I will admit, there was moments that made me smile as a guy who consistently watches this on the regular. For example, seeing The Brian Kendrick finally return to his heel roots and end the travesty of being Tozawa’s friend was great (minus the kendo stick). Contrary to what I personally think about Dorado, once again, he simply impressed me tonight. The main event killed it as per usual and yet fans do not tune into this incredible show on the WWE Network nor attend it after SmackDown. Although there are points to be made, this show is something special with a roster who knows how to showcase professional wrestling and entertain simultaneously. That is what this business is folks, its entertainment and athleticism put together. Before I sign off from my undisclosed location, I want to say to all my peeps, do not sleep on 205. Trust me when I say that this show is a gem in wrestling today, showcasing raw talent and the biggest kept secret ever known with not enough people to keep it. Goodnight!
