Raw comes to us from the Allstate Arena in Chicago, IL.
Raw kicks off with us being welcomed by Jerry “The King” Lawler, Dio Maddin, and Vic Joseph
In-Ring Segment: Raw Town Hall
The Raw superstars surround the ring as Rollins stands in the ring. Rollins tells the crowd who was chanting CM Punk he tried to get him here but he didn’t want to show up, he wanted to sit behind a desk and talk about a change he’s too afraid to make himself. He says it isn’t about him though, this is about this locker room. He tells how NXT mopped the floor with Raw and he hates that. He tells how he has been a fan of Raw his entire life and to see what it’s become breaks his heart because this show is better than that. He tells the locker room that last night at Survivor Series they all sucked. Rollins says they all dropped the ball and they have to fix it. He says they need to take the Raw flag and plant back in the ground and make this place great again. He says he believes in Monday Night Raw and if anyone wants to speak up and say something now would be the time. He asks Randy Orton and tells him he was the weak link last night. Orton walks away and Rollins tells him he will keep sticking his neck out, he says Orton’s been out here long enough to get out of here. He then asks Charlotte and tells how she wasn’t even the last one standing for Raw and she calls herself a Flair. Charlotte then turns around and walks out. He then tells AOP they could have used them last night, but they didn’t need them last night and they don’t need them tonight either. They then walk out. He then asks Rey Mysterio. He tells Rey more than anybody he let all of them down. Rollins tells how he beat Lesnar two times this year but Rey couldn’t get the job done with the lead pipe and his stupid kid around. He tells Rey maybe he isn’t the Rey Mysterio we all grew up loving. He says he is trying to motivate, this is their show and they need to stand up for it. Everyone has walked out now expect for KO (Kevin Owens)! Rollins tells the crowd Owens new name is Mr. NXT. he then invites Owens to come in and say what he needs to say. Rollins says this is coming from his heart, he says he loves this place, every single guy and girl in the back and all he does day in and day out is think how this can be better. He says this isn’t about him. He asks Owens what he does, he says Owens just shows up and doesn’t do anything. He tells that Owens wants his spot but he will never be Seth Rollins. Owens grabs a mic but before he can talk he hits Rollins with a Stunner!
My Opinion:
Rollins was harsh in that but I loved it. He took it there and it was really intriguing and different from what we normally see. Rollins acting like this might but a good spot for him right now because he was in need of a change and this definitely is a change. Owens laid him out and I hope this means Owens is going to be the guy right now. He deserves it and he has been doing incredible things. He’s the guy who the fans love and there is no doubt KO can be the face of Raw!
Backstage Segment: Seth Rollins
Charly tells Seth it doesn’t seem like he accomplished what he hoped. He says obviously not and tells he was just trying to do the right thing but Kevin Owens didn’t want to hear and wanted to stun him. He then challenges Owens to a match later tonight.
Match 1: Bobby Lashley w/ Lana vs Titus O’Neil
*** Earlier today Rusev was served with another restraining order.
The two lock up and Lashley backs him to the ropes. Lashley gets him in the corner but Titus comes back with a big right hand and stays on the offensive. Lashley comes back with an elbow. Titus hits him with a chop but he is then planted by Lashley. Out of nowhere, here comes Rusev! Rusev beats down Lashley and literally kicks him out of the ring. He then goes to the outside and continues to beat on him. Rusev picks him up and throws him into the steps. He then drives him into the barricade. Lashley fights back but Rusev stays with it and knocks him down on the stage after a big right hand. Rusev brings him up the stage and throws him into the screens. He then bounces him off the announcer’s table and clears the table. Rusev hits him with a right. Out comes the police and they grab Rusev telling him he is under arrest. Rusev fights away after being handcuffed and bumps Lashley off the stage. More cops come out and try to hold him back. He then kicks down a metal stage prop and it falls over Lashley. Rusev screams that he is back.
Winner: Bobby Lashey: Via DQ
My Opinion:
Finally, Rusev gets his and this got to where this needed to be and that is action not talk. Rusev laid out Lashley and when he says he is back he sure did seem like it. As I’ve said, I’m not a fan of what has been going on with this story but I wanted to at least see Rusev come out on top of this. He is over with the crowd, he did look like a monster tonight and if done right, he will be one of the hottest guys going very soon.
*** Bobby Lashley was stretchered out during the commercial and is being taken to a local medical facility.
Match 2: AOP (Akam & Rezar) vs Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder
Hawkins is quickly taken down and out. Rezar comes in and helps out Akam. Ryder is now brought in and he is beaten down with vicious knee strikes. They hit the supercollider on Hawkins and Ryder and both are down. Rezar comes back in and the two drop Hawkins. He covers Hawkins and gets the 1 2 3.
Winners: AOP (Akam & Rezar)
My Opinion:
It was good to see AOP finally back in action. They looked great and didn’t miss a beat. They have always been a dominant devastating combination of power and quickness and they still got it. These are the guys who can run the Raw tag division for sure and I can’t wait to see them battle for the Championships. It’ll be interesting to see how quick their rise back to the top is but judging by tonight they are going to destroy whoever steps in their way.
Match 3: Akira Tozawa vs Andrade w/ Zelina Vega
Andrade is able to grab Tozawa quickly and powerbomb him to the mat. Andrade unloads in the corner and then hits a huge chop. Andrade stays on him and works him on the mat. Andrade hits a suplex but misses on the second as Tozawa locks an inside cradle. Andrade kicks out. Tozawa fights back and is able to land a snap German Suplex. Tozawa goes up top but Andrade stops him. Andrade stomps on him and then hits double knees in the corner. Andrade lifts him to his feet and then hits the hammerlock DDT. Hw goes for the cover and gets the 1 2 3.
Winner: Andrade
My Opinion:
Andrade is impressive once again and tonight he seemingly dominated without any help. He shows he can get it done and that is what makes him dangerous because he can do it by himself but he always has back up with Vega. Andrade is becoming a guy who should and is going to be on top of Raw. He is one of the most impressive guys today and he can go out there and have a great match with anybody. I hope he gets bigger opportunities soon and shines like he did when he was NXT Champion!
Aleister Black:
Black asks (Buddy Murphy) do you understand the repercussions of what you’ve done when you knocked on my door. Black says he is coming to collect tonight during his match. He says your mere presence in this arena tells him he wants to pick a fight with him.
Match 4: Matt Hardy vs Buddy Murphy
Murphy backs Hardy in the corner and unloads with shots to the midsection and the big kicks. /hardy answers with a right hand and leads Murphy into the turnbuckle. He then rains down right hands in the corner. Murphy slips out and lands a huge kick. Murphy then knocks him down and Hardy bounces off the middle turnbuckle and falls to the floor. Murphy Goes to the outside and drives him into the barricade. Murphybrigns him into the ring and looks to fly but Hardy side steps and is able to connect with the side effect. Murphy fights back but Hardy hits him with a right and hits him in the corner. He looks for the bulldog but Murphy counters. Hardy goes up top and hits an elbow to the neck. Hardy looks for the Twist Of Fate but Murphy counters and connects with a devastating knee. He follows with another knee and pulls Hardy. He hits him with another knee and goes for the cover, 1 2 3 Murphy wins.
*** After the match Murphy tells Black he has come to pick a fight with… he is then cut off and here comes Aleister Black! Black comes into the ring quickly and unloads on Murphy with huge strikes. Black bounces him off the ropes and connects with a big-time knee. Murphy looks to get back into the ring but thinks twice and walks away.
Winner: Buddy Murphy
My Opinion:
Murphy was very impressive in his win tonight. Hardy gave him a fight but Murphy is proving he has what it takes to get it done. He has amazing strikes and knows how to pick his spots. Murphy has learned how to put matches away, but he has to learn how to pick his fights. He was not ready for Black tonight and Black easily put him down. I think when these two have a match it will be a devastating striking bout and they will deliver, this rivalry could be a huge bright spot on Raw.
Backstage Segment: Charlotte Flair
Charly welcomes Charlotte flair and asks if she thought her behavior was captain-like. Flair says she never said she was a team player but she was the only qualified to lead team Raw. she goes over her history with Asuka and says now she wants to use a green mist. She says Asuka knows that’s the only way she can beat her and tonight she is going to remind her she is the 10 time Women’s Champion and The Queen.
AJ Styles (c) vs Humberto Carrillo: United States Championship Match
*** Before the match Anderson and Gallows attack him from behind. Carrillo fights back for a moment but Anderson and Gallows get to him and slam him on the apron. They then send Carrillo into the steps and lay him out. Styles says this is unfortunate and speaking of unfortunate I thought Ricochet was a superhero but he didn’t make it out in time to save his buddy. Ricochet asks if this is what has become of the great AJ Styles. He says this isn’t what a champion is made of. He then challenges Styles for the U.S. title He says he signed a title match with Humberto and Humberto alone and he just got carried out the back so it’s not going to happen. Out comes Randy Orton. Orton says he can compete. He says he figured the people of Chicago would love nothing more than to see him RKO AJ Styles ass right through the canvas. He then challenges Styles to a title match. Styles then talks about how he’s beaten Orton and says he has nothing to prove to two guys he has already beaten so it’s going to happen. Out comes Drew Mcintyre. Mcintyre talks himself up about what he did last night at Survivor Series. He says Chicago doesn’t deserve this match but then challenges Styles to a title match. Styles says he is a little sore tonight. Here comes Rey Mysterio. Mysterio tells how he stepped in and out of a fight with Brock Lesnar. He tells styles he is making up excuses and he doesn’t want to defend the U.S. title. He says he is going to let Style jip these people out of a title match. He then challenges Styles. Styles says they haven’t earned anything. He says out of principle alone he declines. Ricochet cuts off Orton and says Ricochet smells a challenge and he has an idea. He says about they have a Fatal Four Way and the winner challenges Styles later tonight. Mcintyre says he prefers his idea. Styles says that is a dumb idea. He then asks Gallows and Anderson to back him up but they say the idea sounds pretty cool. Styles says he is going to pick the bones so they’re on.
My Opinion:
I was excited for Carrillo to have this opportunity but hopefully, in due time he will get it again. Right now though this a huge announcement. I think matches and segments like this are what Raw needs right now, keep the excitement high and leave it as you never know what you’re going to get kind of mindset. A general manager could have taken care of this but of course Raw doesn’t have one, but having the superstars call their shots works and I can’t wait to see this one play out!
Match 5: Randy Orton vs Ricochet vs Rey Mysterio vs Drew Mcintyre: Winner Faces AJ Styles for the United States championship Tonight

He then hits a dropkick on Mysterio. Mcintyre lifts Ricochet and looks to slam him but Ricochet is able to roll him up. Mcintyre kicks out. Mcintyre hits a powerbomb and goes for the cover but Ricochet kicks out. Orton comes out of nowhere and hits Orton with an RKO he goes for the cover but The O.C. comes in and pulls him off. They then take him out on the outside. Mysterio flies but he is caught by Ricochet. Mysterio works an inside cradle and gets the 1 2 3!
Winner: Rey Mysterio: #1 Contender for the U.S. championship
My Opinion:
That was an awesome match between these four and I loved the interesting dynamic between them. Mysterio was able to pick his spot and ultimately got the win after Orton was seemingly robbed out of the title shot. For Mysterio, he did a lot in that match but luckily was able to take a breather at the end before rolling up Ricochet. Mysterio deserves this so I’m glad he gets this shot even though it’s gonna be tough having this match back to back.
Match 6: AJ Styles w/ The O.C. vs Rey Mysterio: U.S. Championship Match
Styles quickly attacks Mysterio and beats him down in the corner. Styles stays on him and then bounces him off the turnbuckle. Styles does this again and then one time for good measure. He plants him and then covers but gets a near fall. Mysterio is able to flip Styles into the cover but Styles just kicks out. Mysterio comes off the ropes and sends Styles into the ropes with a hurricanranna. Mysterio hits the 619 but Styles is hit into the ref. Mysterio covers but out comes The O.C. to beat him down while the ref is down. Here comes Randy Orton to help out Mysterio. He takes out Gallows and then Anderson. Orton is hit with a forearm but Orton avoids Styles and it allows Mysterio to dorp Styles into the ropes. He hits the 619 and Orton then hits the RKO. Mysterio hits the frog splash and gets the cover for the 1 2 3. Mysterio is the new champ!!! He then celebrates with his son.
Winner: Rey Mysterio: NEW United States Champion
My Opinion:
What a match between these two! That is what fighting for a title is all about and I’m so glad Mysterio got the job done and won the title. I really felt like he deserved to win last night but since he didn’t this certainly was a nice constellation prize for him. Mysterio is a guy who is loved and can go put on a classic with anyone, he will elevate the title if he is given a proper run and be an awesome U.S. champion as he’s been before. Good for Rey and I’m glad he got that father-son moment, this was a special part of Raw tonight!
Backstage Segment: Kevin Owens
Charly introduces Owens. Owens asks if he can get the mic. He tells Rollins he heard every word he had to say earlier. He goes over what Rollins said and tells Rollins the biggest difference between them is that he has known who he is since he first laced up a pair of wrestling boots. He says he has never changed who is, he is Kevin Owens and he is perfectly fine with that. He tells Rollins he has always tried to change for what he thinks the company wants and what he wants. He tells Rollins he has turned into a whiny prick. He says the Stunner earlier was nothing and he has another one for him that is going to turn Monday Night Rollins into the Kevin Owens Show.

She sends her into the ring post and then throws Asuka back in the ring. Sane comes up to the apron and it allows Asuka to spray her with the mist. The cover and the 1 2 3.
Winner: Asuka
My Opinion:
A very highly contested back and forth match there. Asuka and Flair know each other so well and it showed with all the counters in that match. It was awesome to see how much they tested each other but Flair is learning now that Asuka has Sane this isn’t a battle she is going to be able to fight on her own. I can definitely see Flair finding herself a partner or ally and see them go after the tag titles. It could be a great rivalry if Flair can find someone and it would most certainly elevate the tag titles.
Match 8: Erick Rowan vs Kyle Roberts
Roberts goes to the outside and goes towards the cage that Rowan carries. Rowan takes him out and loses his mind. Rowan hits him with a big boot and then flings Roberts into the ring post. Rowan grabs Roberts and throws him into the ring. Rowan lifts Roberts and chokeslams him. He drops him again and covers, Rowan gets the 1 2 3.
Winner: Erick Rowan
My Opinion:
Another impressive and dominating win for Rowan tonight. He continues to carry that pet carrier and it makes you continue to wonder what exactly is in there. I hope again this with do something for Rowan and when it is revealed it makes sense and leads to something. Rowan pulls off the crazy guy character well but there is definitely a lot to be done with it going forward.

Rollins then hits Owens with a stomp and then one more for good measure as Raw goes off the air.
Winner: Kevin Owens: Via DQ
My Opinion:
I’m really digging this new Seth Rollins and the way he is trying to do what is best for Raw but at the same time making enemies out of everyone. I do like the idea of a team or alliance between Rollins and AOP. Arguably some of Rollins best work is when he is not doing what is popular and instead of going into business for himself. I think this also helps Owens so much because he can really be the hero in all of this. Things are certainly going to get interesting going forward and I can’t wait to see where all this leads with WrestleMania season right around the corner!
Final Thoughts:
I thought the night after Survivor Series we definitely would have seen a more electric show but it was a good Raw overall. I loved the Fatal Four-way we saw and then Rey Mysterio going on to win the U.S. title was an amazing moment. I was so happy for him and he deserved it after a night where he should have won the Universal title. I loved that AOP was back tonight, they dominated as expected and I can’t wait to see them back in the mix. Andrade picking up another big win was awesome as well, he is on a roll and it’s only a matter of time before he finally gets his big shot on the main roster. Asuka and Charlotte tore it down tonight as well, I think Asuka proved again everything she can do in that ring and I hope this rivalry picks up and continues once again. I think if Charlotte found the right partner the rivalry would really boost the tag titles. The main event was a great one with Rollins and Owens. They delivered as expected even though we didn’t get the clean finish. What we did get is this new Seth Rollins or just the Seth Rollins of old where he does as he sees fit. I think it’s best for him right now and like I said it help Owens as well feuding with him. Also, it would be very interesting to see Rollins with AOP because that group certainly could dominate! Overall it was a good night and things will heat up as we go into the new year and get closer to The Royal Rumble and The Road To WrestleMania!!!
Overall Rating: 7/10
