NJPW Best of Super Juniors Day 8 Review
This show looks pretty good with some matches I feel could make this an enjoyable watch. Let’s see if i’m right and dive right in.
Taichi vs Marty Scurll
When can Taichi be eliminated so I don’t have to watch his matches anymore? I was hoping Scurll could get something good out of him, and trust me he tried but he just couldn’t. Nothing really too memorable here except Taichi beating Scurll. At that moment the world didn’t care.
Match Rating: **1/2
Jushin “Thunder” Liger vs Ricochet
This was a great match to come back on. This clash between present and past was very good. I really liked the fact that Ricochet applying the Muta Lock knowing the history between Muta an Liger. All around very fun match with Ricochet picking up the win.
Match Rating: ***
TAKA Michinoku vs Hiromu Takahashi
This match was another good past vs present match up. I also really dug this match as it showed both men off well. Hiromu did his usual shtick and it worked even though TAKA is heel as well. TAKA transitioning into the crossface a lot really helped tell the story of an experienced vet doing what he needs to win. It really got me excited if we ever get a LIJ vs Suzuki-Gun feud because I think it could be great. Revisit this match on a bigger stage for people to enjoy. Hiromu takes this one which also means that TAKA is sadly eliminated from the tournament.
Match Rating: ***1/2
Dragon Lee vs Will Ospreay
Now this match, when I saw it was announced really peaked my interest. I had high expectations and it more than lived up to them. It started off with a usual exchange of flips. Ospreay also hit a springboard Shooting Star Press that I lost my mind over. A very high paced match that I very much enjoyed. Another match that will get hidden on these tiny house shows. Ospreay takes the win here and takes the lead of A Block which kinda bugged me as Dragon Lee is my pick to win the Block.
Match Rating: ****
This was a very watchable show. TAKA/Hiromu is good and I’d definitely say check it out. Lee/Ospreay is another great match that you need to watch if any from this show. As there are only 4 matches in this little group i’d say only skip Taichi/Scurll and you’ll enjoy yourself.
