Q&A with Chris Bey
What inspired you to become a wrestler?
“It’s funny because I was just telling Vickie Guerrero this story. I’ve always been into it. My true moment of “I HAVE to be a wrestler” occurred one summer when I was 8, my mom canceled our cable because of my brothers making a stupid decision and ordering dirty movies lol. The entire summer I had one DVD, the Eddie Guerrero, Cheating Death Stealing Life. I watched if every single day. So imagine I watched his touching story that was so real, and watched him win the WWE title from Lesnar in a HUGE underdog situation. It was the moment I knew I had to wrestle. It was so real. Real emotion. Real joy. I wanted that.”
What is your dream match?
“My dream match would be Chris Bey vs John Morrison. He’s in my top 3 favorites growing up, and his style would contrast perfectly to mine in my opinion at least.”
What is the ultimate goal for you, wrestling wise?
“Ultimate goal is to be able to succeed in anything thrown at me. If a company brings me in, I want for them to never want to let me go, I want to make people say “I only watch because of that guy””
Do you have any advice for people who want to become wrestlers?
“Do your research on the school you want to train at. Keep your ears open. Listen to everyone who’s done anything you want to do whether it’s wrestle one Indy match or main event Wrestlemania, but don’t take everyone’s advice. Learn how to pick what works for you and make it work. Don’t give up. This shit is hard. It will never be easy, you just can never doubt yourself.”
If you weren’t a wrestler what else would you want to do?
“I have other talents, music, videography, skateboarding, parkour you name it. But I said it when I was a kid and I say it now. I want to wrestle. Anything else is just bonus. If I weren’t a wrestler I’d want to be someone who can empower people”
