205 LIVE REVIEW 05/07/2019
Live from the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky
Before the show begins, it is announced by general manager Drake Maverick that the Cruiserweight Championship match between Tony Nese and Ariya Daivari will be held at Money in the Bank, just less than two weeks away. It is also announced that the main event of WWE’s hottest hour on television that the main event will be Akira Tozawa facing off against Mike Kanellis in a No-Disqualification Match.
Match #1 – Ariya Daivari vs. Noam Dar
The number one contender for the Cruiserweight Championship faces off against Noam Dar in a tune up fight just weeks before the Cruiserweight Title match at Money in the Bank. Before the match begins, Tony Nese appears to get a closer look at this match at commentary. The bell rings and both Dar and Daivari lock up. Dar applies the arm wrench but is quickly stopped by Daivari. He then takes control but only for a moment. Dar Irish whips Daivari and trips him in joking fashion. He then hits a dropkick, sending the number one contender to the outside. Ariya and Tony Nese have a confrontation at ringside. He then takes control of Noam Dar with an aggressive foot choke. He then Irish Whips Dar into the corner. Dissecting his opponent, Ariya attempts to hits superplex from the top rope. However, Noam Dar fights out of it. Daivari then locks in the Cobra Clutch submission, transitioning to a reverse DDT. Dar is sent to the outside. Nese and Daivari have another confrontation ringside. Dar is sent back to the ring. Dar attempts a rollup but is not successful. He then redeems himself with a huge uppercut and a huge elbow strike to the corner for another two count. He then goes for an ankle lock on Daivari, which is no good. Daivari goes for a Hammerlock Clothesline but it is reversed into another ankle lock by Noam Dar. He is then caught by a huge superkick, followed by a Frog Splash, and then finished off by a Hammerlock Lariat by Ariya Daivari for the win over the Scottish Supernova.
Result: Ariya Daivari via pinfall
My Thoughts:
NOAM DAR IS BACK BAYBEE!!!! I am so happy to see The Scottish Supernova back on 205 live. He really kicked into high gear in his return as he proved to the world why he has the capabilities to be in that championship conversation with Daivari and Nese. Speaking about Dinero, he proved to me and the entire 205 Live Universe why he is, indeed money. The dominance and even the confrontation with himself and Nese. You can feel the tension heading into Money in the Bank. However, in the end, Daivari Dinero got the victory, riding that wave of momentum towards the big title match.
Match #2: The Singh Brothers vs. Kevin Lee and David Kauffman
The match begins and Samir Singh dominates against one of the “local” competitors Kevin Lee. Sunil Singh is tagged in and both brothers hit a double suplex. He then hits two knife edge chops and a windmill dropkick. He then takes out who I assume is David Kauffman and hits Kevin Lee with a backbreaker/elbow drop combo for the win. Post-Match – Sunil Singh state that last week, they were screwed by The Lucha House Party. Samir states that they will challenge The House Party to a match.
Result: The Singh Brothers via squash match pinfall
My Thoughts:
I honestly do not or did not care for this match at all. If anything, The Singh Brothers just made another excuse to make the Lucha House Party even more irrelevant than what they already are. Nothing special here.
Match #3 (The Main Event): Mike Kanellis vs. Akira Tozawa
The match starts and Tozawa goes ham on Kanellis, sending him into the outside after a rain of strikes. Mike Kanellis fights back but it is not enough as Tozawa applies a Octopus Stretch. It is then reversed by Kanellis into a back body drop onto the steel ramp in the aisle walkway. Kanellis then turns his attention towards grabbing a table. He then scoop slams Tozawa onto the floor. He then sets two tables together at ringside. Both men enter the ring again. Suddenly, Tozawa hits a hurricanrana! As Tozawa attempts at a suicide drive, Kanellis catches him with a boot to the face. He then hits a brutal suplex after a unsuccessful two count. Kanellis sets up two chairs together. Tozawa is able to reverse Mike’s suplex and hits a suplex of his own onto the chairs. He then sends him onto the announce table. He then grabs a trash can and hits a suicide dive onto Mike Kanellis, which does not look like it connects. Mike is sent back into the ring and Tozawa hits a super dropkick, which is only good for two. Tozawa sets up for a German Suplex but Kanellis reverses. Kanellis hits the Death Valley Driver onto the trash can but somehow, Tozawa kicks out at two and a half. After multiple knife edge chops, Mike Kanellis hits a superkick, which is turned into a Slingshot German Suplex for only a two count. Tozawa slowly climbs up to the top rope but is met with Kanellis. Both stars are on the apron, fighting back and forth. Tozawa catches Mike and hits him with a Snap German Suplex onto the apron, which takes both men out. He then lays Kanellis onto the two tables but Mike rolls out. He then hits a huge superkick and lays Tozawa onto the two tables. Kanellis sets up but Tozawa meets him halfway. Kanellis sets up for a Samoan Driver on the top rope but Tozawa reverses it into a hurricanrana through the two tables. Tozawa hits Kanellis with the Senton Bomb onto the chair for the victory.
Result: Akira Tozawa via pinfall
My Thoughts:
Let me breakdown this main event right here because THIS, this was it right here chief! This No-Disqualification match killed it with establishing the message of using your resources to get the win. Take a look at the use of the two steel chairs used by Tozawa. Another example would be how awesome the last-minute hurricanrana was through the two tables, taking both men out cold. Mike Kanellis made the most out of his opportunities as he used everything in his will power to successfully weaken his opponent. There was even a point in the match where the crowd chanted, “this is awesome” and I agree! 205 Live does not disappoint when it comes to its match quality as the no disqualification match proved to be a must-see main event.
Final Thoughts:
Tonight was living, physical proof that 205 Live can kick ass every single week! Yes, it was only two matches and a couple of backstage segments, but amazing two matches. I always dug the style of less talking more fighting, but how awesome was it to see Mike Kanellis close the show and put on a classic with Tozawa? It was the most entertaining no-disqualification match in a long time as the use of those two tables and the trashcan were stuff that caught my eye immediately. Sure it was in defeat, but he proved to the world that he is the future of 205 Live and will carry this show on his back. Do not dare to sleep on 205 people! It is indeed the hottest hour on television.
