GLOW Episode 1 and 2 Review
Netflix Original Series – GLOW “Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling”
Hey guys it is Josh, here to review the new Netflix original series GLOW. I’ve never reviewed an actual TV show so this should be interesting.
EPISODE ONE REVIEW
WARNING: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS
Summary: The main character is a struggling young actress named Ruth who ends up at an audition for a new female wrestling TV show called GLOW, Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. Attempting to set herself apart from the pack and show off her acting ability, Ruth gets cut from the auditions. After being cut she watches tapes of Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, and other wrestlers from the 80s and goes back to the audition in full gear. She makes an unconvincing speech to try to get back in consideration when her friend Debbie shows up and freaks out on her for personal reasons. They end up fighting and the director sees this as a perfect opportunity to make both of them stars.
My Thoughts: I really enjoyed the first episode of GLOW. It was so cool to see real wrestlers that I like such as John Morrison and Awesome Kong play roles in the show and I definitely appreciate certain aspects of the show more because I am a wrestling fan, but I would still recommend it to non wrestling fans. I thought it was unique to see how quickly they began to show Ruth’s flaws as a human being and I’m interested to see how her character develops.
Rating: 8.5/10
EPISODE 2 REVIEW
WARNING: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS
Summary: On this episode the girls continued their training with Cherry being put in charge as the director went to try to convince Debbie to join the show. They started to do real wrestling things such as lockups and back bumps but things took a turn when one of the girls, who had previously gotten knocked out by Cherry, decided to fake a miscarriage with ketchup. The director ended up having them repeat the fake miscarriage and make it be Ruth’s fault, continuing with the idea that she is an evil homewrecker. Debbie and Ruth did not interact much but it became more clear how much Debbie really hates Ruth and how Sam plans to capitalize on that.
My Thoughts: This was not nearly as good as the first episode as even though there were plenty of enjoyable things the entire fake miscarriage thing was disgusting and just hurt my enjoyment of the episode. I understand they were trying to make Ruth look evil but the whole thing just made me uncomfortable. Other than that it was good but the pilot was much better.
