Lucha World Cup Preview
LUCHA WORLD CUP
Si, Si, Si! The Lucha World Cup returns.
After the successful initial Lucha World Cup in 2015, which drew 17K fans to the venue and was watched by millions at home around the globe, AAA owner Dorian Roldán announced last month that the event would make its return in June 2016. This year spanning over the course of two days, as now there would be more various and more international teams involved than on the previous edition, which by the way was won by the trio of Alberto El Patrón (Del Rio), Myzteziz (the original Sin Cara) & Rey Mysterio.
In the past couple of weeks all 36 names of the participating members of the trios teams for the “Lucha Libre Victoria World Cup 2016” tournament were announced by the hosting promotion, the nr.1 pro-wrestling company in Mexico, AAA (or Triple A) @luchalibreaaa.
FYI the term “luchalibre” is the Mexican equivalent of pro-wrestling.
The 2nd annual grandest international wrestling tournament in the world is set to take place on Friday 6/3/2016 9pm from Centro Expositor in Puebla (1st rounds) & Sunday 6/5/2016 4pm, with the finals being held at the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City.
The entire event will be made available to watch as iPPV ($19), for viewers worldwide via victoriaworldcup.com, luchalibreaaa.com and this link http://internetvluchalibreworldcup.tv/index.php
There is also talk that it will be available for VOD after the show, but that’s still in the works, as of this writing.
Contrary to last year, this year’s edition also features a women’s division with female stars from AAA, Pro Wrestling WAVE & OZ Academy (Japan), the USA & Canada, next to the men’s division featuring international stars from Pro Wrestling NOAH & Zero-1 (Japan), TNA & Lucha Underground (US), Mexico, Puerto Rico and Europe.
The tournament matches will all have a 15-minute time limit and a 5 -minute single wrestlers of choice sudden death match, if necessary. They are structured in quarterfinals, semi-finals, a final and a match for the third place.
The scheduled quarterfinal matches for the first night on June 3rd remain yet to be determined. It is expected however, that the opposing teams will be announced shortly, all wrestlers involved still don’t know who they’re facing this Friday as well.
Below are all of the announced wrestlers and teams for the Lucha Libre Victoria World Cup 2016, including some names that you may already know as well as possibly some unfamiliar ones, but each of them in their own right deserving to perform as they were invited by the 3rd biggest wrestling company in the world.
