NXT REVIEW 11/09/2016
NXT is split, half is in Full Sail University, while most of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic competitors are in Los Angeles, California. Charlie Caruso is at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, where she breaks down the semifinals, and then sends us to LA for our first match of the night.
#DIY VS. The Authors of Pain.
This is a great match, lasting about 12 minutes long. In my opinion, this is the first actual test for T.A.P. and they delivered! Paul Ellering is “Like a shark at ringside” (Corey Graves) and does a great job of interfering when the ref isn’t looking. There’s a great slam by Rezar who has Ciampa on his back for a Samoan Slam and catches Johnny Wrestling in mid-air and delivers a fall away slam simultaneously. Eventually The Revival come from under the ring and take out Gargano, while The Author’s of Pain hit The Last Chapter for the win.
WINNER: The Authors of Pain
OPINION: Great match! They are doing an excellent booking job for T.A.P. I think this was a win-win for both teams, because it puts #DIY in the title picture going into Toronto, and further develops a new and upcoming tag team. Personally, I would love to see these two teams go at it again soon.
MATCH RATING: 8.7/10
– Tye Dillinger talks about how Roode made his career by stabbing friends in the back and taking advantage of them, but he won’t get the chance to at Toronto because Dillinger will be kicking his ass all over the Perfect Ten City. Great promo
SAnitY VS. TM61.
Before the match begins, SAnitY hit TM61 from behind and starts going to town on them. Nick Miller is hurt somewhere at ringside for most of the match, while Shane Thorne gets worked on by SAnitY for most of this 9 minute match. This match was very one-sided, with SAnitY controlling the match until, Nick Miller hit a quick roll up to sneak out the winners.
WINNER: TM61
OPINION: This is another great booking strategy. Both teams sold that SAnitY is force to be reckoned with, and that TM61 stole one. Although SAnitY and T.A.P. would make for a great match, it would bury one of the new and upcoming teams. This way SAnitY looks strong, and will probably attack TM61 at some point in the future. However, the match was very dull until the surprise roll up victory at the end.
MATCH RATING: 4.8/10
TM61 VS. The Authors of Pain for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finals.
– Regal announces that The Revival will face #DIY in a two out of three falls match for the tag team titles at NXT TAKEOVER: Toronto!
– Bobby Roode says that Tye Dillinger is not a perfect ten but a perfect loser and that Roode will make Toronto……. GLORIOUS!
Rachel Evers vs. Ember Moon.
This is a 4 minute squash match. Evers gets a little bit more offence than most squash matches, but it isn’t fooling anyone. Ember Moon hits her beautiful stunner off the ropes for the win.
WINNER: Ember Moon
OPINION: I love everything about Ember Moon. Moon has a great gimmick and she is phenomenal in the ring. I can’t wait till she makes it to the main roster, i would love to see her and Sasha Banks or Charlotte Flair go at it.
MATCH RATING: 3.3/10
Next week Andrade “Cien” Almas VS. Cedric Alexander in a match set up after Almas attacked Alexander after their loss in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
Contract Signing:
Nakamura comes out first. Regal introduces him, and there are six security guards in the ring. Then Regal introduces Samoa Joe, Joe comes out with his music but then leaves and comes back with his own table and chair and says that he won’t come to the ring because he may have to put Shinsuke Nakamura down. Joe demands Regal to bring him the contract. Joe taunts him the whole time. When Regal comes back and gives Shinsuke the contract, Shinsuke Nakamura takes six security guards out and puts one through a table to end the show.
Final Thoughts: Great show to lead into NXT TAKEOVER: Toronto. Perhaps they weren’t some of the best matches, but I think it was key to advance the storyline and make everyone look strong. I believe SAnitY will interfere somehow in Toronto, probably costing TM61 the match, but will develop a storyline for both teams. I love the chemistry that Joe and Regal have, you can feel the tension between the two and Joe doesn’t hold back on the insults. This show did exactly what it needed to do which was get everyone excited for NXT TAKEOVER: Toronto.
