NXT REVIEW 11/23/2016
NXT Toronto
Hello there once again, This is Prescott Lewis with your weekly dose of NXT. This week we are still in Toronto from the fallout of NXT TAKEOVER: Toronto last Saturday. It was an amazing event, and this week we will get the reactions of how some of the superstars felt after the event, and we will of course see a little bit of action from the superstars of tomorrow! Let’s get started!
Rich Swann VS. Kona Reeves
If you haven’t heard of Kona Reeves, there is a reason why. He is formerly known as Noah Potjes or Noah Kekoa. This match looked like it would be a common squash match, but just as Swann was getting the upperhand, they were interrupted by SAnitY
Ended in a No Contest
SAnitY’s Destruction
SAnitY comes out and throws Swann out of the ring. Wolfe and Fulton hit their tag team finisher, the vertical suplex, on Kona. Then, Swann lands a crossbody drop on Fulton, but SAnitY goes right back at him and Eric hits his finisher, the modified neckbreaker he refers to as Youngblood. Then, Eric Young gives a promo about how they are no longer doing this anyone’s way other than their own. They are going to take what they want. The four of them stand tall, and as they leave, No Way Jose comes out to check on Swann and then challenges “The Puppet Master” to a fight. Eric Young goes in the ring alone, but as soon as No Way Jose gets the upperhand, the rest of Sanity jumps in and Eric Young for the second time hits Youngblood on another victim and the four stand tall, once again.
What to think?
I personally loved this segment. This is what I wanted to see out of SAnitY. They look like a group of psycho’s with nothing to lose and no restrictions on what sort of chaos they wish to unleash. I think this is what the Wyatt family should have been like in the WWE if they were booked appropriately, instead of losing repeatedly every time they were in a big match situation.
Recap: Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Tournament Finals- Takeover: Toronto
They showed a video package highlighting the best action from the finals (Except they left out when Rezar accidently threw the chain into the crowd). Afterwards they showed a backstage interview that was taken directly after the match. Paul Ellering says that the first two chapters are complete for the Authors of Pain, but the third chapter remains unseen.
Backstage Segment
Peyton Royce and Billie Kay are seen in the locker room with Daria. They ask her if she will be the third member for their team and she agrees to it. Then the three get interviewed and while Peyton and Billie Kay talk, Daria just looks annoyed with what they have to say.
Recap: Bobby Roode VS. Tye Dillinger- Takeover: Toronto
There is another video package highlighting their match. After the match there was another interview, this time with Dillinger. He says that it is disheartening to lose in his hometown in front of his family. He talks about how frustrated he is about always coming up short, but next time will be different because he’s still a perfect 10.
Recap: NXT Tag Team Title Match- Takeover: Toronto
Are you starting to get tired of these video highlight packages? So am I! However, NXT Takeover: Toronto was amazing, and this match may have stole the show. After the video package they show yet another interview after the match last week. Gargano and Ciampa have a bro moment where they talk about how much they love each other and how after fighting for twelve years, they are holding gold in NXT.
Recap: NXT Women’s Championship Match- Takeover: Toronto
Yes, creative must be taking a break because we have yet another video package, making this the third one in a row…. And it too, is followed with an interview after the match last week. Mickie James said she loved every minute of the match and wished that it wasn’t over. She is in tears, but she’s trying to hold it back. She admired Asuka’s ability, but lost a lot of respect for her when she wouldn’t shake her hand after the match.
Recap: NXT Championship Match- Takeover: Toronto
I know, I know. This is just torture at this point. Finally, we see a video package of the NXT championship match. I bet you can’t guess what happened next? Yep, another interview, but Nakamura was not in a talkative mood and brushed the reported by and got into his vehicle.
Next Week Samoa Joe Will Return
Next week Eric Young vs. No Way Jose
Main Event
Liv Morgan, Aliyah, and Ember Moon VS. Billie Kay, Peyton Royce, and Daria Berenato
This is an eight minute match but it feels more like a four minute match. Billie Kay and Peyton Royce show off a little bit of tag team chemistry and then they tag in Daria. Either Aliyah is amazing at selling moves, or Daria needs more training, because it looks like she wasn’t holding back on her moves. Daria tags Peyton in and Peyton starts to get worked on so Billie Kay makes Daria tag in and then Peyton Royce and Billie Kay start to exit, leaving Daria in the ring alone. She turns around and walks right into Ember Moon’s finisher, the stunner off the ropes.
What to think?
I think this match did a lot of damage to Daria’s character. Hopefully I’m wrong because I really like the idea behind her character, but she’s portrayed as a badass, however I wasn’t scared of her, if anything I pitied her performance in the ring and that she was left stranded all alone. I guess time will only tell if she finds a home in the squared circle, or goes back to her MMA roots.
NXT Championship Rematch in two weeks in Osaka, Japan
Samoa Joe VS. Shinsuke Nakamura
Final Thoughts:
This show started off with a bang. Rich Swann is one of the most hottest superstars and his intro alone gets you standing on your feet. Then you have SAnitY interrupt and beat up superstars and give a bone chilling promo about how they are going to take what they want. And then the whole show goes incredibly downhill. I mean there was only two matches on the whole card and they combined for a total of twelve minutes, maybe fifteen if you include their intros. Anyone who watches NXT has the WWE Network, which means there is a pretty solid chance that they saw NXT Takeover: Toronto, so I just don’t understand why we needed to see a forty minute highlight of the event. Pretty disappointed in the direction that the show went in, but I’m excited to see Eric Young and the rest of SAnitY in action next week.
Show Rating: 2.8/10
That’s all we have for you this week, and although it wasn’t the best, I have high hopes that next week will be a different story. Thanks for reading, we’ll see you back here next week!
