NXT REVIEW 11/30/2016
NXT – Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Hello everyone, my name is James Prescott Lewis and welcome back to The Wrestling Classic, the site for all your professional wrestling results, reviews, blogs, podcast and more! For this episode of NXT we’re back in Canada, and back to in ring action after last weeks abysmal episode of video packages! We’re still experiencing some fallout after NXT Takeover: Toronto but it will not disappoint! Let’s get to it!
Nicole Matthews VS. NXT Women’s Champion Asuka
This is a quick squash match for The Empress of Tomorrow, as she made fast work in three short minutes of Nicole Matthews. Asuka locked in her patent Asuka Lock for the submission victory.
What to think?
The women’s division in NXT is pretty baron right now, but it could be picking up soon. Ember Moon and Nikki Cross have yet to get a big singles push. There are others like Billie Kay, Peyton Royce, and Liv Morgan, but I think WWE is trying to build her as more of a female Brock Lesnar or Goldberg type of character. Could we see WWE bring in another surprise challenger like they did with Mickie James for Asuka?
This Saturday NXT title match in Osaka, Japan
Samoa Joe (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
(Will not air live on WWE Network at this time, but will air on NXT)
Interview with NXT Champion Samoa Joe
Joe says that he proved to everyone at NXT Takeover: Toronto that Nakamura isn’t on Joe’s level, so in Osaka, Japan, Joe will humiliate him in front of his home country.Tye Dillinger drops in and says that he wants a match with Joe tonight. Joe says that he doesn’t want to embarrass Dillinger again in his home country for a second time in two weeks, and ask that Dillinger give him one reason why he thinks they belong in the same ring together. Dillinger says that he could give him ten, but that he only needs one and slaps Joe straight across the face and leaves. Joe is enraged.
No Way Jose VS. Eric Young w/ SAnitY
This is a good match between both guys, they do a great heel vs. face match; every time No Way Jose gets the upper hand, SAnitY at ringside interferes to give Eric Young the edge. After about seven minutes, No Way Jose delivers a sickening pop up punch to the face and goes for the pinfall, Nikki Cross distracts the ref while Eric takes advantage and delivers Youngblood for the win.
What to think?
I love how SAnitY interfered and how Eric Young wrestled in the match. His offence was unique and matched his gimmick, with violent attacks to the neck area. After the match, Nikki Cross escaped the grasp of Fulton on Wolfe and ran down to the ring and hit a drop kick off the top ropes to No Way Jose. This group is awesome, and they are being booked properly. I’m very excited to see what the future has in store for them.
Next Week The NEW NXT Tag Team Champions Return: #DIY
Interview with Asuka
Asuka says nothing is different about her, but she wants more competition, however, there is none left for her in NXT.
Interview with Tye Dillinger
Dillinger says that he came to NXT to prove that he’s the best and if he can’t beat Samoa Joe tonight, then maybe he doesn’t belong in NXT anymore, but he vows to win and show everyone that he belongs here.
Samoa Joe vs Tye Dillinger
This is an almost twenty-minute long match. The whole time I thought that Nakamura or someone would come out and interfere but this was just one on one. There are a few points in the match where it looks like Dillinger might steal one, but every time he puts Joe on his heels, Joe brings the fight right back to him. Shoe delivers a powerbomb, that he turns into a Boston Crab, that turns into a Crossface submission, that finally turns into Coquina Clutch and Dillinger fades away to give Joe the victory by submission.
What to think?
Tye had an impressive match against Joe, this was a good pump up match for Joe going into his title defense. I’m not sure what they plan to do with Dillinger, at the end of the match it showed him very disappointed and the crowd cheering for him as he waved and exited. I feel like Dillinger is one hell of a superstar, so I hope that this involves a future angle with him in NXT or a main roster debut.
Final Thoughts:
This was a much improved episode of NXT from last week’s slate of awfulness. The interviews were quick but had purpose and the matches were back to being great, besides the early squash match. I really think moving forward that many of the superstars are going to be creative angles, such as SAnitY, Nakamura, Roode, Asuka, Dillinger and more. Also, Hideo Itami is expected to return sometime this month. That’s all we have for you this week, if we missed anything let us know, and we’ll see you back here next week!
