RAW REVIEW 04/13/2020
Tonight we build towards Money In The Bank as we will see three Qualifying Matches. These matches include Ruby Riott taking on Asuka, Kairi Sane taking on Nia Jax, and Sarah Logan taking on Shayna Baszler. Which of these three Superstars will win and qualify for the all-important Money In The Bank Match? Plus, we are set to appearances from Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch and the WWE Champion Drew McIntyre! What will Raw’s top champions have in store for us tonight?
Raw comes to us from the WWE Performance Center
Raw kicks off with us being welcomed by Tom Phillips. We then take a look back at the WWE Championship Match between Drew McIntyre and Brock Lesnar. Byron Saxton and Jerry “The King” Lawler then add in as Drew McIntyre makes his way to the ring.
In-Ring Segment: WWE Champion Drew McIntyre
McIntyre looks into the camera and says thank you, thank you for the privilege of allowing me into your living room. He says for the other WWE Superstars and him it is a privilege to continue to perform. He then thanks everyone for the support since he won the WWE Champion. He then says it’s surreal he beat “The Beast” Brock Lesnar within 5 minutes and then 20 minutes later this happened. We then see his impromptu match against The Big Show. McIntyre says nothing The Big Show does feels good. He then shows Big Show making a big mistake and falling to the Claymore Kick. McIntyre says he beat Brock Lesnar and The Big Show back to back and that sets the tone for what kind of champion he is going to be. He says for all the Superstars out there if you deserve an opportunity for the title you’ll get an opportunity for the title. Here comes Andrade and Zelina Vega.
Vega says let me stop you and introduce you to the real champion of Monday Night Raw, Andrade. McIntyre says and the crowd goes mild. Vega says she apologizes for interrupting his speech and pokes at McIntyre. Vega says they wanted to congratulate him in person because who gets two WrestleMania moments in one night? However, she then says that her business associate got robbed of his. Vega then tells Drew it’d be a shame if someone injured him and took the title off of him. McIntyre says he remembers the last time they faced and Andrade ribbed his bicep off the bone and left NXT Champion. He tells Andrade if he wants the match of United States Champion vs the WWE Champion he’s got it tonight. Andrade tells him last time he took his championship and took him out. He says tonight, no more senior nice guy. McIntyre insinuates they can fight now but Vega and Andrade walk away.
My Opinion:
I do believe McIntyre will be a fighting champion and there are a ton of great matches for him to have. He’s someone who can go out there and give you long drawn out masterpieces of matches and it is going to be exciting watching him work through the Raw roster. Tonight will be a big test for him as the last time we saw him face Andrade it didn’t go his way. For Andrade, this is a huge match and his time to make a statement. He has proven to be a staple of Raw and proven to be someone who can get the job done. A win tonight would put him in line for a WWE Championship Match!
Backstage Segment: Asuka & Kairi Sane
Kairi Sane talks up Asuka as she prepares for her Money In The Bank Qualifying Match against Ruby Riott, next!

After the match, Charly Caruso congratulates her on her victory. She tells Asuka as of late it seems we have gotten a more aggressive side of you, would you agree? Asuka yells and then says no one is ready for Asuka.
Winner: Asuka: Qualifies For MITB
My Opinion:
A great match between these two, it was tough to pick a winner throughout as they continued to trade holds and covers. Riott looked great as we haven’t seen her compete since Elimination Chamber. She definitely is still getting back in the mix but she can become a big player as soon as she gets more matches on Raw again. For Asuka, she continues to be up and down. Some nights she loses focus and other nights like tonight she dominates and is able to win tough wrestling matches. She is going to be one of the favorites heading into this match and if she wins she definitely seems like she would be able to pick a prime opportunity to challenge for the Raw Women’s Championship!
The VIP Lounge, Hosted By MVP:
MVP welcomes us and says he comes with breaking news for next week. He says that there will be three Money In The Bank qualifying matches. He then goes over how the winner of the Money In The Bank has 365 days to cash in for a championship opportunity. He then says we will see Rey Mysterio taking on Murphy, Aleister Black taking on Austin Theory and Apollo Crews taking on the greatest ladder match competitor MVP. He says to put your money on him because MVP is straight Ballin!
Match 2: Aleister Black vs Oney Lorcan

Black backs him off the ropes but Lorcan keeps the hold. Black takes him down and works a cover but can’t get the three. Black now works the arm of Lorcan and stays in control. Lorcan fights out and brings Black to the apron. He then drops him with a big uppercut. Black fights back and hits a moonsault he hits him with a big strike and sends him to the outside as Raw goes to break.
As Raw returns, the two continue to trade strikes. Lorcan cuts down Black and gets the upper hand. He tries a cover but Black kicks out. Lorcan now works full nelson bringing Black to a knee. He now looks for a moonsault but misses. Lorcan knocks him down and covers but Black kicks out. Lorcan hits him with more strikes and taunts Black. Black catches him and hits him with Black Mass. He covers and gets the 1 2 3.
After the match, Sarah Schreiber congratulates Black on his victory and says Oney Lorcan is a tough competitor. She then asks him for his game plan for Austin Theory next week. Black questions this and says gameplan? He finishes by saying my game plan is to win.
Winner: Aleister Black
My Opinion:
A very good contest between these two, Black again was tested but prevailed. Next week Black has a huge opportunity and seems like he is ready for it. He continues to impress each week putting on some of the best matches we see on Raw. He seems poised and ready for an opportunity at the WWE Championship and I think a rivalry with him and Drew McIntyre would be amazing. Austin Theory will bring a big fight next week but Aleister Black looks more locked in than ever winning tough matches in convincing fashion!
In-Ring Segment: Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch
Lynch says it’s only been a couple of weeks since she stood here last week. She then tells us about WrestleMania and how she beat Shayna Baszler. Lynch tells Baszler it was going to be a test of heart versus skill but actually it was a battle of the mind. The Man says a lot of things have been said about her lately and how the things she does is just to make you think the things she wants you to think. Becky then goes on saying that the closest one who can get to the queen is the joker and that is why she is the champion. She brings up the MITB ladder match and says she is here to challenge whoever wants this most. The champ says whoever unhooks the briefcase will find The Man waiting and she always has a plan. To cap it off, Becky says whoever wins and thinks they can beat her, she will shock the world one more time.
My Opinion:
Strong words from Lynch as always, the point is simple and that is she is ready for anybody. It has been proven now for the past year that Lynch can get the job done. therefore whoever cashes in will have to blindside her. Lynch is smart in trying to make it so whoever wins will come right after her but that might be unlikely. I’m very curious to see who will win this match but either way I’m sure Lynch will be ready if she sees it coming.
Backstage Segment: Andrade & Zelina Vega
Charly welcomes Andrade and Zelina Vega. Charly says Andrade tonight you face WWE Drew McIntyre who’s coming off one of the most impressive WrestleMania’s in recent history so does that call for concern? Vega cuts her off and tells her how to pronounce Andrade’s name. She then questions Charly for her question. Vega says cool he had one good night, she then reminds that the last time Drew was champion he was dethroned by Andrade. Andrade then tells how it took Drew a long time to become WWE Champion. He then says he wants the WWE Championship to have and to hold.
Backstage Segment: Shayna Baszler
Sarah asks Shayna if she has heard the derogatory remarks that Ronda Rousey has made? She then asks if she has any comments? Shayna stares at her and then walks away.
Match 3: Sarah Logan vs Shayna Baszler: MITB Qualifying Match
The two lock up and Baszler works a side headlock. Baszler then hits her with a forearm strike and gets a full mount on the mat. She continues to deliver strikes as she stays in control. The ref backs her up and Baszler complies. She then stomps on the arm of Sarah Logan crushing her arm and shoulder looking to cause a dislocation. The ref calls for the bells. Baszler gets out of the ring and goes to the back. Personal then come to look at Logan and get her out of the ring.
Winner: Shayna Baszler: Qualifies For MITB
My Opinion:
Baszler was all business tonight, Logan didn’t even have a chance as she was just pummeled out there. Baszler made her point and I don’t think anyone is safe now. Baszler is coming for Lynch and it seems like it’s only a matter of time before she takes the Raw Women’s Championship. Baszler is a different animal and everyone is about to find out how dangerous she is. I think Sarah Logan is just the tip of the destruction she is going to cause on her path to Becky Lynch.
Backstage Segment: Seth Rollins
Rollins says at WrestleMania he lost to Kevin Owens, he says that once again his career has been crucified.
Match 4: Akira Tozawa vs Austin Theory w/ Zelina Vega On Commentary
Theory lands a kick to the midsection and drops him to the mat. He continues the attack and keeps control. Tozawa comes back with kicks of his own. Theory goes to the corner and Tozawa capitalizes hitting him with big right hands. Theory fights him off and then connects with a stomp to the midsection. Theory keeps on the offensive not giving Tozawa an inch. He hits him with right hands and then goes to a chin lock. Tozawa continues to fight looking to get to the ropes. He finally gets his foot on the bottom rope. Theory stays on the offensive and heaves Tozawa into the corner. He covers but Tozawa is able to kick out. Tozawa looks to fight back but he is quickly knocked down. Theory continues the offensive and once again tries a cover but Tozawa stays in it. Theory then works a submission hold and puts pressure on Tozawa.
He continues to toy with Tozawa. Tozawa fights back but is dropped by a forearm. Theory hits a snap suplex and covers but Tozawa kicks out. Theory goes back to the chin lock. After the hold is broken he hits a backbreaker. He tries again to put the match away but Tozawa kicks out. Theory goes to fight back on the attack. Tozawa fights back and hits a hurricanranna sending him to the outside. He looks to fly to the outside but Theory moves. Tozawa then comes off the apron and hits him with a huge senton sending him into the barricade. Tozawa brings him in the ring. He hits him with a kick on the apron. He then comes off the top and drops Theory. He covers but Theory kicks out. Tozawa looks to grab him off the ropes but Theory hangs on. Tozawa is able to work the octopus. Theory takes back control and hits the ATL. He covers and gets the 1 2 3.
After the match, Garza and Andrade come in the ring to congratulate Theory. Garza and Theory then attack Tozawa and put him up in the corner. Andrade then hits him with the Hammer-Lock DDT.
Winner: Austin Theory
My Opinion:
A very impressive match for Theory in this one. For almost all of the match he dominated and even when he was down he quickly found ways to fight back. This was a big match for Theory as he was able to prove himself on his own. He is a part of what can be a very strong and dominant stable on Raw. Theory and Garza seem set up to be Raw Tag Team Champions in the future and Andrade seems like he will continue to dominate. The pairing of these three along with Zelina Vega can be something very special.
Backstage Segment: Rey Mysterio
Charly welcomes Rey Mysterio. She says Rey you have such a legendary career and accomplished so much but one thing as alluded you, the MITB contract. Mysterio says looking back at his career 2010 stands out to him because he won his second World Title and then Kane’s music hit and he took the title from him. He brings up his match for next week and says Murphy has a bright future but he doesn’t want it as bad as him. He then proclaims he is going to go on and win the Money In The Bank contract.
Backstage Segment: Seth Rollins
Rollins says everyone needs something to have faith in. He says I want you to know I am still here for you, your Messiah has truly risen.
Match 5: Angel Garza vs Tehuti Miles
Garza swipes the hand of Miles and backs him off. Miles uses his quickness to avoid Garza until Gara catches him in mid-air with a dropkick. Garza stays on him and lands a big kick to the chest. Garza takes off his pants and then lands a kick to the face of Miles. Garza then works a submission stretching the abdominal region and shoulder of Miles. Garza lets the hold go but stays on him with strikes. He gets him on the top turnbuckle and continues with the strikes. Miles falls but is hung up. This allows Garza to hit a big kick to the mid-section. Garza hits the Wing Clipper. He covers and gets the 1 2 3.
*** After the match, Zelina Vega brings out Theory and Andrade. Andrade and Theory go to the ring. Theory and Garza bring Miles to the corner and once again this sets up for Andrade to hit the Hammer-Lock DDT.
Winner: Angel Garza
My Opinion:
A super impressive victory for Garza, he didn’t even break a sweat in that one. He absolutely dominated and showed just how quick he can get it done in the ring. Garza has continued to shine since his debut on Raw and he is making himself into one of the top Superstars. I liked Andrade and Theory coming out here after the fact. This continues to build their loyalty to one another and show how they are going to run roughshod over Raw.
Backstage Segment: The Kabuki Warriors (Asuka & Kairi Sane)
Sarah welcomes The Kabuki Warriors. The two come in dancing and laughing. Sarah congratulates Asuka on her win tonight. Asuka says Ruby was not ready for Asuka. She then has Kairi her confidence level going into her match against Nia Jax. Kairi says, confidence? Asuka then says the same.
Backstage Segment: Drew McIntyre
Charly comes up to Drew and says she knows he is probably well aware of the comments made by Andrade and Zelina Vega. she then asks him if he has any comments. He shows a scar and says he looks at it a couple of times a week because Andrade took his title and took him out for 6 months. He says he promises he is going to hurt Andrade and Claymore him. He says if Andrade has to take 6 months off after then so be it.
Match 6: Kairi Sane vs Nia Jax: MITB Qualifying Match
Sane runs at Jax but she is caught and thrown. Sane gets up and gets around on Jax but Jax just throws her into the corner. Sane avoids her and Jax runs into the turnbuckle. Sane continues to try to beat on her. She jumps from the top but Jax ducks the attempt. Sane then taunts her. She continues to try to chop her down but Jax is pretty unfazed. She then throws Sane out of the ring with one arm. Asuka is then shown cheering for her in the back. Sane gets in the ring and again is slammed to the mat. Jax stays on her and just toys with her as she tosses her around the ring. Jax hits the Annihilator and gets the 1 2 3 on the cover.
Winners: Nia Jax: Qualifies For MITB
My Opinion:
At first, it looked like Kairi Sane could somehow stay in this one but that didn’t last long at all. She definitely would have benefited from Asuka being by her side but since she wasn’t there the outcome wasn’t shocking. Jax just dominated her. There was a chance for Sane and Jax could have ended that faster than she did. She is going to be a huge threat in the Money In The Bank Match but traditionally speaking the bigger competitors are not usually favored so we will see if she can rewrite history!
In-Ring Segment: Charlotte Flair
Charlotte says tonight is history with The Queen. She tells how she won The 2020 Women’s, Royal Rumble. She talks about the choice she had to make in picking her opponent. She tells how she has been there and one that with Becky and Bayley. She then says those two didn’t make a challenge but Rhea Ripley did. She says that was ballsy but now she stands as the 2-Time NXT Women’s Champion. She says she beat the next big thing. She says last year she was the next big thing which is why she was chosen by Vince McMahon to save WrestleMania. She says that there is always gonna be someone bigger and better. She says she will teach NXT humility and next up is Io Shirai. She tells that everyone bows down to The Queen, Woooooo.
My Opinion:
Strong words from Charlotte but nothing she said wasn’t true. There is no denying Charlotte is the best, she is one of the top Superstars, period. Her success is amazing, and she continues to rise to the occasion time and time again. At WrestleMania, it was no different and it was just another challenge she beat. I have no doubt she will run NXT and it is going to be tough for anyone to take the title off of her in the foreseeable future.
Match 7: Bobby Lashley w/ Lana vs No Way Jose
Lashley gets around on Jose but Jose is able to fight him off. Lashley keeps the pressure on and beats him down to the mat. Lashley throws him into the corner and beats him down. Lana yells at Lashley from the outside. Lashley comes to the floor and asks her to please shut the hell up. Lashley gets in the ring and stays in control. He launches Jose across the ring but then continues to talk to Lana. Jose tries to surprise him with a quick cover. Lashley kicks out. He then drives Jose to the mat before setting up for the spear. He connects and gets the 1 2 3.
Winner: Bobby Lashley
My Opinion:
Lashley dominated this match in a very impressive fashion given the size of Jose. Even though he gets the win and dominates that one, his struggles continue with Lana. I thought Lana by his side would be a big deal for him but Lashley still hasn’t been able to work his way to the top of Raw. I don’t know if getting rid of Lana will help him but Lashley needs to do something. He is too good to not be one of the top guys and I hope whatever he needs to do to get back to being The Almighty, he does.
Backstage Segment: Seth Rollins
Rollins says to all the nonbelievers you have left me no alternative, tonight I stomp out all doubt.
Match 8: The Viking Raiders (Erik & Ivar) vs Ricochet & Cedric Alexander
Ricochet brings the fight to Erik but it doesn’t last long as Erik is able to lay him out on the mat. Ivar comes in and Ricochet continues to try to battle back as Alexander does his part to keep Erik at bay. Ivar fights back and takes it to Alexander and Ricochet. Alexander is able to hit a DDT with the use of the ropes. He covers but Ivar kicks out. Alexander works a front face lock but Ivar continues to fight. Ricochet tags in and the two try a double team but Ivar runs through them. Erik comes in but he is stopped by a big forearm shot by Alexander. Alexander picks him up and drags him to the corner. Ricochet comes off the top and crashes down on Erik. Alexander tags in and hits him with a chop. He then hits Erik with a forearm and knocks him to the outside. Alexander flies to the outside but no one is home and he crashes to the floor. Ivar then comes in and throws Ricochet to the outside into Alexander. Ivar then flies, throws the ropes and takes out both men as Raw goes to break.
As Raw returns, Erik has Alexander on the mat as he works his arm. Alexander gets to his feet and tries to fight him off but can’t. Ivar comes in and continues the attack on Alexander. Ivar lands a snap mare and hits a diving right hand off the ropes. Erik tags in as Ivar drives his shoulder into the gut of Alexander. Erik then follows and does the same. Ivar tags in now and once again drives the shoulder into the gut. Ivar slams Alexander and Erik then slams Ivar onto Alexander. Erik covers but Alexander kicks out. Ivar hits him with a strike as he tagged back in. Alexander mounts a second of offense and works a cover but Ivar kicks out. Alexander hits a dropkick and then follows with the flat liner off the ropes. Erik gets the tag and so does Ricochet. Ricochet takes down Erik. he then takes it to Ivar as well. He takes down Erik with a step-up enziguri. He then hits Ivar in the corner before hitting Erik with a clothesline out of the corner. Ricochet then hits the standing shooting star. He covers but Erik kicks out. Erik comes back, taking down Alexander and then Ricochet with a knee. Ivar hits Ricochet with a clothesline. He then drives Alexander into the mat. Erik tags in and hits Alexander with double knees. Erik then lifts Ivar and drives him into Alexander in the corner. He covers but Alexander kicks out. Ivar comes in again but this time Alexander fights back. It only lasts for a second though as Alexander is taken out. Ivar covers but Ricochet breaks it up. Ricochet is taken out. Alexander is then slammed to the mat. Erik covers and gets the 1 2 3.
Winners: The Viking Raiders (Erik & Ivar)
My Opinion:
A very impressive return for The Viking Raiders but at the same time, it didn’t come easy. Ricochet and Cedric Alexander are proving to be one heck of a tag team. They put up a big fight considering the size difference between the two teams. At the end of the day they just couldn’t mount enough offense but nonetheless they were still impressive and they seem like they are gelling together well. For Erik and Ivar, I think now they can go get back in the tag title hunt but obviously there are some formidable teams on Raw and this Tag Division is looking awesome!
Backstage Segment: The Street Profits (Montez Ford &Angelo Dawkins) & Bianca Belair
Charly welcomes The Street Profits. Montez Ford thank you very much Charly but we did not come alone. He then introduces Bianca Belair. Charly then welcomes her to Raw. Charly then asks The Street Profits about Erik and Ivar wanting to take the titles off of them. They joke around about Vikings and clear the air on some misconceptions. Belair jumps in and reminds them they haven’t beaten The Viking Raiders and every time they step in the ring they get whooped. She tells them if they want to keep those titles they need to stop with the games and get that smoke.
Match 9: Drew McIntyre vs Andrade w/ Zelina Vega & Austin Theory & Angel Garza
McIntyre quickly drops Andrade as the match begins. McIntyre works him in the corner and continues to beat him up. McIntyre doesn’t allow him any space as he follows and keeps up the punishment. Andrade comes off the ropes in the corner but he gets caught and dropped. McIntyre then meets him on the outside and drops him ribs first onto the barricade. McIntyre hits him with a chop. He then follows with another one. He then talks with Theory and Garza as they walk towards him. Andrade takes advantage of the distraction and attacks McIntyre. He goes after the left arm of McIntyre and continues to work on it. In the ring, Andrade stays in control. He gets caught up in the ropes but he uses it to his advantage as he uses the ropes for leverage for an armbar. The hold is broken by the referee’s 5-count. McIntyre fights back and lands a boot. He flies from the top and takes down Andrade with a flying clothesline. McIntyre looks for the Future Shock DDT but Andrade fights it off. Andrade then hits the back elbow. McIntyre uses the ropes to stand. He then sends Andrade to the outside which in turn takes out Garza and Theory. McIntyre hits Theory before throwing Andrade back in the ring. Vega tries to get involved and it creates enough distraction for Andrade. Andrade looks for the Hammer-Lock DDT but McIntyre fights out. McIntyre hits the Alabama Slam. he then gets into the corner and loads up for the Claymore. He connects with the Claymore Kick and gets the 1 2 3 on the cover.
*** After the match, Garza hits McIntyre with a chop block as Seth Rollins has made his way to ramp. Rollins comes in and hits a superkick. He then hits McIntyre with the Stomp. He stares at the WWE Championship and then goes and hits McIntyre with a second Stomp as Raw goes off the air.
Winner: Drew McIntyre
My Opinion:
This was a good match to end the night and it really highlighted how dominant McIntyre can be. If you look at it Andrade didn’t get much offense besides when he had help. McIntyre controlled most of that and showed that he is on a different level right now. Andrade probably should have used his allies more and I’m sure if these two meet again he will. The big story is Seth Rollins is clearly coming for the WWE Championship. Of course, Rollins doesn’t look to have an opportunity to get into the MITB Match but it seems he will get a WWE Championship Match anyway. This won’t sit well with McIntyre and of course he will fight Rollins. I’m ready for this rivalry!!!
Final Thoughts:
This was a good night of action as we had a lot of matches and the show really flowed well. I really like the first three participants for the Women’s MITB Match. All three bring something different to the table and you could call Asuka, Baszler, or Jx a favorite to win right now. I can’t wait to see how the SmackDown side plays out because this is shaping up to be an explosive match! On the same note, I’m excited for the men’s qualifying matches next week. We have some unique match-ups and they should be very competitive next week! I was happy to see The Viking Raiders return tonight. They had a tough task against Ricochet and Cedric Alexander as these teams battled. I’m super excited for the Raw Tag Team Division going forward, as I said it looks stronger than it has in a long time. Finally I love this team of Garza, Theory, Andrade, and Vega. They work very well together and besides for Andrade’s loss this Raw belonged to them. We had two impressive victories coming for Garza and Theory with statements made after. Of course, Andrade didn’t get the job done against Drew Mcintyre but Garza did give them the last laugh with the chop block. I’m very excited to see what happens with this new group! As I said Drew MvIntyre gets the win in a very impressive match to end the night. His night didn’t end well though as we saw Seth Rollins attacking him. I hope McIntyre will want to fight him because this would be a great rivalry. Overall it was a great show and Raw continues to do very well given the unfortunate circumstances. I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the week in the WWE, stays safe and healthy!
Overall Rating: 8/10
