RAW REVIEW 07/20/2020
Tonight is the Fall-Out Edition of Monday Night Raw following last night’s Extreme Rules PPV! After weeks of back and forth, the time for talking is over as Randy Orton meets Big Show in an Unsanctioned Match! With the Legend Killer strike again or will Big Show be able to stop Orton in his tracks? Plus, after Apollo Crews was unable to compete last night MVP declared himself United States Champion, will this decision stand? On that same note, is Sasha Banks the real Raw Women’s Champion after Bayley helped her to “victory” last night? Next, what will be Seth Rollins next move as he tries to reshape Raw in his image? Finally, who will be the next to step up to the WWE Champion Drew McIntyre after he once again successfully defended the title?
Raw comes to us from the WWE Performance Center.
Raw kicks off with us being introduced by Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton, and Samoa Joe.
In-Ring Segment: Seth Rollins & Murphy
Rollins tells that at Extreme Rules last night Rey Mysterio’s eye came out of its socket. Rollins says going into the match he understood what the match entitled and how you win the match but what happened last night will stay with him for the rest of his life. Rollins says the image of Rey Mysterio holding his own bloody eye will stay in his memories forever. He says it was more than he expected and it made him sick to his stomach, figuratively and literally. Rollins then says he has been asked if he regrets last night. He then asks the WWE Universe if they regret what they have done to him. He says they made him the Monday Night Messiah and they made him become this person they refer to as a monster. Rollins then says remember who asked for this stipulation. Rollins states that actions have consequences. He tells that what happened to Rey Mysterio was ugly and unfortunate but we cannot dwell in the past. He says the beauty in all of this is that Rey Mysterio is out of sight and Monday Night Raw is free to fulfill its potential, the greater good can happen and will happen and there is no one left to stand in the way of the greater good. Here comes Aleister Black.
Black says all of this is on Rollins’ hand. Black says but right now he is here to rectify all of this. Murphy goes after Black but he is met with a kick. Black comes in the ring and he is then pulled out by Murphy. Black goes after Murphy attacking him at ringside. Black sends Murphy over the announcer’s table and makes his way into the ring. Rollins retreats as Raw goes to break.
My Opinion:
I still really like where this is going with Rollins as this has kept a lot of people involved and it’s allowed Rollins to have a ton of great matches and tap back into the evil side that he has. I still hope there is a greater picture of all of this and I think in time we will see that. The best part of all is as I’ve said we are getting a lot of high-quality matches out of this. The story is vague at times but with the talent involved, I can’t help but be excited for what is next. It’s amazing how long the Monday Night Messiah has lasted but right now it seems like no one will stop Rollins as he always finds a way to come out on top.

Black keeps on Rollins and drives him into the ring post. Rollins now avoids Black and then sends him into the announcer’s table. Back in the ring, Rollins hits the sling blade. Rollins hammers on Black but Black keeps fighting back. Rollins keeps up the strikes and then uses the ropes to stretch the right arm of Black. Black fights out of the corner now.

Rollins now gets Black against the ring post with his arm wrapped around it. Rollins then crushes the arm of Black on the ring post. He continues the attack on the arm as Black screams in pain. They then bring Black to the announcer’s table and slam his arm on it over and over and over. Murphy continues the beat down. Murphy now holds him as Rollins steps on Black’s hand. Rollins then stomps down on the arm of Black. Black once again screams in pain after the assault on his arm.
Winner: Seth Rollins
My Opinion:
A great match between these two and this is exactly what I have loved through Rollins being the Monday Night Messiah. He has been able to lock up with great wrestlers and shine every week. Rollins’ actions have been hard to watch at times as he continues to take out all of those standing in his ways. There is no telling how far Rollins will go but it is amazing how much chaos Rollins and Murphy have been able to cause together. They have to be one of the more dominant duos we have seen in a long time.
Backstage Segment: MVP & Bobby Lashley & Ron Simmons
Ron Simmons tells MVP and Bobby Lashley to think about what he told them and that there is a better way. MVP then calls over R-Truth. Truth comes up holding a frying pan. Truth tells MVP he has a nice replica and that Apollo is the real champion. MVP tells him they are heading to the ring and they want him to join them. Truth then says he doesn’t want to be put in the Nelson from the Simpsons again. He tells Lashley that move hurts. Lashley says it is the full nelson. He then says new champ. A ref comes up and Truth is hit with a big kick from Shelton Benjamin. Benjamin covers and gets the 1 2 3. He is now the new 24/7 Champion. The three then make their way to the ring.
***(Shelton Benjamin New 24/7 Champion)
In-Ring Segment: MVP & Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin
MVP tells how last night he emerged as the new United States Champion without even breaking a sweat. He then tells how a few weeks ago Bobby Lashley rag-dolled Apollo Crews so badly that Crews decided to stay home. MVP tells how his victory was a foregone conclusion anyway so it wouldn’t have mattered if Crews showed up. He then says after they get done beating up dumb and dumber, Ricochet and Cedric Alexander, they are going to hop in the whip and celebrate. Ricochet and Cedric now make their way to the ring.
Cedric and Ricochet call MVP out for his words. They tell MVP how he isn’t relevant anymore. They then declare that they will be champions again without the help of MVP. MVP fires back at them and tells them to pick any two of them they want. Cedric and Ricochet tell that they have a partner and it’s someone making their return to Raw. They then bring out Mustafa Ali. Cedric, Ricochet, and Ali hit the ring and together they are able to send MVP, Shelton, and Lashley retreating as Raw goes to break.
My Opinion:
I absolutely love what MVP has been doing on Raw. He is very entertaining and he kills it on the mic every week. Most of the time he doesn’t even have to get physical and he still is one of the most memorable parts of Raw. I think whether with or again he is bringing everyone up that is working with him as of late. It’s really nice to see guys like Ricochet, Cedric, and Ali getting this opportunity as they finally have a chance to shine again.
Match 2: MVP & Shelton Benjamin & Bobby Lashley vs Mustafa Ali & Ricochet & Cedric Alexander
As Raw returns, Lashley starts off with Ricochet. Ricochet fires away on Lashley. Lashley fights it off. In now is Cedric Alexander. Lashley takes control of Alexander early as he runs him over. One more cover, and one more kick out. MVP stays on the offensive. He keeps Alexander on the mat but he still can’t put him away. Benjamin tags back in and he continues to beat on Alexander. He works on his back before taking him down in the middle of the ring.
He covers but still Alexander stays in this one. Benjamin brings Alexander to his feet. He then drives him into the corner. Lashley tags in and dominates Alexander. MVP now takes a cheap shot on Ricochet as the ref deals with Lashley. Lashley continues the devastating strikes in the corner.

Benjamin now takes out Alexander. Ricochet now takes out Benjamin. MVP now takes it to Ali in the ring. MVP misses with the boot. Ali now hits him with a neck breaker. Ali now goes up top and hits the 450. He covers and gets the 1 2 3.
Winners: Mustafa Ali & Ricochet & Cedric Alexander
My Opinion:
What a return for Ali and what a win for his team. These three have so much untapped potential and I’m glad they are in a role where they can finally get back to showing what they can do in the ring. Although I think this victory will be short-lived as it will not settle well with MVP and his Hurt Business. MVP seems hell-bent on making sure anyone who has turned him down knows that they made a big mistake in doing so. The only bad thing for MVP is that now when Apollo Crews returns MVP’s group will be at a disadvantage. I can’t wait to see where this goes as I love everyone involved!
Backstage Segment: Randy Orton
Orton asks do you ever think to yourself about those moments back in time that may have changed your life? Orton says he does. He says those moments people might think of are when he joined Evolution or had that match with Mick Foley at Backlash or when he became the youngest World Champion. He says those are not the moments he is referring to as though they helped make the Legend Killer. He says the moment he is referring to is 175 days ago when he slammed the steel chair down on Edge’s neck. He then tells how at one point in time Edge, Christian, and Big Show helped save him from himself. Orton says it felt good to stand over a convulsing body of a man who paved the way for so many. He said it felt good to stand over that same man at Backlash knowing he ended his career. He then says it felt good standing over Christian knowing he took away his chance at one last match and tonight it will feel good to stand over Big Show after he kicks him in the skull.
Backstage Segment: Ron Simmons & The Viking Raiders (Erik & Ivar)
We are shown Ron Simmons and the Viking Raiders talking with each other backstage.
*** We then see a look back at the career and dominance of Big Show!
Christian Interview:
Samoa Joe brings up Chirstian’s unsanctioned match with Randy Orton. He then goes over the vent before asking him how he’s been since that night. Christain says he knew what he was getting into that night. He says Ric Flair using their friendship against him was something he will never forget. He says he will never look at Flair or Orton the same again. Joe then asks if he can expand on his health. He then asks Christian if he thinks Big Show is walking into a trap. Christian says he doesn’t feel good, not at all. He says he would endure it all one more time if it guaranteed Randy Orton got what was coming to him. He then says Big Show has a lot of people in his corner and he is ready for those traps. He then says he can’t wait to watch the big show knock Randy Orton’s ass out cold.
Backstage Segment: Bianca Belair & Peyton Royce & Ruby Riott
Sara asks Bianca what the WWE Universe can expect from here going forward. Belair says she will be the fastest rising in this division. She says last week she wanted to show up and put that team in their place. Peyton Royce now comes up here. Royce tells her she shouldn’t have stuck her nose where it didn’t belong. Royce goes up top but has to roll through as Riott moves out of the way. Riott hits the Riott kick. She covers and gets the 1 2 3.
Winner: Ruby Riott
My Opinion:
A big and much-needed win for Ruby Riott tonight. Although last week she was a part of the winning team, this week she gets the win on her own. I think her confidence was lacking but now she has to be getting it back. This is really good to see because Ruby does have a lot to offer. A few more wins over the next month and she could be back to the Ruby Riott we once knew. It’ll always be interesting to see if Liv Morgan will emerge and join Riott once again as that is when both found their most success.
Backstage Segment: Zelina Vega & Andrade & Angel Garza
Vega tells Garza and Andrade they deserve this tonight. Charly comes up and asks them how they get on the same page now that they have a match with the Raw Tag Team Champions, next. Vega steps in and says they have been on the same page. She then says the Street Profits have been in hiding since her client’s dominance. She then says they may even win by count-out. Andrade says they will then be one step closer to being Raw Tag Team Champions. Garza then says he is always ready for the challenge. The Street Profits come up from behind and attack Garza and Andrade. As the Street Profits walk away Vega tells Garza and Andrade that they won’t get away with this.
Match 4: The Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) vs Angel Garza & Andrade w/ Zelina Vega:
Non-Title Match
As the match begins Andrade and Garza attack Dawkins and Ford. Andrade works Ford on the floor as Garza takes it to Dawkins in the ring. Andrade now tags in and continues the beat down on Dawkins. Garza tags in again and lands another stiff kick to Dawkins. Garza now works a submission and keeps Dawkins on the mat. Dawkins hits Garza but Garza fires back with a shot of his own. Both men make a tag. Ford comes in hot and takes it to Andrade. Ford now flies over the top ropes and takes out Andrade on the floor as Raw goes to break.
As Raw returns, Ford works the arm of Andrade. Andrade fights out but Dawkins tags in and takes down Andrade. He covers him but Andrade kicks out. Dawkins now continues the attack on the arm of Andrade. Ford tags back in and hits Andrade with a big dropkick. Ford now works a submission. Andrade fights out and tags Garza. Garza takes it to Ford and wears him down before tagging in Andrade. Andrade stays on Ford and keeps working the arm of Ford. Garza tags in and hits Ford with big right hands to the midsection. Andrade is back in now and keeps working on the left arm of Ford. This time he really puts the pressure on the shoulder of Ford. Ford finally fights out. He looks for a tag but Andrade slows him up. Ford lands a kick to the face. He then flies through the air and tags Dawkins. Dawkins hits a suplex and a big splash. He tries a cover but Garza breaks it up. Ford goes up top but Andrade fights off Dawkins sending him into the ropes knocking down Ford. The Street Profits fight back and get Garza down after he tags in. Ford flies off the top and hits the frog splash. He covers and gets the 1 2 3.
Winners: The Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins)
My Opinion:
Glad to see the Street Profits back in the ring getting this big win. As the Raw Tag Team Champions, they really don’t disappoint. Every time they are out there they get the job done and show that they actually are a very dominant team. I really hope for their sake the teams on Raw will get elevated around them because I’m ready to see Ford and Dawkins have some classics in the ring again as they did in NXT!
Backstage Segment: Zelina Vega & Andrade & Angel Garza
Vega asks Andrade and Garza what the hell happened out there. She tells them they blew it again and now she has to fix this problem again. Garza and Andrade then both agree that they are on the same page. Vega tells them to prove it.
In-Ring Segment:
Bayley tells everyone to show some respect for the new Raw Women’s Champion. Banks says she knows a lot of people are talking about her and accusing her of stealing this championship. She tells how this title was handed to Asuka, to begin with, but everyone forgets this. Banks says everyone forgets that last night Asuka used the green mist and sprayed it in the ref’s face. She says that Bayley stepped in because someone had to officiate the match. Bayley says she had to do the right thing because she isn’t just Bayley doing straps, she is the role model. Banks says she is the boss, the standard, the blueprint, and now 2 belts Banks. Here comes Asuka and Kairi Sane.
Asuka tells Banks that is her title. Banks then tells her to come and get it. They come down to the ring but stop as Stephanie McMahon comes on the screen. Stephanie congratulates Banks and Bayley on being the Tag Team Champions. She then congratulates Bayley on being the SmackDown Women’s Champion. She then says as for the Raw Women’s Championship neither woman won that match last night so next week Asuka and Sasha will face off again for the Raw Women’s Championship. Stephanie then reminds Banks that she can lose by pinfall, submission, count-out, disqualification, or if Bayley gets involved.
My Opinion:
I love this announcement from Stephanie, as Asuka and Banks tore it up last night and I know they will do the same next week! The Women of WWE have been stepping up big lately and have been putting on some amazing matches. These titles are elevated to a high level now and I really hope this match gets a lot of time next week because we could see a classic Raw match in the making!
Match 5: Bayley w/ Sasha Banks vs Kairi Sane w/ Asuka
Sane goes right after Bayley and hits her with big shots to the body. Sane then hits her with big chops to the chest. Sane hits a knee. She tries a cover but Bayley kicks out. Bayley stomps on her foot and is able to take Sane to the mat. Bayley lifts her up. Sane fights back and sends Bayley to the floor. Sane hits the rearview now and again sends Bayley to the floor. Sane now brings Bayley back into the ring. She covers but again Bayley kicks out. Bayley fights back and gets Sane in the corner. She then stomps on her. Bayley hammers on her back. Then throws her back into the corner. Bayley drives her shoulder into the midsection. She covers but Sane kicks out. Bayley now works the neck of Sane. Sane fights out and lands a crossbody into the cover.
Bayley kicks out. Bayley fights back and once again puts down Sane. She covers but still can’t put her away. Bayley with the forearm to the face tries another cover but Sane stays in this. Sane is brought to her feet. Bayley looks for a suplex but Sane works an inside cradle. Bayley kicks out. Bayley stays with it and now works a suplex. Sane fights back but Bayley stops her in her tracks. Sane looks for a suplex now but Bayley hangs on. Sane lands a huge ax kick now and hangs Bayley up on the ropes. Sane then comes off the top and hits the stomp to the back. Sane looks for the cover but Banks pulls Bayley out of the ring as Raw goes to break.
As Raw returns, Sane gets Bayley in the corner. Bayley fights back and plants Bayley. She covers but Sane kicks out. Bayley now uses the ropes to choke Sane. Bayley now torques the arm of Sane. Sane fights back but again Bayley grabs the arm.
( In the back Charly asks Shayna Baszler if she has a vested interest in this match. Baszler says she has beaten everyone and doesn’t have a match tonight. She asks what she’s supposed to do and says she has a vested interest the same way a shark does when it sees prey.)
Back to the match, Sane, it’s a blockbuster and then a dropkick. Sane gets Bayley in the corner and hits the sliding d in the corner. Sane goes up top but Bayley slows her up. Bayley knocks her down after a shot to the right arm with an assist from the top rope. Bayley now wrenches on the arm of Sane from the top. Sane then takes out the footing of Bayley. Bayley gets hung up and this allows Sane to hit the double stomp. Sane misses in the corner but she hits the spinning back fist and follows up with the interceptor. Sane now hits the Insane Elbow. Sane covers now but Bayley gets her foot on the rope. Bayley catches Sane with the knee and follows with the suplex. Bayley goes up top and hits an elbow drop of her own. Bayley covers but again Sane kicks out. Bayley now looks for the Bayley to Belly but Sane counters into a cover. Sane gets the 1 2 3!
Winner: Kairi Sane
My Opinion:
Wow, what a match between these two! That was awesome and a great win for Sane. Sane has been trying to prove herself on Raw for a long time now and tonight she did just that. She showed exactly the kind of wrestler she is and through all the pain she was put through she found a way to win. Bayley is not going to be happy about this but it has to be a wake-up call since she has been very overconfident as of late. I think this win is also good for Asuka as it has to put her in a good mindset ahead of her title defense next week!
Backstage Segment: Drew McIntyre
Sara asks Drew what kind of condition he is in after his brutal match last night. He says he’d be a liar if he said he felt good. He says he feels like he fell down a flight of stairs but he is still WWE Champion. He then says he is going to address the future of the WWE Champion right now. He then heads to the ring as Raw goes to break.
In-Ring Segment: Drew McIntyre
Drew says he has to hand it to Dolph. He says the stipulation was brilliant and it swayed the match in Dolph’s favor and he took advantage of it. He says Dolph almost had him but almost doing things is the story of Dolph Ziggler’s career. Drew then says onwards and upwards because the next show is SummerSlam and it is the biggest show since WrestleMania where he beat Brock Lesnar and he wants a worthy opponent. Here comes Dolph Ziggler.
Ziggler tells Drew he saw doubt in his eyes. Drew asks him what he is doing out here. Dolph says he saw that doubt last night. He says now one talks about what he deserves after 19 years. Drew tells Dolph the answer is no. Dolph tells him he has been this close his entire life. Drew tells Dolph he is embarrassing himself. He then says he is going to save him the embarrassment and leave. He then takes down Dolph and tells him again the answer is no. Dolph says don’t you walk away from me you son of a bitch. He tells Drew he deserves a match, he says anytime, anyplace, any stipulation. Drew says he has changed his mind, he says he picks the stipulation so he accepts. Dolph then asks him what the stipulation is. Drew says he will tell him the stipulation right before the bell rings.
My Opinion:
This next match between these two should be interesting since McIntyre is picking the stipulation but it would seem that this should be an easy one for him to win. Ziggler is deserving of much more than what he has gotten but it just doesn’t seem like right now is his time to shine. McIntyre is way too dominant and locked in as champion and I can’t see him losing any time soon.
Backstage Segment: Big Show
Big Show says in a few minutes he will be standing across from Randy Orton with Ric Flair by his side. He says Randy Orton has had a hell of a year so far. He tells of Orton injuring Edge and taking away Christian’s hope for one more match. He says he knows he is on Randy’s list. He says he would be foolish not to realize the jeopardy his health and career are in. He says he hoped and prayed the Legend Killer wouldn’t show his face again but the voices must have gotten too loud.
Big Show talks about how he and Randy would ride and tag together. He says they bonded a lot about how they were presented in this business. He says those talks about trying to change your stripes bonded them and they became friends because they both knew what the other was dealing with. He says that has changed now since Randy has brought back the Legend Killer. He says he has asked himself for the past week if this is the end of the line for him. He says a tiger though is most dangerous when it senses the end and it will do anything to survive. He says he will do anything and everything to make sure Randy Orton doesn’t write the end of his story.
Match 6: The Big Show vs Randy Orton:
Unsanctioned Match
Show backs Orton in the corner. Orton works his way out. Orton hits him in the midsection but Show catches him. Show wraps up the arm of Orton and pounds on it. Orton takes over with a dropkick to the knee. Orton now looks for the Punt but Show grabs him and hits a chokeslam. He covers but Orton kicks out. Show now looks for the KO Punch but Orton ducks out of the ring. Show now sets up the table in the ring. He then grabs Orton and launches him back into the ring. Show puts Orton on the table and goes up to the second turnbuckle. He jumps but crashes through the table as Orton rolls out of the way. Orton measures Big Show and hits him with an RKO. *** After the match, Orton hits Big Show with the Punt. Orton tells Big Show he told him just like all the other’s, one more legend down.
Winner: Randy Orton
My Opinion:
A very solid hard-hitting match to end the night but Randy Orton did exactly as he said he would. If Big Show isn’t enough to stop Orton then it begs the question who can stop Orton. I wonder now if Orton will be looking for bigger things like the WWE Championship. We really could be seeing a full revival of the Randy Orton of old. The Legend Killer doesn’t seem like he is going anywhere anytime soon and anyone who stands in his way is in danger of being taken out.
Final Thoughts:
Tonight was a good episode following the PPV last night and I would imagine things are going to get more exciting over the next month with Summer Slam coming in the middle of next month! I liked the opening to the show tonight along with the match that followed. Although this story with Seth Rollins is slow-moving, I love the matches that have come out of it and it always leaves me wondering what is coming next which is refreshing given how many things get spoiled nowadays. Another part of this show I love is MVP. Every week he is so entertaining and I love everything he is doing. Everyone around him is getting elevated to a higher level and that six-man tag match really delivered tonight the way it was supposed to. I can’t wait to see what’s next for MVP and the Hurt Business!
Next, I loved the match between Kairi Sane and Bayley! I thought they killed it and had the match of the night. It was exciting to see Kairi get the huge win and I hope she can build on that. I also can’t wait for Asuka taking on Sasha next week in what will be another classic between the two! Finally, the main event was a great one with Orton and Big Show. It delivered on the being hard-hitting like it promised to be. It was no surprise Orton was able to do as he said he would but now I really wonder what he will do next. If no one can stop him there is no telling who or what Orton will go after next! Overall it was a good night and we saw a lot of big wins from superstars who hopefully build on that momentum. I hope everyone stays safe and healthy this week and enjoys NXT and SmackDown!
Overall Rating: 6/10
