RAW REVIEW 09/16/2019
Tonight of the Clash Of Championships Fall-Out Edition of Mondy Night Raw there’s a big fight feel in the air tonight as we see Baron Corbin and Chad Gable compete to be crowned King Of The Ring! Plus, Seth Rollins may have defeated Braun Strowman and retained his Universal Championship but now he has a bigger challenge ahead after being attacked by “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt. What will be The Fiend’s next move and how will Rollins handle this? Also, Becky Lynch retained her title after being disqualified but she claims not to be done with Sasha Banks, so what will be next in their epic rivalry? Finally, after a crushing loss in his United States Championship match will Cedric Alexander be able to get another shot at the title and more importantly get revenge on The O.C.?
Raw comes to us from the Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Raw kicks off with us being welcomed by Michael Cole, Renee Young, and Corey Graves.
In-Ring Segment: Seth Rollins
Rollins tells that last night was a hell of a night but we have a lot to unpack. He tells how he and Strowman lost the tag titles and says he isn’t happy but there’s no one to blame and as a team, they lost the titles. He then says, later on, they faced each other with the Universal title on the line. He tells that Strowman gave him the fight of his life but when push came to shove he put him down with a Stomp, it didn’t keep him down so he gave him another and another and then a pedigree and one more final Stomp. He says he is happy that the rematch is not happening soon. He says when he went up the ramp he didn’t even have time to celebrate before he was cloaked in darkness and taken down but what he can describe as… he pays the crowd and says Yowie Wowie indeed. He tells that the last thing he saw before losing consciousness was The Fiend. He tells when the lights came on Bray Wyatt was gone but in 3 weeks he gets to go one on one with The Fiend inside Hell In A Cell! Wyatt’s Firefly Fun House then comes on the screen.
Wyatt says oh my lucky stars it’s my future best friend Universal Champion Seth Rollins. He says he is glad Rollins is here and glad he is okay. Rollins calls him a sick dude. Rambling rabbit tells him to run. Wyatt tells him that mistakes happen and Rollins should know but people forgive. Wyatt says friends forgive but he never forgets and maybe that’s why he said hello. He says he might even have more to say to you tonight. Wyatt stares and then laughs and tells him, see you in hell.
My Opinion:
Wow, what an announcement! This was something we saw coming but I’m glad it’s official it is happening! No doubt The Fiend will be the biggest challenge Rollins has ever had and stepping inside Hell In A Cell with The Fiend doesn’t sound like a good idea for Rollins. This is going to be an incredible showdown between these two and honestly, it seems right now The Fiend is the favorite to win. The Fiend is the hottest thing going today so it makes total sense why he is getting the shot but now he is going to be the one everyone cheers for so this is going to be an even bigger battle for Rollins. I think there is going to be a lot of pressure that The Fiend needs to win this one, it would definitely shake things up and there is a ton they could do with Wyatt as champion. This also could be a great way to finally get Finn Balor the Universal title back as he could reemerge as The Demon to face The Fiend.
Backstage Segment: Braun Strowman
Charly tells Braun she was under the impression he wasn’t going to be here tonight. She says she is curious about what he is doing here. He tells that he is here because the next guy who steps foot in that ring is going to Get These Hands.
In-Ring Segment: Tag Team Sumit hosted by Raw Tag Team Champions Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode & SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions The Revival (Scott Dawson & Dash Wilder)
Roode says when he and Ziggler decided to be a team no one could believe it. Roode says take a good hard look at greatness, at your new Raw Tag Team, he is then cut off by the music of Braun Strowman. The Revival goes after him but Strowman takes care of them. He then goes to get in the ring and Roode retreats. Ziggler gets caught and knocked down by Braun and sent to the outside. Braun then knocks Wilder into the crowd and then takes down Ziggler again. Roode again retreats.
My Opinion:
I always hate how the tag teams just get run over and aren’t taken as seriously as they should be. I mean both the champions were out there and they got destroyed by Braun. Braun is a monster but still, they should’ve been able to fight this off since they are as of now the best teams on their respective brands. For Braun, though he did make his point and it was heard loud and clear. It should be interesting to see where Braun goes next and if he stays in the main event scene.
Backstage Segment: Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross
Bliss and Cross talk about taking care of Rose and Deville last night. Bliss then says Sasha likes to trash things that she can’t keep ahold of. Cross then questions why Bayley forgave her. Bliss then says Bayley is pathetic and will show them tonight about being friends.
Match 1: The O.C. (AJ Styles & Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson) vs Cedric Alexander & The Viking Raiders (Erik & Ivar)
Styles and Alexander start the match and Alexander hits him quick with big right hands. Styles turns the table for a moment but Alexander counters and hits him with big strikes. He then hits him with a big enziguri. Alexander gets Styles down and lands a big kick. Alexander gets him in the corner and tags in Erik Erik takes it to styles but Styles gets in position and tags Anderson. Anderson suffers the same fate with the dominance of Erik. Ivar then comes in and he is slammed onto Anderon. Ivar goes for the cover but Anderson kicks out. Erik tags back in and Gallows now tags in. Gallows grabs him but is then hit with a big right. He backs him into the corner and then uses his agility to avoid Gallows. Erik though makes a mistake and The O.C. is able to take Erik down and run him into the barricade on the outside as Raw goes to break.
As Raw returns, Anderson has Erik in a headlock. Anderson hits Alexander but then gets caught and slammed by Erik. Ivar gets the tag and takes out Gallows. He is then able to take out Styles with a senton and then Anderson with a clothesline. Anderson comes off the ropes with the springboard and tries a cover but it is broken up. Erik comes in to help and takes out Gallows. Anderson hits Anderson with a big kick and then a huge back elbow. Styles tags in blindly and flies off the top rope to hit the Phenomenal Forearm. He goes for the cover and gets the 1 2 3. Styles then attacks Alexander. The Viking Raiders come in to protect but Gallows and Anderson stand toe to toe with him. Gallows and Anderson take it to Erik on the outside but Ivar takes them all out after he flies from the top rope. Styles tries a cheap shot but Alexander stops him on the top rope. Alexander hammers on him with right hands but Styles gets the advantage and lands a styles Clash from the second rope laying out Alexander.
Winners: The O.C.
My Opinion:
This was a big win for The O.C. and what it came down was that they were more of a team. They were able to play to the numbers game where Alexander and The Viking Raiders weren’t able to gel as well. Styles gets the last laugh in this one as well and Alexander is really going to have to step up his game in order to face someone with experience and resume of Styles. Alexander can do this but he is going to have to severely step up his game.
*** We are shown a video of R-Truth and Carmella at the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame where they are met by Mayor Glenn Jacobs (Kane) who offers to show them around the city.

Corbi then rains down with forearm strikes to the neck of Gable. Corbin then wrenches on Gable’s neck. Gable gets to his feet and hits Corbin in the mid-section. Corbin gets back with it and turns Gable inside out with a clothesline after sliding back into the ring. He goes for the cover but again Gable kicks out. Corbin hits him with a blow to the neck. Corbin then taunts him but this allows Gable to fight back and knocks Corbin into the ropes. Corbin follows this up with a big boot. Corbin gets him in the corner and then whips Gable into the opposite corner, Gable hits hard. Corbin hits him with sharp elbows in the corner now. Gable then gets the arm of Corbin but Corbin grabs him and slams him. A cover and another kick out by Gable. Corbin then goes back to work on the neck of Gable. Gable gets to his feet and fights out for a moment but Corbin again hits him from behind and knocks him to the mat. Corbin sends Gable into the ropes. Gable goes down and picks the ankle of Corbin and locks int he ankle lock. Corbin breaks the hold. Corbin then makes a mistake and goes shoulder-first into the ring post. Gable goes up top and flies hitting a missile dropkick. Gable gets to his feet and hits a big boot in the corner. He then hits a dropkick and another to follow. He tries one more time but he is caught and gets slammed. Corbin with the cover but still can’t put Gable away. Corbin goes to the outside and pulls Gable out there with him. Corbin then sends Gable into the barricade ribs first. He brings him around the ring and again sends Corbin into the barricade. Corbin tries to run him into the steps but Gable moves and Corbin hits shoulder-first. Corbin gets back into the ring but Gable grabs him and uses the ring post to wrap the ankle of Corbin around it. He then hammers with big right hands on Corbin. Gable comes off the ropes and is grabbed by Corbin. Corbin then plants him with Deep 6. A cover and a kick out by Gable. Gable gets around on Corbin and hits the German Suplex into the cover, 1,2 and a kick out from Corbin. Gable tries a moonsault but has to land on his feet. Corbin misses on End Of Days and this allows Gable to lock in the ankle lock. He wraps around the leg and wrenches on the ankle. Corbin is in serious pain but he makes it to the ropes. Gable grabs the ankle again in the corner. He then hits Corbin with big elbows. Corbin is able to grab Gable and he hits End Of Days. Corbin goes for the cover and gets the 1 2 3. Corbin is King Of The Ring!
Winner: Baron Corbin: The 2019 King Of The Ring
My Opinion:
Wow, what a finish to that match! First off a big congrats to Baron Corbin, this is another accolade to his resume and some of the best kings have been heel kings and Corbin definitely fits that bill. Gable had so much fight in him but unfortunately, it was more heart than anything. Gable didn’t give up but couldn’t piece together enough offense until the end. Corbin really had to gut this out but he did and ultimately dominated this match. This year it didn’t feel as special as ones in the past but hopefully, they capitalize on this win for him.
Backstage Segment: Maria Kanellis Gender Reveal Party
The Street Profits tell that the Maria Kanellis Gender Reveal Party is coming up next. As Raw returns, Ford welcomes everyone back and says what a beautiful moment to be here and celebrate life. Maria walks in and reveals that the gender is a boy. Maria tells Mike that they all know who the child really is, Ricochet. Ricochet says he would never, not that he wouldn’t but he would never. Mike slaps him and tells him to meet him in the ring now. Titus tells him he better go fix this. Dawkins says real talk he thought she was going to say he was the dad. Ford says they can have a baby on the pole match. Dawkins says what about Maria on the pole. Ford says this is how they got in this mess in the first place.
Match 3: Mike Kanellis vs Ricochet
Mike runs at him but Ricochet ducks. Ricochet continues to move out of the way trying to plead with him. Mike hits him with a right hand and then stomps on him. Ricochet connects with a huge kick and drops him. He then slams him to the mat. Ricochet hits him with a shoulder to the gut and then hits a kick. Ricochet takes him down and then is able to hit the recoil. He goes for the cover and gets the 1 2 3.
Winner: Ricochet
My Opinion:
I’m sure that the whole sequence of segment and match will get a lot of backlash but I got a good laugh out of it. Between Street Profits and the commentary team that was very funny. Ricochet is a top superstar in my book so I hope he doesn’t get caught up in any more segments like this but either way, it was a moment even though I’m sure it won’t be anyone’s highlight of the night.
Firefly Fun House:
Wyatt is in the funhouse and has pics of Balor, Angle, Foley, and Lawler with their faces crossed out. He says something is missing and it’s time for him to go find some more friends.
In-Ring Segment: Maria & Mike Kanellis
Maria asks what it takes to motivate Mike. Maria says obviously Ricochet isn’t the father but she thought if she embarrassed him he would be man enough to fight for her unborn child. She says since Ricochet isn’t the father maybe she will unveil the real father now. Out comes Rusev. Mike grabs a mic and tells Rusev he is having a really bad day and even worse night. He says he isn’t looking to fight or have another match and if he is the father he is kay with it. He tells him and Maria congratulations. Mike goes to the outside and he gets caught by Rusev who runs him over. He then sends him into the barricade and then into the ring. Once again Mike is sent into the barricade. He then sends him into the barricade.
Match 4: Rusev vs Mike Kanellis
The match begins reluctantly and Rusev hits Mike with a kick. Rusev then puts him in the accolade. Mike taps out.
Winner: Rusev
My Opinion:
This was an odd way for Rusev to return and it kind of wasted what could have been a big pop for him and an impact he could have made. He does look great and I hope he gets away from this and next week he is doing his own thing and can be the Rusev we all know and love. Hopefully with Rusev back he can actually get back to the top and not be held down as much as he was before. As for Mike and Maria it’s a shame this is how they are used, I remember them before this and how hot they were as The Kingdom. It’s too bad we can’t get The Miracle Mike Bennett in the WWE.
*** We see another video where Mayor Glenn Jacobs (Kane) brings R-Truth and Carmella to the University of Tennesee’s Stadium. Kane brings out a ref who was dressed as a cop. Truth tries to back away but runs into the goal post. Jacobs is able to then pin him and get the 1 2 3 to become the new 24/7 Champion.
*** Tomorrow night we will see the coronation of Baron Corbin
Match 5: Rey Mysterio vs Cesaro
*** Before the match Cesaro comes out with a mic and tells Mysterio he shouldn’t haven’t listened to his son. He tells him if his kid shows up again he is going to do to him what he is going to do to right now and that’s beat the hell out of him.
The match begins and Cesaro connects with a huge uppercut. He comes off the ropes and drops on Mysterio but it’s not enough to put Mysterio away. Cesaro stays on him in the corner. He grabs Mysterio and heaves him into the opposite corner. Cesaro picks up Mysterio and looks for a powerbomb but Mysterio counters into a hurricanranna and sends Cesaro shoulder-first into the post. Cesaro fights back with an uppercut. Mysterio gets to Cesaro on the apron and is able to hit him with a 619 to the spine. Cesaro rolls through and picks up Mysterio but Mysterio is able to turn this into a DDT. Mysterio hits a kick but is then driven to the ropes. Mysterio catches him again with another DDT off the springboard. a cover and a kick out from Cesaro. Cesaro gets back in control with a big kick. A cover and another near fall for Cesaro. Cesaro gets him ina submission but Mysterio turns it into a pin. Cesaro kicks out. Cesaro is able to intercept the 619 and he lifts Mysterio into the air. He then hits a knee to the ribs. A cover and a kick out again by Mysterio. Cesaro looks for a suplex and hits. Cesaro then turns it into the three amigos but misses on the third as Mysterio is able to send him into the ropes. Mysterio hits the 619. He then flies and is caught. Mysterio then hits a big senton. The cover and the 1 2 3.
Winner: Rey Mysterio
My Opinion:
A big win for Mysterio tonight! This wasn’t the most exciting match but Mysterio was able to stay the course and in vintage style he dug down deep landed a huge counter to put him away. Mysterio is hanging in there and I hope they start making his matches count. I feel like right now this is a retirement send-off giving him matches each week when in fact if he is there and wants to compete then he should be worked into storylines again. For Cesaro, there is obviously so much more he can be doing but his talent is just overlooked.
Firefly Fun House:
Wyatt looks at the camera and smiles for a moment.
*** October 11th starts the draft, no more wild card rule it will be brand exclusive once again.
*** We get a vignette for the returning Authors Of Pain!
Match 6: Nikki Cross & Alexa Bliss vs Sasha Banks & Bayley
Bliss and Bayley stay off the match and Bliss works the arm of Bayley. Bayley fights back and sends Bliss to the mat. She brings her into the corner and Banks gets the tag. Bayley gets Bliss in the corner but Bliss fights out and plants Bayley. Bliss goes for the cover but Bayley kicks out. On the outside, Bliss is able to take out both Banks and Bayley. Bliss goes for another cover but again Bayley kicks out. Cross comes in and hits a dropkick. A cover and a kick out. Bayley takes it to Cross and in comes Banks to help with the double team. Banks then hits double knees but can’t put Cross away. Banks lands a suplex and tries another cover but cross kicks out again. Banks takes it to Cross in the corner but Cross is able to hit a huge kick. Cross then sends Bayley tot he outside. Bayley pulls Bliss to the floor and then drops the injured knee of Bliss on the steps. Banks gets Cross into the corner and stomps on her before wrenching on her neck. Cross and Bliss are both down as Raw goes to break.
As Raw returns, Bliss has been taken to the locker room. Cross fights off Bayley for a moment but Bayley fights back and tags Banks. Banks uses her boot to again wrench on the neck of Bayley. Cross tries a roll-up but Baley kicks out. Cross hits her with an elbow and then connects with a Tornado DDT. Cross then hits the neck breaker off the top rope but Banks breaks up the cover. Banks tags in and Cross locks an inside cradle but Banks kicks out. Banks hits the backstabber and then locks in the Banks Statement. Cross taps out.
*** After the match Banks grabs a chair but here comes Becky Lynch with a chair in hand! The two collide the chairs together. Bayley comes back in with a chair of her own. Now here comes Charlotte! Bayley comes at her with a chair but Charlotte hits her with a boot. She then grabs the chair and hits Bayley. Lynch then is able to duck Banks and hits her with the chair. Banks goes to the outside.
Winners: Sasha Banks & Bayley
My Opinion:
First, I hope Bliss is okay and that was nothing too serious. Second, you have to commend the effort of Nikki Cross. She fought so hard and never gave up. Cross is breaking out in a big way and it’s awesome to watch. For Bayley and Banks they picked up the win and the numbers game helped out with that. In the end, though it is Charlotte and Becky who get the last laughs and for both respectively you have to imagine neither are done after last night. Bayley and Banks better watch out because there are huge targets on their backs and will be until they are put in their place.
Backstage Segment: Sasha Banks
Banks tells Lynch she doesn’t give a damn how many chairs she throws her way. She says she is the star of the division and she is cashing in her winner’s check. She then challenges Lynch to a rematch at Hell In A Cell and says, your move bitch.
*** The Next video of R-Truth shows Truth on top of Kane’s limo. Kane gets out and Truth jumps down and pins him 1 2 3 to win the title. He then reasons with Kane after he grabs him by the throat. Truth tells him he has a lot of responsibilities right now as Mayor and it’s a full-time job being champion. Kane agrees and Truth tells them they should go enjoy Raw. Kane says that’s always been his home.
Backstage Segment:
Lynch says she and The Boss went to war and she loved it. She tells how Banks brought in a chair and cried all day long that she was beaten with it. Lynch tells her how she was fined but doesn’t care. She tells Banks she brought Hell In A Cell into this. She tells that she isn’t interested in facing her at Hell In A Cell, she is going to destroy her inside Hell In A Cell.
Match 7: Lacey Evans vs Dana Brooke
Evans gets her into the corner with big kicks. Brooke fights back and works Evans to the mat. Brooke acks her into the corner and fires with big right hands. Brooke hits a handspring elbow. She tries a cover but Evans kicks out. Evans goes to the outside and Brooke follows. She lands a big slap but as she gets back in the ring Evans sweeps the leg. Evans then lands a slingshot dropkick with the use of the ropes. A cover and a kick out from Brooke. Evans then hits her with a knee. Evans turns it into a bridge midsection stretch. Brooke comes back with a clothesline and is able to land a scoop slam. Evans grabs the hair of Broke and she gets in control. Evans hits her with the Women’s Right and Brooke goes down. Evans then locks in the SharpShooter and tells Nattie this is for her. Brooke taps.
Winner: Lacey Evans
My Opinion:
Brooke came out there and had a lot of fight but Evans did what she had to do to get that win and obviously made a statement to Natalya tonight. Evans is obviously is trying to get in Natalya’s head and it should be interesting to see how Nattie responds. For both Natalya and Evans, this rivalry can be huge as whoever is able to come out on top should be able to work there way into a title shot conversation.
Backstage Segment:
Seth Rollins prepares for his match with Robert Roode
Match 8: Seth Rollins vs Robert Roode w/ Dolph Ziggler
Roode gets around on Rollins but Rollins reverses and works the arm of Roode. Roode breaks it with an elbow and goes to a headlock. Rollins catches him with a kick and then sends him to the outside. Rollins goes to run off the ropes but Dolph gets involved. Rollins catches him and is able to catch Roode and send him face-first into the apron. He then hits him with a knee to the face. Roode this time capitalizes on the distraction and sends Rollins into the barricade. Ziggler then takes a cheap shot. Roode continues to control the match on the outside as Raw goes to break.
As Raw returns, Rollins hits a big chop but he is then caught and planed with a backbreaker. Roode tries a series of covers but Rollins is able to kick out. Rollins hits Ziggler with a superkick on the outside. Rollins fights off Roode and sends him into the barricade. In the ring, Rollins hits the sling blade. Roode is able to send Rollins to the apron. Rollins hangs on and fights him off. Rollins is able to counter Roode and hits the Falcon Arrow. A cover and a kick out by Roode. Rollins goes up top but he is met with a series of rights. Roode meets him up there and tries a suplex but Rollins hangs on and slips underneath turning it into a buckle bomb. Roode hits a kick and then hits the Stomp. He goes for the cover and Ziggler breaks it up to cause the DQ.
***After the match, Ziggler hammers on Rollins but Rollins fights back. Out comes The O.C. Rolins tries to fight them off but is hit with the Magic Killer. Styles then hits him with the Styles Clash. Rollins is continued to be beaten down before being hit with a superkick. Kane’s music then hits and out he comes. He lays out Roode and Ziggler. Eh then lays out the O.C. with chokeslams! The lights then go out and here comes The Fiend! The Fiend is behind Kane and lays him out with the mandible claw. The Fiend then crawls towards Rollins and stares him down.
Winner: Seth Rollins: Via DQ
My Opinion:
A solid match between Rollins and Roode but Rollins got screwed in having to fight off that double team. Nonetheless, he did and was on his way to win this one until Ziggler got involved. It was an incredible ending though with Kane returning to save the day and then we got the emergence of The Fiend! The Fiend is such an amazing character and I love it every time he is out there. The stare down on Rollins was rel and there is no doubt The Fiend wants the title!
Final Thoughts:
A lot happened tonight and first off a big congrats to Baron Corbin on becoming King Of The Ring although the match wasn’t the most exciting the ending sure was and Corbin really gutted it out to win this tournament. Chad Gable has definitely made a name for himself now and I hope he continues to excel. For Corbin hopefully, this is used correctly and big things happen for him. I loved the announcement that we will get Banks and Lynch in a rematch but this time inside Hell In A Cell. This is going to be one hard-hitting match and these two will kill it just like Banks did with Charlotte! I was happy to see Rusev back but it sucked the way he returned, I hope he isn’t involved with that storyline after tonight and can go back to being the brute we know he is. Speaking of returns, I’m so excited that AOP is coming back. They’re an awesome team and I can’t wait to see the intensity they bring back to the tag division. Finally, we got the announcement that we will see The Fiend facing Seth Rollins in Hell In A Cell. Tonight’s ending was more than enough to show The Fiend is ready, between laying out Kane and staring down Rollins his focus is locked in. I cannot wait to see how this continues to unfold, it’s awesome!!!
Overall Rating: 7/10
