RAW REVIEW 10/10/2016
We are on the eve of WWE2k17, but first Monday Night Raw! Tonight we are at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA continuing the road to Hell In A Cell. A big question tonight is what will be Charlotte’s response after losing the Women’s Championship last week to Sasha Banks. Also what does Seth Rollins have in store next for Kevin Owens? What does the road look like for Rusev and Reigns as they prepare for Hell In A Cell. Plus does Brian Kendrick see a Cruiserweight Championship match in his future, and what about the demands of Braun Strowman, will they be met? Most importantly what does an unexpected appearance by Paul Heyman mean for the WWE Universe?
Raw is live tonight from the Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA.
Raw kicks off with us being welcomed to the show by Michael Cole, Corey Graves & Byron Saxton.
In Ring Segment
Raw kicks off with the new WWE Women’s Champion Sasha Bank’s. As she comes to the ring, we take a look back at last week and her win over Charlotte. Bank’s says she feels on top of the world. She says it wasn’t long ago she was in the audience and watching at home. She says she was a little boss but she had big dreams watching her hero Eddie Guerrero. Banks says she’d watch Lita and Trish Stratus and say she wanted to be like that. She says she stole the show and put her body on line and became the 2 time champ. Saying it is for everyone who came before and everyone who will come. She announces the that Charlotte has her rematch at Hell In A Cell and says the match should be in a Hell In A Cell. out comes Charlotte. Before she can make it to the ring out comes Rusev.
Rusev tells the crowd to settle down. He says no one cares about the stupid women’s revolution or that they main evented Raw because he is the main event. Charlotte takes the mic from him and says who the hell do you think you are. She says no one disrespects the Queen and tells Sasha she is on. Rusev says that is good for you but he wasn’t finished. He says it his ring and what he says goes. Sasha then knocks the mic from his hand. Lana says they need to know their place. She says they whine like little girls and that Hell In A Cell is made for real men. Lana is knocked out of the ring by Charlotte and her and Sasha knock Rusev out of the ring. Out comes Roman Reigns. Roman steps in the ring and Rusev steps out.
My Opinion:
I like the proposal made by Sasha, I definitely think that match needs to happen. I don’t think that did much for Rusev and Reigns though. But it did make Sasha and Charlotte look on top even over the men of the division.
– As We return out comes The New Day. Xavier says the Bay Area is home of someone the greats pairs in sports and entertainment. They go to list a couple. They say Cesaro and Sheamus aren’t a pair. How Cesaro is a sophisticated athlete and Sheamus is hot garbage. Xavier reminds that Foley has granted them an opportunity at the titles but that they will show them at Hell In A Cell that they are the best. Out Comes Cesaro and Sheamus.
Match 1: Cesaro vs Kofi Kingston
The two lock up they exchange arm locks and Cesaro hits a shoulder tackle. Cesaro knocks kofi out of the ring and taunts Kofi. Kofi comes in and hits a hurricanrana. Cesaro goes out of the ring and Kofi then shows off. The two are at a standoff outside the ring as we head to commercial break. We return and Cesaro goes for a quick cover but Kofi kicks out. Kofi lands a high crossbody and hits a running clothesline. Kofi goes for Trouble in Paradise but Cesaro ducks. He hits two uppercuts and goes for running uppercuts in the corner. He finishes with a nice kick to the face but it isn’t enough to keep Kofi down. Kofi goes for a high risk move off the top rope but slips. Cesaro goes for a Cesaro Swing but Kofi counters and gets Cesaro in a roll up for the win as Cesaro was distracted from what was happening outside the ring as Sheamus got into it with Xavier and Big E.
Winner: Kofi Kingston
My Opinion:
It was somewhat short match and not much happened. It didn’t really hype these two teams facing each other but just added onto how Cesaro and Sheamus can’t work together. Kofi and Cesaro just did their normal moves and that was it. It just keeps The New Day looking unbeatable. Kofi slipping though was a big mistake and hopefully he is okay.
– Raw returns and we look at Goldberg’s comments from ESPN. He said in the interview how he owes Brock a rematch and that would be his match. Saying never say never. He says he beat him once. Coach says who says you can’t do it again. We see that Heyman will be here live tonight to respond.
Match 2: Bayley vs Cami Fields
Bayley backs Fields into the corner. Bayley gets Fields in a headlock but she powers out. Bayley show boats a little and hits a low clothesline. Bayley Hits a nice arm drag from the second rope. Fields is able to get out of the way of Bayley and gets her backed into the corner with shoulders to the gut. Bayley goes for a sunset flip but Fields hangs on. Bayley is able to regroup and hits the Bayley to Belly for the win. As Bayley celebrates on the ramp Dana Brooke comes out and attacks her from behind.
Winner: Bayley
My Opinion:
Another quick squash match for Bayley but it was fun as always. Hayley is better than these matches but it gives us a nice look at what she can do. Bayley executed her moves nicely and Fields did a good job showcasing Bayley. I like the Dana attack because it could be a nice rivalry for the two. Bayley is established and Dana could use the in ring experience with her. Plus it keeps Bayley in the mix still keeping her relevant to the Sasha and Charlotte storyline.
Backstage Segment
Chris Jericho is backstage on the phone. Telling someone to get him that pay day. He is interrupted by R Truth who comes with an actual payday. Truth walks away and Chris says I didn’t say I didn’t want it you Stupid idiot.
Match 3: Sin Cara and Lince Dorado vs Drew Gulak and Tony Nese
Dorado and Gulak start off. Gulak gets taken down by Dorado and quickly tags in Nese. Sin Cara gets a tag and takes down Nese. Dorado gets back in and is at it with Nese. Nese tags in Gulak and Gulak knocks down Dorado. He gets Dorado in a gut wrench. Back in comes Nese. Nese has Dorado on the ground in a nice headlock. Dorado fights out but Nese tags back in Gulak. Dorado takes both men down and back in comes Sin Cara. He hits a springboard and a tilterworld backbreaker. He lands a drop kick to Nese knocking him off the apron. He tags in Dorado. Sin Cara takes out Nese with a suicide dive. Dorad is in the ring with Gulak. He hits a nice Kick to Gulak and then hits a Shooting Star press for the win.
Winners: Sin Cara and Lince Dorado
My Opinion:
Glad to see Sin Cara in this division now. At least now we have an established superstar other than Kendrick. It was a good match for the teams but felt very quick. It was fast paced and no team really stood out. It moved too fast bt the point was there. These tag team matches are a little odd as they are just thrown out there. The teams do well working together especially Gulak and Nese who did great with quick tags and chemistry. Same to Sin Cara and Dorado who show’d dominance at the end. Maybe some of these teams can actually form and bring some excitement.
– Backstage Foley is stopped by Stephanie. She compliments his attire and Stephanie asks if she can join him out there and he agrees. We head to break.
In Ring Segment
Stephanie says they are chanting for him because of the suit. She says last night’s pay per view was incredible but Hell In A cell will blow it away. He says we already know we have one huge match with Rusev and Reigns. He then says Sasha wants a Hell In A Cell match. He says they don’t get what they want because they want it but they get what they deserve. He says they deserve to get the match they want. He says for the first time ever the women will face off inside in the Hell In A Cell. He says Rollins has asked for his rematch and will get it. He says Owens and Rollins match will also take place inside the Hell In A Cell as well. This brings us to 3 Hell In A Cell matches. Out comes Owens and Jericho.
Owens says do you believe this Chris. He says Mick has out done himself and that is the stupidest decision he has made and that he doesn’t want to be in that match because he wants a long career and not to end up washed up like Foley. He says he is better than that. Jericho questions if Foley is just giving things away. He asks if he would get a private jet if he asked. Owens says he beat Rollins twice. Jericho says it stems from Foley not liking him. Foley says he has liked him before. Jericho says you’re gonna put your champion at risk in that thing. Foley says you’re damn right I am. Jericho says you just made the list. Mick says I’m on the list already. I started the list. Jericho asks Stephanie to take care of this guy. Stephanie says Jericho needs to show him some respect and that she doesn’t care what list she makes. She says Rollins had a grievance and that is why he gets his rematch. Jericho says he like to see that stupid idiot try. Stephanie says Raw could do the triple threat bigger and better than Smackdown. She asks Mick what he thinks of Jericho being put in the match if he beats Rollins. Mick agrees. She says the main event just got a whole lot more interesting and to have a nice day.
My Opinion:
It was nice seeing Stephanie and Mick on the same page. They made some great decisions. Seeing the women in the Hell In A Cell will be huge. Owens didn’t set well with me tonight. He sounded like a baby and to be honest I miss the days with a tough gritted champ that was up for anything. It is interesting that Jericho could be in the match and I think it needs to happen. This adds more to the story and we could see a turn of Jericho when faced with a chance at the title.
Backstage Segment
Seth Rollins is asked by Charlie what his thoughts are on what just happened. He says if her plan A is turn Hell In A Cell into a table for 3 he is going to crush her plans when he beats Jericho. He says he will crush all her plans. He claims he was the best piece she ever had. He says what does Owens have to be thinking about this. He says he is no long a piece in the game but what he is the man that will destroy the machine piece by piece.
-Enzo and Big Cass come out for a match with Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel. They do their normal skit. They enter the ring and are attacked by The Club (Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson). Enzo is hit with a Boot Of Doom. They then turn to Cass and hit him with the Magic Killer.
– We return with Axel and Dallas still in the ring. Axel says they won’t leave until they get a match. He says he still Bolieves and that they want to Fight right now. Out comes Sami Zayn and his partner Neville.
Match 4: Sami Zayn and Neville vs Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel
Dallas starts it off with Zayn. Dallas backs Zayn into the corner and hammers away. Dallas continues to take the fight to Zayn and floors him. Dallas tags in Axel and Axel takes shots to Zayn. He stimps on Zayn utilizing the 5 count on the ropes. Zayn reverse on Axel and hits an exploder into the corner. He hits a Helluva kick and tags in Neville. Neville hits the Red Arrow for the win.
Winners: Sami Zayn and Neville
My Opinion:
It was great for Bo because he just dominated when he was in the ring. If this is a push for him as a singles competitor it was great. It showed he could do it but Axel just let him down. Obviously Axel isn’t going anywhere right now so he was kinda irrelevant other than just being there to prove Dallas is better and doesn’t need a partner anymore. Zayn and Neville together was great. I really think they could do something against an actual tag team that wants to be together. I wish we could’ve seen more of Neville but it is good to keep us waiting and just remind us what Neville can do. This way his matches become special again and aren’t stale.
Backstage Segment
Charlotte is backstage and is approached by Lana. Lana says she had no right to put her hands on her. Charlotte says she suggest she stays out of her way. Lana says she suggest she stays out of her husband’s way or there will be severe consequences.
Match 5: R-Truth vs Titus O’ Neil
Truth tackles Titus. Titus quickly gets up and takes him down. Truth plays to the crowd and lands a kick to Titus face. Titus is able to regain control and land a boot to the face. Titus goes for a cover but Truth kicks out. Titus slams down truth again and goes for another cover but it isn’t enough. Titus lands a couple knees to ribs and drops Truth. Titus gets distracted by Goldust and Truth gets a roll up on Titus for a win.
Winner: R-Truth
My Opinion:
Titus should not be losing these matches. It seems like they are still out to get him. No offense to R-Truth but this win doesn’t do anything. If he loses he is still the fun dancing R-Truth. With Titus losing he is just a lost character. Titus could be a top mid card guy if they gave him the chance but they just hold him down. He can be dominate in the ring if given the chance but they just make him look like a fool.
Backstage Segment
Kenrick is backstage and is greeted by Tj Perkins. Perkins says he knows he isn’t a bad guy and he know who the real Kendrick is. He says Kendrick is afraid to fail. Perkins says Kendrick doesn’t need the cheap shots he would’ve just gave him the rematch. Perkins talks some old stories and says it is not too late for him to be The Brian Kendrick. Kendrick goes to attack Perkins but Perkins knocks him to the ground.
Match 6: Braun Strowman vs The Splash Brothers (No Not Steph Curry and Klay Thompson)
Before the match the Splash Brothers are interviewed by Byron. They claim to ready and that their mom always told them to go and make a Splash. Byron says I hope you have your life preservers ready. The match starts and they go after strowman but he knocks them both down. He does a double drop kick to them and delivers a running power slam and slams one brother onto the other. He pins them for the win. Byron goe to interview Braun and Braun takes the mic. He says Foley I warned you to give me some competition last week. He says heed his warning and get him real competion next week or what happens will be on his hand.
Winner: Braun Strowman
My Opinion:
This was dumb. The two of them were even worse than the previous people Braun has faced. Braun warned Foley last week and this is what he gets? Stop making us wait to see Braun in real action. It is getting old seeing him face jokes. Yeah it was cool seeing him do a drop kick but other than that it is the same stuff. Let’s go and see Strowman face someone tough. I want to see Braun Strowman wrestle and fight, not just get a workout in deadlifting guys every week.
Backstage Segment
Sasha is greeted by Roman. He asks if she is ready. She says she is more than ready. He warns that Hell In A Cell is brutal but says let’s worry about tonight. She says I can handle Charlotte, you just worry bout Rusev. Roman says you got it and we go to commercial.
Match 7: Charlotte and Rusev vs Sasha Banks and Roman Reigns (Challengers vs Champions)
Rusev tells Charlotte I want to start. The bell is rung and Charlotte quickly tags herself in. Before they could start Rusev then tags himself back in. Rusev and Reigns lock up. Reigns knocks down Rusev. Rusev is able to get up and catches Reigns with a spin kick. Reigns lands nice rights to Reigns in the corner. Reigns fights back and the two exchange shots in the middle of the ring. Reigns is able to hit an explosive clothesline stunning Rusev. Reigns is able to hit another one and lands shots to Rusev’s neck in the corner. Reigns goes for a superman punch but Charlotte grabs his leg. Charlotte is then taken out by Sasha and Reigns throws Rusev out of the rings. Sasha and Roman are in control as we head to the break. We are back and Rusev is in control. Reigns fights out and lands some nice rights. Reigns goes for a clothesline but Rusev lands a nice dropkick. He goes for a cover but Reigns kicks out. Rusev throws Reigns into the corner but Reigns comes off explosive and hits a Superman Punch. The women then get the tag. Sasha comes out hot with a dropkick and double knees. She lands some shots and lands double knees to the gut. Charlotte goes for a quick cover but Sasha kicks out and turns it into the Banks Statement. Rusev comes to try to break it up but Reigns comes in and spears Rusev. Charlotte then taps out to Banks.
Winners: Sasha Banks and Roman Reigns
My Opinion:
A very solid match. Reigns and Banks were on fire. Sasha dominated Charlotte. I like that though because we don’t want to see them tear each other apart every time or the big matches aren’t special. Reigns and Rusev is kinda getting old as there is only so much they can do with each other. I hope they play it safe like that though with these men until Hell In A Cell and then have them up it.
Backstage Segment
Jericho and Owens are in the back and are interviewed by Tom Phillips. He asks how Owens feels about his match with Rollins. Owens Says Seth says he’s got answers and I do too. Owens says it doesn’t matter if it is a triple threat match or a singles match he is walking out the champion. Phillips asks why Owens didn’t come to Jericho’s aid last week. Owens says they talked about it and agree sometimes someone has to take one for the team. No matter what they are both the champion if one of them is. Owens tells Phillips to leave and Jericho tells Phillips he just made the list. We head ro-Backstage Foley is stopped by Stephanie. She compliments his attire and Stephanie asks if she can join him out there and he agrees. We head to break.
-As we return we are shown Goldberg’s comments from ESPN. Paul Heyman is out in the ring.
In Ring Segment
Heyman does his my name is Paul Heyman speech and the offers a preview of WWE 2K17 which shows Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar. Heyman says for 12 years people have asked what if just for one more night we could experience Goldberg. He says every time someone got on a roll or was the new badass you’d hear the Goldberg chant around the arena. He says you think about all the titles and legends Goldberg has beat and how they were conquered by him. He says that Goldberg’s career was running parallel to Lesnar’s. He says that he doesn’t like that Goldberg is one up on Brock Lesnar. He says he has been authorized tonight to let everyone know that Goldberg has been challenged to a fight. Anytime and anyplace Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar. He says you can listen to the audience and that he can live in the video game fantasy and remain Brock’s blemish or he can come to the ring and fight Lesnar. Saying that in suplex city he is not Goldberg he is next.
My Opinion:
Classic Paul Heyman. This got me very hyped. I hope this does happen and seems very likely it will. You can’t name drop like that and leave us with nothing. I get that the video game is coming out but that is different than real life. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that it is fun to play as Goldberg but even better to watch him in real life.
– As we head to break Brian Kendrick comes out to join commentary as TJ Perkins is set for action next.

Perkins hits a Wrecking Ball dropkick. Perkins is able to lock in another Kneebar and Davari taps out.
Winner: TJ Perkins
My Opinion:
Davari looked very good in this match. The two shared some nice move combinations. I still think Perkins is pretty bland but his in ring ability is very good. I just don’t like that we don’t even know if we will see Davari next week or anytime soon. They need to still really establish these guys. Cruiserweights didn’t use to have to be a special part of the show they just were. So to act like this a special attraction it ruins it. They should be looked at as just as important. Overall these guys do what they have to do out there but they aren’t given the chance to really put on a show.
Backstage Segment
Jericho is backstage and is met by Stephanie. Steph says she wishes him good luck in his match. Jericho says they have never had a problem and earlier he got a little angry and thought about writing her name on the list but didn’t. She says a win for him tonight is a win for Raw. Stephanie says once they are in the cell she can’t do anything and if him and Kev are as good of friends as they say he’ll know what to do. Owens approaches and asks what that was all about. Jericho responds saying friendship.
– As we return we see that Goldberg will be at Raw live next week to respond to Heyman’s challenge!!!

He lands a nice boot to Rollins that takes him right off the top rope. Jericho taunts him and slaps him. Rollins slaps him back but Jericho locks in an abdominal stretch. Jericho looks for a suplex but Rollins counters and Jericho lands face first. Rollins goes for a crossbody but Jericho catches him with a dropkick to the ribs. Jericho covers but Rollins kicks out. Rollins counters the Code Breaker and hits a kick to the throat. It is not enough to put away Jericho. The two again trade shots. Rollins lands a nice knee. Rollins fights and gets to the ropes. Owens takes a cheap shot on Rollins but he is able to kick out of Jericho’s pin. Jericho goes to the top and looks to take out Rollins but misses and lands on the outside. Rollins takes out Owens with a suicide dive. Rollins lands a running knee off the top rope to Jericho but Jericho kicks out. Rollins goes to the top looking for the frog splash but misses. Jericho hits the Lionsault and goes for the pin but Rollins kicks out. Jericho goes to the top rope but Rollins catches him.Rollins looks to meet Jericho on top but is knocked down by Jericho. Jericho jumps and Rollins hits kick to ribs. Rollins goes for a pedigree but jericho counters. Jericho goes for the walls by Rollins rolls him up and gets the 1 2 3. Owens then comes in to attack Rollins. He goes for a pump up powerbomb but Rollins counters. He goes for the pedigree but Jericho breaks it up. Owens gets out of the ring and walks away as Seth counters Jericho and hits the pedigree on him.
Winner: Seth Rollins
My Opinion:
The two put on a great match for sure. They took each other to the limit. I wish Jericho would have won as I think that would’ve made the title match very interesting. On the other hand this proved Rollins is dominate and he needed the win to make us believe in what he is saying. Owens walking away from the fight I didn’t like. I think for a guy like him he needs to be more hard nose. He isn’t a pretty champion so he shouldn’t act like one. The rift between Jericho and Owens has been planted for a couple weeks now so Hell In A Cell should be very interesting.
Final Thoughts:
It was a good show for the most part. There were definitely some huge announcements. We learned that Sasha will defend her Women’s Championship against Charlotte in a Hell In A Cell. Plus Kevin Owens will do the same against Seth Rollins. Not only that but we learned Goldberg will be on Raw next week. This show gave us a reason to watch next week and hyped Hell In A Cell well. Some down points would be Strowman’s match because it is time to see him face competition. Also the Cruiserweights were meaningless yet again and just were time fillers. Other than just the three main feuds going on it is time for others to step up. Make the tag team divison interesting. Give us feuds that don’t have to have title implications but rather because we want to see them go at it. This Raw did leave us with questions but in a good way.
Overall Rating: 7/10
