SMACKDOWN LIVE REVIEW 11/28/2016
Smackdown Live is five days away from WWE Tables, Ladders and Chairs, the biggest spot fest of the year and we can’t possibly be more excited about tonight’s show with American Alpha vs. Orton and Wyatt and hopefully getting a stipulation for Becky v. Alexa, will we get that? Will we get an AJ Styles and Ambrose fight without James Ellsworth? Let’s find out!
WWE Smackdown Live comes to us from the Colonial Life Arena at Columbia, South Carolina.
The show starts with the ring in a black carpet and Renee Young announcing a Becky Lynch and Alexa Bliss contract signing. Alexa made Renee get out of the ring and her and Becky started to argue. They went over their match at Glasgow and traded insults for their upcoming match with Alexa saying Becky grew up in a potato farm and she would be champion if it wasn’t for dumb Irish luck and Becky saying Alexa reminds her of her 4-year old cousin Neve. At the end, Becky sucker punched Alexa and continued the assault and tried an exploder suplex form the top rope to the table but Alexa countered and pushed Becky into the table.
Opinion: Holy shit, that was really solid from Alexa on the mic! I know people will disagree but I really liked what she did on the mic and Becky seemed lost out there, her reactions and facial expressions just look out of place.
1) The Miz and Baron Corbin vs. Dolph Ziggler and Kalisto.
In a solid match that was there pretty much just to make both feuds progress at the same time, Kalisto & Dolph Ziggler defeated The Miz and Corbin by disqualification when Baron Corbin hit Kalisto with a chair.
Opinion: It wasn’t a bad match I guess, but the Ziggler-Miz feud feels out of steam and the Kalisto-Corbin one feels forced, but I’m excited to see Corbin in a booked match in the main show of a PPV.
American Alpha are being interviewed backstage about tonight’s main event and just hyped the fact they were winning. Also stating that the Wyatts would run when they see them.
The Wyatt Family appeared on the titantron and Bray called American Alpha delusional and Randy said they were closed minded. At the end, Wyatt told Luke Harper to send Kane back to hell.
Carmella makes her entrance, picks up a mic and talked trash about Nikki Bella for quite a bit. She apologized to John Cena about what she’s doing to Nikki on Sunday and kept taking shots like that until Nikki’s music hit and she came down to the ring. A little brawl broke out between the two but Nikki got the upper hand and Carmella went away.
Opinion: I still don’t buy the Orton in the Wyatt Family concept but I guess it’ll grow on me. On the other hand, I really liked Carmella as a heel but now it just feels like every promo is the same with her feud with Nikki. Survivor Series has made it seem like this feud has been dragging on pretty long without progression to the next step. Hopefully, Sunday’s TLC will change that.
Dean Ambrose makes his way to the ring and welcomes everyone to the Ambrose Asylum. He brings James Ellsworth out and they talk about Ellsworth being an official Smackdown Live full time superstar. They also talk about Ellsworth defeating AJ Styles three times and how Ellsworth is rooting for Ambrose this Sunday. AJ Styles came out and insulted Ellsworth and Ambrose like usual until Styles attacked both of them. He focuses on Ellsworth by throwing him into the tables and chairs, hitting him with a chair while being hanged off the ring and hitting an Styles Clash off the steps.
Opinion: Great to see such an aggressive side from AJ and hopefully this means Ellsworth won’t interfere this Sunday. I know this made The Wrestling Classic happy.
Backstage, Dean Ambrose is apologizing to Ellsworth who is being loaded into an ambulance.
2) Kane vs. Luke Harper.
In a match where I personally like Luke Harper looked particularly awesome, Kane defeated Luke Harper by pinfall with a chokeslam.
Opinion: Harper is awesome in the ring and his character works, why is he losing to Kane on Smackdown?
Becky is being interviewed backstage and said she got a spine bruise and is told that Alexa challenged her to a tables match to which Becky simply responded she is looking forward to getting her revenge on that bitch.
3) American Alpha vs. The Wyatt Family.
Ok, probably this is just me being in a good mood but in a fucking awesome match, The Wyatt Family defeated American Alpha by pinfall when Bray Wyatt hit Sister Abigail on Jason Jordan.
Backstage, Rhyno and Heath Slater are being interviewed about facing the Wyatts on Sunday but said the Wyatts were the ones that need to prepare. AJ Styles walked in and said no one cared about the tag team titles until Rhyno got it his face. Dean Ambrose then ran in and attacked AJ to close out the show.
Final Thoughts
That’s Smackdown Live this week! A much more solid episode than last week’s, with a stipulation added to Becky v Alexa, a really solid main event and Ambrose vs Styles being built as a personal feud which creates much more excitement for Sunday’s title match.
Final Rating: 8.7 out of 10.
