That Wrestling Blog
2nd Edition – December 3-7, 2018
What a big week it has been in wrestling! Not really, but we did see record low ratings for the year which as usual, has us internet nerds tweeting furiously about how shit the current product is and how they will never watch again, blah blah fucking blah, you’ll be back, you always come back!
I will start with RAW and Dean Ambrose. Firstly, let’s talk about the siren, it’s gotta go end of story, we already have enough sirens with the Cesaro/Bar entrance. Secondly, I don’t really understand the whole germaphobe angle they are playing with Dean. I think Dean is a fantastic promo, but when he shits on the crowd saying that they essential are all disease ridden and stink, I think to myself “meh, it’s been done.” I don’t think Dean needs to shit on the crowd and come out with a gas mask, Dean generated nuclear heat when he initially turned on Seth and I think he should play to that by reminding us all every week. Focus on Seth and Roman, not the audience, is what I am trying to say. I have always enjoyed Dean Ambrose but I am not entirely behind his germ hating behaviour.
Since returning the main roster, ‘The Chosen One’ Drew McIntyre has been one of the very few highlights of RAW. Each week he seems to be getting better and better on the microphone and each week they seem to be featuring him more and more. I see gold (red) in the future for the Scottish Psychopath but I was a little confused with how they went with the storyline between him and Dolph Ziggler this week and left me with a few questions. Is Dolph a babyface now and if so, why the fuck aren’t they fighting at TLC? Surely Dolph vs Drew makes more sense than Drew vs Finn? It is a natural storyline that could have been paid off at TLC. Instead, they give it to us on RAW.
Finally on RAW, what the fuck is a Lucha House Party and why the fuck are they shitting on the Revival so much? I feel like this is just making the Dash and Dawson looking fucking stupid, even more stupid than they’ve looked in the past. It seems like a long time ago that D&D were putting on 5 star classics in NXT with D.U.I. Unfortunately I don’t see the boys recovering from this and like they tweeted, will probably end up fighting the Young Bucks sooner, rather than later.
Just quickly, (because I know he is a massive fan of my work) I would like to thank the ‘Man Beast’ Rhyno for entertaining the fans for over 20+ years. The ECW original was “fired” (retired) from wrestling this week and probably won’t be back on TV. Well who the fuck knows actually, some people are saying he is still working house shows. Anyway Ryhno, thumbs up to you, whatever happens. GORE! GORE! GORE!
If you follow my award winning (made that up) Instagram page @that__wrestling__guy, you will notice a common theme. That I fucking love Samoa Joe, and I will not ever stop talking about him because he’s a brilliant heel who knows his character so well. I will admit, I did get flashbacks this week to the CM Punk, Chris Jericho storyline in 2012, which ended with Punk getting a bottle of Jack Daniels smashed over his head (great stuff). I don’t think it is going to go that far with Joe and Hardy but I do love the angle that they are going with. You never know where Joe is going to pop up these days, at a bar, at your wives house, selling girl scout cookies in parking lot (watch the Edge and Christian show season 2 episode 1, you’ll see what I mean). The brilliance of Joe is that he has a evil but calm tone when he talks, which really makes you pay attention. At this point, you are probably thinking that I want to make out with Samoa Joe and have his children, and the answer to that is, yes, yes I do want that.
The talk of Smackdown Live this week and rightly so, was the New Daniel Bryan. It is quite impressive how much heat he has been able to generate in a few short weeks but I suppose kicking one the top babyfaces in wrestling in the nuts will do that. There were two highlights of the new DB for me this week and the first one was what? What? What? You know what I’m talking about, that annoying word that Stone Cold Steve Austin made famous. For just under two decades, the “WHAT?” chant has plagued international superstars and uninteresting promos, some welcomed and some not. Since that chant started, no one has really been able to shut the audience up, but this week Mr. New was able to burn to do just that.
The second highlight was Mr. New on commentary for the main event. All I will say is that I feel sorry for all the men that his daughter dates in the future and their groins. I don’t think I have ever heard the word groin being mentioned so much in one night.
In NXT news Punishment Martinez debuted and had a match against Matt Riddle who were ‘Bro’s together back in Ring of Honour. In probably bigger news, Martinez also managed to get the classic Triple H post-match photo backstage.
Another week of wrestling another week of complaints, it seems like RAW is stuck in a bit of a loop at the moment while Smackdown is keeping things somewhat fresher with new interesting storylines, except for the Bar, New Day and the Usos fighting for tag titles, give us SANITY!
Kind Regards,
