That Wrestling Blog
3rd Edition – December 16, 2018
While I am looking forward to the 5th annual Tables, Ladders and Chairs Pay per View this Sunday (yeah I looked it up), the build-up quality from both shows have been vastly different. While I am at it, who the hell still buys WWE Pay Per Views? Like, who actually pays to view that event for 30 bucks? Anyway, back to the “go home” shows.
RAW as well all know, has been pretty rough to watch over the last few weeks but I think people tend to forget WWE has never really had really strong Decembers, I mean, we all still remember the Christmas Nightmare that was the ECW event December to Dismember back in 2006 right? I am not sure if it was clever or not to have Baron Corbin take the on screen blame for the backstage creative nightmares that have occurred. I have heard people say that Rollins promo was similar to the Pipe Bomb promo and to those people I say, are you fucking kidding me? Rollins promo wasn’t from the heart, it was from Vince. Seth channelled his inner Roman Reigns and mentioned Brock Lesnar never being on RAW. By the way, can you believe it’s been 16 years since he’s had a match on RAW? 16 YEARS!!! Hopefully this is setting up for a Brock vs Seth match at Wrestlemania, I would love to see it and Seth absolutely deserves the opportunity to be the ‘face’ of the company.
As is a universal truth amongst wrestling fans, we all Walk with Elias and are attention is always turned to the TV when we hear that strum of his guitar. I do want to heed a warning to Mr Elias however, to be careful he doesn’t swing back from heel to face too much. A week earlier he mentioned Carmelo Anthony leaving the Rockets while RAW was in Houston. Now if I was a Houstonian (not sure if that’s what they are called) I would have been a little offended by that statement, as it was kind of a bad move for the Rockets to get him in the first place. Fast forward to this week and why he didn’t trash on San Diego (which I believe means a whale’s vagina) he did mention that the people in LA were trash. Now what happens when the great man visits Los Angeles again? Maybe I am reading too much into it, but I will admit I preferred Elias when he was shitting on towns. Finally, on RAW, can someone tell me what the fuck a guitar ladder match is? Does the winner get a brand-new guitar? I understand that they wanted to do something with the guitar, but it really doesn’t make any sense, it’s no DQ why couldn’t Elias just bring down a guitar at the start of the match, smash it over Lashley’s back, climb, the ladder and smash one over Lio Rush? I would prefer my boy Buddy Murphy and Cedric had a ladder match. That shit would have been nearly match of the year.
Smackdown Live, I have to praise you, I have to praise you, like I should. Giving Mustafa Ali the opportunity to go against Daniel Bryan was fantastic and added that little bit of freshness and intrigue to the show. Just to add Daniel Bryan, I drive an Australian V6 car that absolutely chews through petrol (gas), how very fickle of me.
While I am in a praising mood, I would also like to praise Asuka vs Charlotte and them closing the show with this feud. I am fucking pumped for the triple threat TLC match but unfortunately after seeing Asuka get the upper hand by beating the shit out of the Man and the Queen, I don’t think the Empress will the champion of tomorrow.
I would like to mention the WWE Tag Team division and after what happened on both shows, how can anyone really take the titles seriously? My main man Zanca @stillrealtous, put it perfectly when he said on his most recent podcast that almost all the tag teams are goofy and are always trying to be funny. Comedy in wrestling, is rarely done right and usually has a short lifespan for characters, for example, Santino Marella and Damien Sandow, the acts get old very quickly if you are always doing comedy. One team who has done it better than most and has the right to gyrate and shake their ass and that is the New Day, anyone else I don’t think should be doing it. It has been rumoured that Vince doesn’t like tag team wrestling, but for me, tag team wrestling has given me some of the most memorable highlights. We have AOP pissing themselves and the Bar rapping whilst the Revival are being treated like shit with the Lucha House Party. Also, can someone tell me why it’s always the tag teams involved all the holiday gimmick matches? I can’t wait for the New Day to take on the Bar in a Santa’s Sleigh match on Smackdown in a couple of weeks (spew).
Okay, my therapist said I should try and be more positive, so here goes nothing….TLC has a great card. I am actually looking forward to seeing most of the matches except for the guitar ladder match that was mentioned earlier. How can AJ Vs DB not be a great match? How can Dean Vs Seth not be a great match? How could the Mixed Match Challenge finals not be a great match! Well, maybe I went a bit too far with my positivity there but you get my point. The final PPV in a year that seems to have had about 30 of them. I will do my highlights from 2018 in a couple of weeks, but for now sit back tomorrow and enjoy the Tables, Ladders and Chairs, oh my!
Kind Regards,
