THE MIZ: HE ACTUALLY IS AWESOME

By now, if you’re reading this, I’m sure you’ve seen The Miz’s huge rant against Daniel Bryan on Smackdown Live’s aftershow, Talking Smack. If you haven’t watched it, go to to YouTube and watch it now….I’ll wait.
You watched it? Good.
People everywhere are astounded by the amount of amazing work we see in a two and a half minute video, but should they be? Everyone seems to be so surprised by the Miz’s “sudden” ability to create amazing heat and mic work, but this is all stuff that we’ve seen before just on a much more intense scale
Let me explain that his Promo or interview, or however you would describe that, was brilliant. It was Effing Brilliant. Regardless of whether it was a work or a shoot, it was a work of art. People hate the Miz, not just because he is a heel but because of how he started in the WWE.
So let’s take a quick look at The Miz from the beginning, til now:
The Miz began as a reality TV star, I use the term “Star” very loosely. Through his fame and love for wrestling he landed a spot on WWE Tough Enough, which used to be a semi relevant show. He didn’t win the competition but got a development deal and was sent to Deep South Wrestling, over time he would work his way to main roster in on Smackdown.
He showed up on Smackdown looking like an uber douche with spike hair, a bedazzled fedora and long shorts to match. He looked more like someone who though Fall Out Boy was a good band than he did a Wrestler.
He was instantly hated, and for good reason. He was annoying, not a very good wrestler and was forced on our TV.
He’d soon tag with John Morrison and would start making his mark on the industry. Though Morrison wasn’t much loved at the time either, he had the athleticism to warrant his spot. The Miz and Morrison would soon show that they could channel the heat into good promos and solid work. If you’re already hated anyways than being a heel should be easy, they seemed to discover this quickly and it paid dividends. They would take gold and run with it.
After tagging with Morrison, Miz enjoyed a solid solo career. He’d win the US Title and Intercontinental Title many times. But he hit his stride when he won Money in the Bank and cashed in for the WWE Championship.
Now, at this point, is when I feel the Miz truly developed as a star and someone I respected. His Promos and heel work got very good. So good, that the Internet actually wanted Cena to take the Title off him. The Internet Hates Cena, so that’s some impressive heel work.
The Miz would soon star, again loose term, in WWE films and would adopt his best gimmicks yet. The A List Celebrity.
At this point I decided that I liked the Miz. He began to be legendary on the mic, the minute he spoke the crowd booed. Unfortunately, the “Smart Wrestling Fans” Didn’t really know why they were booing him anymore.
If you look at the Smart Wrestling Fans, or Internet, or Indie Fans, or whatever you want to call them; they all love good heels. But for some reason they hated the Miz. And why? Honestly, it seems to all stem from how he started in the WWE, as a very green douche. No one has really paid attention to his actual development, they just see him as this guy who wears fedoras and shouts, “‘Cause I’m the Miz, and I’m Awesome!”
No one has watched as he’s excellently mastered working the crowd, I mean, I have. That’s why I’m writing this article, but I’m better than you, so that kind of explains that one. People had yet to give The Miz the benefit of the doubt, and that is only further cemented by his Style of Wrestling.
The Miz is a very basic wrestler, he isn’t flashy, he doesn’t do unbelievable holds, he doesn’t counter everything, he doesn’t do flippy shit, he just wrestles. And that’s fine, but it’s his heel work that sets him beyond your average wrestler. He works the crod into a frenzy whenever he’s in the ring or on the Mic. Just look at his work with Damien Mizdow. He kept teasing the crowd with a Mizdow tag for weeks and wouldn’t get it for them. He forced him to lose matches. He made you hate him, like legit, want to punch him in the face hate him. And he did it with a sly fucking grin on his face because he knew he had you.
What sucks about his style of Wrestling is that their are so many Indie Darlings in the WWE now. Cesaro, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Shinsuke Nakamura, Adrian Neville, etc. Plus you have the cruiserweights set to debut on Raw. These wrestlers are all fantastic and very flashy on top of it. The Miz isn’t flashy, he’s more old school. The Internet Hates old school, for the most part. They are Smart Wrestling Fans and they demand flippy crazy moves. There’s nothing wrong with that style, but it isn’t the only style and shouldn’t be seen as such.
One thing about Smart Wrestling Fans, most of them are fucking stupid.
The Miz used to be awful, there’s no argument there. But he has gained considerable skill in both in wring and on the mic technique, it’s time we paid him his due.
And we finally seem to be doing that.
In his interview segment Daniel Bryan played the part of the Internet Fan, calling out Bryan for his lack of high flying death defying moves and not putting his body on the line in every match. He called The Miz’s style that of a coward.
And then Magic happened.
The Miz spun a web of venomous fury. He belittled and berated Daniel Bryan for ending his career too short by always being a risk taker, for “lying” to the fans and never coming back as a wrestler, for letting the WWE tell him he can’t wrestle again and not going back to the indies and doing what he supposedly loved. He said that it was Daniel Bryan who was the coward and then even called out the fans. The intensity in his eyes was unbelievable, he looked like someone who was finally telling his side of the story and wasn’t willing to listen to all the hate anymore.
It was wonderful.
Finally the rest of the world thought so too, and now the internet is talking about his potential and where he can go, like he hasn’t already been going there for years.
I know this is hard for the internet to handle: but the Miz has been Awesome for quite some time. Your approval means nothing.
This is just a new chapter in the career of a man who has been doing exactly what he should be doing for quite some time, and it’s a chapter I am looking forward to, and you should too.
