TNA IMPACT! Review 9/1/16
Hey guys, it is the internet’s resident TNA and EVOLVE fanatic back again with my Impact review. School starts again soon so I don’t know how much longer I’m gonna be able to do these regularly but I’ll try to still get them out.
Impact started with a great segment with the Hardys. These are pretty much always really good.
Next up was a segment with Bennett and Maria, Lashley, and Moose. It was a fine segment that built up the match later tonight between Bennett and Lashley. Moose said that he would be the person who decides who walks out with the world title so basically its gonna be an overbooked mess. Great.
Broken Matt w/Brother Nero vs Crazzy Steve
This was a pretty decent but basic match. Not good, not bad but it furthered the story as after the match Crazzy Steve announced that King Maxel was now Rosemary’s baby. **
Ultimate X Gauntlet for the X-Division Championship
Trevor Lee vs DJ Z vs Andrew Everett vs Mandrews vs Braxton Sutter vs Rockstar Spud
This was a really good match with Mandrews being the highlight even though everyone did well. Spud and Sutter costing eachother the match at different points was some nice continuity to that feud that helped the match. These multi man X-Division matches are definitely overdone but they’re still really fun pretty much every time so I don’t really mind. I was also very happy with the outcome, DJ Z deserves this more than anyone. ***1/4
Drew Galloway came out and cut a very good heel promo where he blamed the fans for his downfall, saying that they turned their back on him and cheered more for EC3 and Aron Rex than they did for him. Billy Corgan came out (seeing someone thats not Dixie Carter be called TNA President was weird and sad) and said that he was going to suspend Galloway for his actions last week but someone convinced him not to. That person ended up being Aron Rex. Rex and Galloway brawled before being pulled apart by security guards, referees, and X-Division guys. This was a pretty good segment.
EC3 vs Eli Drake
I didn’t have very high expectations going into this as Eli Drake isn’t very good in the ring and EC3 is great and is one of my favorite wrestlers right now but he doesn’t work that well when hes wrestling people who aren’t that good. This was a basic and uninteresting match. **
After this Jeremy Borash interviewed Allie, the new Knockouts Champion. She did very well and announced that there would be a celebration for her championship win.
Allie’s celebration was next, but was quickly ruined by Maria. Maria insulted Allie saying she is worthless and that there is no reason to celebrate her. Maria says the celebration is really for her and forces Allie to lay down for her. Maria is the new Knockouts Champion. Under almost any circumstance I would be 100% against this but Allie is so fantastic in this role and if they don’t mess this up she is going to become the division’s top face from this so I’m very excited. Or they could use it as a way to get the Knockouts Championship back on Gail Kim which would be awful.
TNA World Heavyweight Championship No Disqualification Match
Lashley (c) vs Mike Bennett
This was a rough main event compared to matches like EC3 vs Galloway and Lashley vs Storm that have main evented in recent weeks. Lashley is awesome but Bennett is just so average, I don’t get why they love him so much. It was good to see Bennett lose I guess.. **1/4
Throughout the night there were a bunch of fantastic segments with the Hardys including one where Rosemary threw a fake baby at Reby from a balcony which was a nice callback to when Reby did that to Jeff only a few months ago. Next week it looks like some crazy stuff is going to happen with Hardys and Decay so I’m very excited for that.
Final Thoughts: The match quality continued to not be as good as it has been on most episodes in the last couple months but at least there was one good match. The high points of this show were the stuff with Allie, Ultimate X, the Hardys segments, and the Galloway/Rex stuff Everything else is very skippable.
Final Rating: 6.5/10.
