Wrestler Theme Songs
This will be my first write up for The Wrestling Classic website and I thought I would do a short little thing on wrestling themes to get my feet wet.
People don’t think much about theme songs when it comes to the grand scheme things of professional wrestling but it is in fact a big thing. A fans first exposure to a new superstar that they have no clue about is the superstar’s theme song. Just to take a quick look back in the past, you guys remember Kane’s debut at Badd Blood 1997 right? Hearing that organ music play and the arena fill with red as the Big Red Machine made his way down to the ring instantly filled everyone with fear. That just shows how much presentation matters in making characters. Just look at Triple H, during his peak in the early 2000’s his “My Time” theme blasted through speakers around arenas world wide and boo’s reigned down on the King of Kings. It was such and identifiable theme and gave off this cocky asshole vibe to Triple H that really encapsulated what he was going for during that time. Also while talking themes who could forget mentioning people like Shawn Michaels, Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Undertaker, and John Cena who’s entrance tunes have transcended wrestling and have been huge hits in all forms of pop culture. You had memes made of John Cena’s theme song being shared over every social media platform imaginable. You had non wrestling fans mentioning and bringing it up just because it is so distinguished and people know John Cena. The current crop of wrestlers isn’t shy of great themes either, Just look at Shinsuke Nakamura, Bobby Roode, AJ Styles, and Aleister Black. All guys have great themes that wrap up the character perfectly and give the audience a good idea of that particular superstar. Bobby Roode has seen a lot of success since joining the NXT brand. His theme can be heard chanted and sung during his entrance as is Nakamura’s. These are what changes a regular wrestler to a superstar, anyone can have a generic theme and get lost in the shuffle but if you have something that is all your own and makes you stand out then you are a superstar.
That will be it for now, I hope you enjoyed my first write up here on The Wrestling Classic website. I hope to write a lot more for this site.
