This week has been a very up and down week in wrestling. The G1 in NJPW has continued and is still unbelievably entertaining although the wrestlers are getting very tired at this point as I will elaborate on later. WWE have also had a great week with both Raw and SDLive having great shows as they near to their biggest PPV of the summer, Summerslam! However this week in wrestling there has been a lot of sad news.
The first piece of bad news is what I did slightly mention in last week’s issue before it was actually confirmed is that WWE female superstar Bayley has been injured. She has suffered a separated shoulder after Nia Jax dropped her onto her shoulder on last week’s edition of Raw. These accidents should not happen and to be honest it wasn’t even an accident, she obviously didn’t mean to injure her but obviously if you drop someone on their shoulder with force bad things are going to happen. However this injury could actually be a good thing for her career. There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Bayley has been booked like trash over the last few months and then for some reason she has another match with Alexa Bliss who beat her several times which makes hardly any sense at all, so when Bayley does return she should actually have momentum again and the fans should hopefully be behind her again and as long as she gets booked well then hopefully she will be a top female superstar who people are interested in and get behind again.
Bayley was not the only WWE superstar to be injured this week. Scott Dawson from the Revival, who were meant to have a three way tag match against The Hardy’s and Anderson and Gallows at Summerslam, has suffered a ruptured bicep tear and will likely need surgery which will put The Revival out for months again. This is really sad news for The Revival who are ‘top guys’ in WWE right now.
The final piece on the subject of sad news this week is that Japanese wrestling legend Yoshihiro Takayama has been paralyzed from the neck down after an injury suffered a few months ago. Even though he has been hospitalized for a few months it has only now been revealed how bad the injury really is. My thoughts go out to him and I hope and pray that a miracle could happen for him.
On last week’s episode of SDLive where Shinsuke Nakamura defeated John Cena to become the No.1 Contender for the WWE Championship. However in the match Shinsuke dropped Cena on his head, normally in the move the person who was receiving the move would flip but obviously Cena had not seen the move before. This is difficult to see who is to blame here because one could argue it is John Cena’s fault as this is a move regularly used for Nakamura so he should have known about it before however as I have said before a move shouldn’t be done unless both wrestlers know how to do it safely. Nakamura could be seen apologising to Cen after the match and Cena responded saying ‘don’t worry about it’ which indicates the entire situation is water under the bridge. However according to Sports Illustrated Vince McMahon was furious with Nakamura after the incident. This could mean that Shinsuke Nakamura will no longer win the title if that was the original plan. Here is how I think WWE should book the Summerslam match. Shinsuke Nakamura should win the title clean after a 20 minute match with Jinder in which time Shinsuke would also take out the Bollywood boys, then after he wins the title Corbin cashes in wanted to ruin his rivals dreams, however Shinsuke would also beat Corbin which would result in Corbin being unbelievably frustrated and this will help him become an even better heel. This theory would also make sense because Vince reportedly feels that Baron isn’t at the main event standard he expected him to be at this point.
Sports illustrated are also reporting that WWE are no longer interested in signing Mysterio because of issues between Vince and Rey’s management team and Konnan in specific.
Some of you may have noticed that the Hardy’s weren’t on Raw this week and this is because Raw was in Toronto this week he couldn’t go as because of his past criminal record and WWE felt no need to bring over Matt if Jeff wasn’t on the show
Ronda Rousey has started training with Brian Kendrick which is potentially leading up to the MMA four horsewomen taking on the WWE’s horsewomen.
The G1 in NJPW is coming to an end now. In A Block the two top ranked superstars are Naito and Tanahashi who will have their match on Friday to find out who will go into the final on Sunday. In B Block Okada is leading by one point closely followed by Omega meaning Omega will have to beat Okada in less than 30 minutes on Saturday in order to get to the final. The current favourite to win the tournament is Naito.
According to Dave Meltzer Adam Cole will be signing with WWE but they don’t know when he will debut yet and he doubts it will be at NXT Takeover Brooklyn. This leads on perfectly to the reported ROH WWE stable reported by PWInsider. WWE are reportedly talking about an ROH stable in NXT which would include superstars like Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, Kyle O’Reily, possibly Lio Rush and Donathon Dijak, if this is true it would be a great way for all this talent coming from ROH stand out and would be a huge smack in the face to ROH showing them who is in control.
The final piece of news this week is that Asuka could finally lose her title at Brooklyn and for the first time it looks like the odds will be against her. Ember Moon who debuted this time last year was originally meant to win the NXT women’s title in Chicago a couple of months back however due to injury she was unable to perform. Plans may have changed though and they may feel like they want Asuka to hold the title for longer but at this point nobody knows who will win. Some are speculating that Asuka will retain and then relinquish the title at Brooklyn and go to Raw or SDLive still undefeated. It will defiantly be interesting to see where she will go and how she will do when she does go to the main roster considering whatever roster she goes to she will likely be the best on because you cannot deny she is one of the greatest female wrestlers on the planet and hopefully she can help others show how great they are when she fights them. At this point I would have to predict she will end up on the SDLive roster as the Raw female roster is way too full at the moment, especially with Paige returning soon.
