Raw Review
The last few weeks I have been going on and on about how Raw has been improving every week! This week was no exception and yet again it was entertaining however the show also had a few negatives.
The opening segment was booked very well with Roman giving a promo before an ambulance entered the arena. Roman being the babyface he obviously had to look in it presuming he was in there. What I mean by that is more often than not in WWE the faces think only of the obvious and don’t expect surprise attacks unlike heels who normally do the opposite. Anyway Braun then attacked Roman in what was a good brawl which in my opinion was a great segment to hype up their match at Great Balls Of Fire PPV
We then had a the much advertised and anticipated Miz TV with the huge special guest Lonzo Ball who was one of the first draft picks in the NBA draft the other week (a friend who watches NBA told me). I don’t even know where I am going to start with how bad this segment was. First off basketball is mainly just a sport in the US and is hardly big anywhere else unlike American Football so most of us international viewers had no clue what was going on! His Dad came out instead of him and as far as we knew that was the No.1 draft pick in the NBA! Although not gonna lie he did look a little old for the NBA. He then introduced his son but two of them came out! I had no clue which one was which until later when I did some research. Now onto how bad the actual segment was. The first issue was that the Dad blatantly stole his sons spotlight and not trying to be offensive here but I really couldn’t understand a word he was saying! Now onto the issue that he made racial comments during the segment! Which is unacceptable! Let’s look at it like this, your son gets invited onto Raw and invites you, you then steal his spotlight and make the segment about you instead, and then to make matters worse you make offensive comments! Words can’t even describe how bad this was. Only real bad part of Raw this week.
We then had the most confusing segment of the night! Enzo Amore came out and called out Cass and gave him a whole speech about how they should just become friends. Enzo’s promo was actually fairly good and he really did make it seem real which can be very hard to do, especially in this situation. Cass then said he stands by what he said last week but said what he did last week was wrong and he apologised and said they are both brothers again! Cass made this seem so real I actually thought that it was and that it was the worst booking ever. However after they hugged and did the SAWFT thing and the crowed got all hyped, Cass gave Enzo a lethal clothesline! This segment was really good and was played well by both. It will definitely be interesting to see how this rivalry continues because I seriously doubt we will be able to see Big Cass vs Enzo Amore.
Next we saw Paul Heyman give a speech about how Joe is acting like he is scared by Lesnar because of all the cheap shots he has been giving, and told him he needs to start fearing him. Lesnar then came out and Joe came from behind and locked Lesnar in the coquina clutch. Lesnar escaped and they broke out into a brawl before they both got separated. This segment was enjoyable and it’s good to see that WWE are trying to build this match up the best they can by limiting how much contact they are having with each other and saving it for the PPV yet still showing that they both want to brutally destroy each other.
We then got to see the first ever women’s gauntlet match which quite frankly should have been called Nia Jax destroys 4 women making them look like jobbers match. Sasha entered last and managed to beat Sasha in what was an alright match which made Nia look powerful and made Sasha also look very strong.
As I previously said, this weeks Raw was a very good show and was the exact thing we should be seeing every week!
SDLive review
This weeks SDLive was the best in a few weeks after the poor recent episodes
Carmella opened the night with an amazing heel promo yet again showing she is great on the mic. The crowd were seriously against her which is also a great thing considering she is a heel who can wrestle.
The Hype Bros lost clean to The Usos which I found a bit strange considering it completely kills the Hype Bros as a tag team and Naomi destroyed Lana making her look weak as well.
Orton then came out demanding a rematch which Shane McMahon the gave him but told Orton that Jinder could choose the match type. Jinder then came out and announced that it will be in a Punjabi Prison. This stipulation had the potential to be great and could really go down in history after the last two Punjabi Prison matches haven’t been that great.
The main event women’s MITB rematch was better than their first in my opinion. Carmella yet again won and it was the right decision as, as I said the first time, she deserved it the most. The rematch still should have never happened though as it completely destroyed the first women’s in the bank ladder match!
Weekly News
The first news this week is that according the Wrestling Observer Newsletter this week, The Summerslam main event which was originally mean to be Braun vs Lesnar has now been changed to Lesnar vs Reigns. The match as we all know was meant to take place at Mania 34 but because of the drop in ratings WWE want a more regular champion on Raw. He also noted that Joe could be added to the Summerslam match.
The G1 blocks were also announced this week (to see the full blocks visit my IG @wrestlingrepublic where I did a post about it). Kota Ibushi was the surprise announcement for block A but block B is where the big news is. Omega and Okada are both in block B which means they will be having a match sometime in the tournament. In my opinion this was a terrible decision and the two should have ever faced each other in the final or even saved it for Wrestle Kingdom.
Finally this week we have the news that there was a huge backstage heat this week after the Miz TV segment. It apparently involved a ton of cursing between several high up WWE figures and the Ball family! I think it’s safe to say we won’t be seeing them on WWE television anytime soon!
