This week has been such a busy week in wrestling where we have seen a truly epic episode of Lucha Underground including the Quato cup final and Mundo vs Mysterio, AAA biggest show of the year TripleMania and the WCPW World Cup Finals.
TripleMania 25 was the biggest show in Mexico in years. Dr Wagner who is a massive masked legend in Mexico was putting his mask on the line in a mask vs mask match against Psycho Clown. A lot of people had worked out that because of Wagner’s age he would lose the match and earlier in the day the result leaked after a poster for a future wrestling event in Mexico was released and an unmasked Wagner was advertised for the show. In the end Wagner did lose his mask after years of being the masked face of Mexico.
Kushida beat Will Ospreay in the final of the WCPW World Cup which was a huge shock considering we saw this match in the best of super Jr’s final in Japan earlier this year and Kushida won that and honesty this match wasn’t even as good as their match in Japan. I personally really enjoyed the tournament but the ending was a huge let down.
On Raw this week John Cena and Roman Reigns had one of the best segments in a long time on WWE Television which essentially buried Reigns. All of the segment was scripted except for the part where Reigns stumbled and forgot what he was meant to say. A lot of people are wondering why this match is being rushed into so fast and the reason for this is reportedly because after Cena suffered the head bump against Nakamura on SDLive a few weeks ago Transformers have said they don’t want Cena fighting while they are shooting the film which would mean Cena won’t be back in action after No Mercy until the end of December or early January, and the reason they won’t just delay this huge match until the Royal Rumble is because John Cena is going to go back to SDLive when he returns and defeat Mahal for the WWE championship at the Royal Rumble according to the Dirty Sheets on YouTube. The original plan was actually for Reigns and Cena to team up and defeat Rollins and Ambrose for the tag titles at No Mercy and then lose the titles back to them at TLC which would lead to Reigns vs Cena at Survivor Series.
Dolph Ziggler is expected to be Bobby Roode’s first rivalry and probably Ziggler’s last as he is expected to be leaving the company when his contract end in October. Ziggler reportedly wants to go to Japan and ROH and do a similar thing to Cody and test his real ability.
The reason Rusev is currently in no big feud and they are just adding him to matches to be pinned is because his future with the company is still up in the air after Rusev handed in a release request before SummerSlam. Lana is expected to stay with the company for a while longer.
The UK Show still has no confirmed start date but will start before the end of 2017 according to the Wrestling Observer. It was originally meant to start filming in June but it was delayed for two reasons. The first being the UK Tournament actually cost more money than they got for the tournament so they have been very worried that a weekly show could have the same issue. The second reason is that the entire reason they did the tournament was to make sure ITV’s WOS Wrestling which was meant to start in the summer wouldn’t become as big as it was expected to be and that’s why they signed some of their talent and Jim Ross who was meant to call all the episodes. Due to WWE doing this ITV delayed the tapings and at one point it was thought the show wasn’t even going to happen but now the plans are expected to be back on meaning we will have a UK Wrestling war between WWE UK and WOS Wrestling which is ironically in association and partly funded by WWE’s main rival Anthem.
This week on the WWE Network all four episodes of the Mae Young Classic’s first round were released. Every episode is four matches long and the typical length of an episode is about 45 minutes.
According to Dave Meltzer, Batista is in talks to headline this year’s Hall Of Fame class.
Chris Jericho in his latest book (No is a four letter word) talked about how he was furious when Vince told him that he would be facing Fandango at WrestleMania 29 just 5 weeks before the match. Jericho was originally meant to face Ryback in a match Jericho had asked for before Vince decided he wanted Ryback to face Mark Henry. Jericho presumed he was going to beat Fandango despite the fact Vince actually told him on the original call but Jericho was so shocked he was facing Fandango he misheard what Vince said. Jericho also wrote about how Fandango’s gimmick was originally based on Jericho telling Vince how hard it really was to be a dancer after going on Dancing With The Stars and Vince actually had big plans for Fandango but after a few months Vince gave up with the gimmick. Jericho however did complement Fandango and said he is a great worker.
