WWE Extreme Rules 2017 Predictions
Hello Misfits! This is The Wrestling Classic here with my predictions for this Sunday’s Extreme Rules. It’s usually dubbed the most extreme night of the year because each match is strapped with an extreme stipulation. However only two or three of these matches have stipulations that could be considered extreme. Don’t get me wrong though, I’m not complaining because extreme or not, this card is stacked. This is a Raw exclusive PPV with Smackdown scoring Money in the Bank this year. The fact that there are only six announced matches, it makes me feel every match is going to get a solid amount of time. This to me shows that each match has the potential to be great because they have the time. I don’t have my hopes too high but I definitely see the potential. 4 out of the 5 titles on Raw are being defended, while 5 men battle in the main event to become number one contender for the absent Universal Championship, which is held by Brock Lesnar. I am looking forward to this event, but even so, it is difficult to predict for. Lets see my predictions.
Sasha Banks & Rich Swann vs. Noam Dar & Alicia Fox

This was one of those rivalries that seemed to have been thrown together just in the last two or three weeks. Alicia picked up a majorly shocking victory over “The Boss” Sasha Banks on Raw. Next thing I know, they’re feuding and somehow with Noam Dar and Rich Swann getting involved to create this match. It even led to a 205 Live appearance from Sasha Banks. Personally, I wish Sasha Banks was turning heel and facing Bayley…but that could possibly happen later in this show. Sasha Banks has mentioned she wants us fans to shut up about her turning heel but her character lacks as a babyface and has since day one. It was great when she was tweener but the whole BFFL’s thing with Bayley is nauseating. I don’t think Sasha is being buried here at all but I think either the injury to Emma ruined plans or they’re just waiting for around Summerslam to put Banks back into the title picture. Although this rivalry is interesting, it makes me feel bad for the likes of Nia Jax, Mickie James and Dana Brooke who haven’t been appearing on television at all these past few weeks. They could have more than two women’s feud going on and Smackdown is proof of that, being able to do so in just two hours. I mean I would have loved a Sasha Banks and Mickie James feud. Mickie James and Nia Jax? Anyway, all four competitors in this match are talented and athletic as hell, so I do expect a good match. In the end though, I see Banks and Swann going over and dancing to celebrate because I don’t see this rivalry going much further past this event.
Prediction – Sasha Banks & Rich Swann
Submission Match
Cruiserweight Championship
Neville (C) vs. Austin Aries
Image via WWE.com
These two have been feuding since Wrestlemania and Neville has been able to overcome Austin Aries every time with some sort shenanigans being a part of it. Every month in my predictions I mentioned how I wanted Neville to have a lengthier reign to further validate his “King of the Cruiserweight’s” gimmick. I predicted that Neville wouldn’t drop the championship until he was involved in a fatal four way or multi-man match where he doesn’t take the fall. I still strongly believe thats going to happen. Although, I feel like Aries can only lose to Neville so many times before we just start believing he can’t overcome him. I mean there is the scenario that Aries is the one that walks out of the hypothetical multi-man match at “Great Balls of Fire” or something and then beats Neville in a match defending the title against him in the future but the stipulation of this match is really what catches me off guard. This could be the match where Neville introduces a new submission finisher or Aries last chancery finally earns him a long deserved victory crowning him the Cruiserweight Champion. I think just to go with my gut here, I predict that Aries goes over.
Prediction – Austin Aries
Kendo Stick on a Pole Match
Women’s Championship
Alexa Bliss (C) vs. Bayley

Two women, one pole and one kendo stick. Sounds intriguing eh? I think Vince Russo would agree. It’s the Champion Alexa Bliss defending her Women’s Championship against the former champion Bayley. Alexa Bliss who got to get over as a heel and built her character over months on the main roster during her time on Smackdown Live, which makes her championship reign feel special. Bayley on the other hand, didn’t get the same opportunity to get over with the fans on the main roster or build her character gradually but rather we were supposed to remember her NXT history and she was shot the WWE Women’s Championship spot way too early in my mind. Due to that I want to see Alexa Bliss beat the living crap out of Bayley with a kendo stick so the fans on the main roster can finally feel bad for her because right now we have no reason to feel bad for Bayley or think of her as an underdog. It was those qualities that made us get behind her on NXT so strongly whereas on Raw she basically showed up, was good, ended Charlotte’s PPV streak, is already a two time Women’s Champion and defeated four women at Wrestlemania. Okay? Alexa Bliss is the perfect heel for us to feel sympathy for Bayley because Alexa Bliss is that mean girl bitch. Let Alexa Bliss go over and be the one that beats character into Bayley. I predict Alexa Bliss goes over and its not just because I’m a huge fan of her but I want character progression in Bayley.
Prediction – Alexa Bliss
Cage Match
Tag Team Championship
The Hardy Boyz (C) vs. Cesaro & Sheamus
Image via WWE.com
Once again Cesaro and Sheamus meet against The Hardy Boyz to kill this nostalgia act and prove that they are not just the present but the future and that The Hardy Boyz are a thing of the past. I still think Sheamus and Cesaro are only together because the Raw writers had nothing better for them to do. Overtime, they’ve really grown on me as a team and really gelled together. This off tag team pairing made me like Sheamus more than I ever have his entire career. Also as great as we already know Cesaro is, I just hope this doesn’t end up with him being remembered as a tag team specialist because I think he has ton of potential as a singles star. The Hardy Boyz are the Hardy Boyz. I like them and always have liked them as a team. They bring the best out of each other. As single stars I always found Matt Hardy more charismatic as portraying characters than Jeff. I actually don’t find Jeff Hardy as a singles star that entertaining at all but thats besides the point right now. The stipulation for this match is a steel a cage match. I do expect this match to be fast pace and hard hitting but in the end I see a Swanton Bomb from the top and the Hardy’s picking up the victory to everyones joy. I think we’ll have to wait to “Great Balls of Fire” or even Summerslam before we see The Hardyz lose the titles and move forward. As for Sheamus and Cesaro, I don’t think they’re out of the title picture yet but I do see another team being included…the Revival.
Prediction – The Hardy Boyz
Intercontinental Championship
Dean Ambrose (C) vs. The Miz w/ Maryse
Image via WWE.com
If Dean Ambrose is disqualified he still loses the title. This stipulation creates great potential for these two mean who got themselves super over on Smackdown this past year but now are wrestling each other on Raw. I think in the past year The Miz has brought out the best in a lot of his opponents. I think we can all agree that Miz isn’t the greatest wrestler but he’s such a good heel character that we hate when we see him with the upper-hand and we loved when he’s getting ass kicked. Dean Ambrose is the ultimate good guy which all fans are behind. They could really play up his Lunatic gimmick here, with him trying not to get himself disqualified, losing his mind because Miz keeps on setting up ways for Ambrose to make that mistake. I think this match will tell a fun story and these two won’t hold nothing back in the ring. If the Intercontinental Championship is the workhorse title, than these two men are fitting to be fighting over it. Although, Ambrose’s reign as IC Champion has been quite bland and it would be nice to see it switch hands so Ambrose can find his fire again. I feel like every time Ambrose wins a championship, he loses a little fire. What a better way to light a fire than have The Miz be the one who defeats him for the championship? I wonder if “The Drifter” Elias Samson will find a way to get involved.
Prediction – The Miz
Extreme Rules Fatal Five-Way Match to become #1 Contender for the Universal Championship
Bray Wyatt vs. Seth Rollins vs. Roman Reigns vs. Finn Balor vs. Samoa Joe
Image via WWE.com
This match is the result of Braun Strowman being injured. I feel like if Strowman hadn’t been injured we would have had Reigns vs Strowman in a Ambulance Match. Seth Rollins would again face Samoa Joe and Finn Balor and Bray Wyatt would kick off their one-on-one feud starting on this event, featuring matches with a stipulations. The word also was that Strowman would face Brock Lesnar next month at “Great Balls of Fire.” However, with Strowman getting hurt and the champion being a part-timer the smartest route to go was to book a match naming the new number one contender for Brock Lesnar to defend his title against at next months PPV. I think this match is going to be amazing and possibly the MOTN. I predict a ton of cool spots and near falls. It is an “Extreme Rules” match which means the inclusion of weapons and hardcore wrestling. If you factor in the vast amount of talent and characters involved in this match, I’d be shocked if this match was a let down. Now moving forward with my prediction, I feel like they’re holding off on Reigns facing Brock Lensar again until next years Wrestlemania or later in this Summer. Therefore, I rule out Roman Reigns going over in this match even though he’s looked the strongest coming into it. I would never be disappointed in seeing Seth Rollins take on Brock Lesnar, but for some reason I just don’t feel like that is going to happen. I feel like when Seth goes after the title, his focus should only be on the championship and I still feel like there is unfinished business between Rollins and Joe. Joe vs Lesnar would be fucking amazing, but it seems like something I would build up in a different fashion that would garner more hype than Joe just winning the opportunity to face him. As for Bray Wyatt, I’d love to see Wyatt face Brock. It’s something I wanted back in the Summer of 2014 and something I’d still enjoy watching today, but I don’t think it tells that david and goliath story. I feel a Wyatt/Lesnar feud would be more suited for when Lesnar is not the champion. That only leaves Finn Balor. Recently, we saw Finn Balor cut a promo with Heyman on Raw which kind of foreshadowed the possible match. Also the night following Wrestlemania the fans chanted Balor’s name expecting him to make his big return to challenge Lesnar for the championship belt that he never lost. I don’t see these two feuding in the future for any other reason other then being Champion. I also think that Wyatt/Balor feud could be put on pause until Wyatt becomes the reason Balor couldn’t overcome Lesnar, thus continuing their rivalry after “Great Balls of Fire.” I think this has to be Balor’s first big win since returning and he deserves his rematch for the championship he was forced to relinquish. I stand by Finn Balor.
Prediction – Finn Balor
