WWE Money in the Bank Predictions
It has been years ever since the match that was a staple to Wrestlemania for a handful of years became big enough to have it own PPV, yet the PPV continues to over deliver. That match is the Money in the Bank and that PPV is named after the match. The Money in the Bank match is a ladder match where a briefcase hangs above the ring. Inside that briefcase is a contract to challenge the World Champion any time in within the next year. This whole scenario makes the match so important and the stipulation creates so much drama and suspense for the rest of the year. However, similar to previous years, the other main events elevate this PPV to be one of the most must watched events on the year. AJ Styles and John Cena for the first time ever. Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns finally clash. I don’t know about you but this years Money in the Bank has the potential to be the best PPV of 2016 thus far, even more so than Wrestlemania.

The Lucha Dragons vs. The Dudleys

This match will be on the kick-off show, and to be honest I don’t really care for it much. I do think its cool that the tag division is really strong right now. There are eight tag teams featured on this show over all and that’s not even every tag team on the roster. I feel like this could be a fun little match though. The Dudley’s are one of the most legendary and decorated teams in professional wrestling. It still kind of bothers me they haven’t won the tag titles since they’ve returned to the WWE and I dislike their spot on the roster mainly featured on kick off shows for PPV’s. However, I understand that they are the perfect veteran’s to help elevate todays tag teams and still be considered a serious threat to anyone. Therefore to continue to be a serious threat, they need to pick up some wins. On the other hand, The Lucha Dragons are focused as a tag team again, after Kalisto had successful singles run as the US Champion. I was not a huge fan Kalisto as US Champion, but I do like the Lucha Dragons as a tag team and see them as future champions. In that case, to start that momentum for the Lucha Dragons and maybe carry on this feud with the Dudley’s for a couple of months, The Lucha Dragons have to pick up the win here.
Prediction – The Lucha Dragons win.
Golden Truth vs. Fandango & Tyler Breeze
Image via WWE.com
In another kick off tag match, The Golden Truth take on Fandango and Tyler Breeze. Golden Truth is reminiscent to Goldust and Booker T to me, and already have had some of the best comedic moments on WWE television in recent history. Fandango and Breeze are the perfect pairing, and something I would have booked in my WWE Universe in a 2K game. They have similar gimmicks, and together they are the Zealander and Hansel of the WWE. Logically, you’d see Golden Truth pick up the victory because they have already lost to Fandango and Breeze. However I make this predictions as if I was fantasy booking, therefore I would have Breeze and Fandango pick up the victory. I feel as if they have more potential as a tag team than Truth and Goldust. Even though my gut is saying Truth and Goldust win, my heart wants Breezdango to win.
Prediction – Fandango & Tyler Breeze pick up the win.
US Championship
Rusev w/ Lana (C) vs. Titus O Neil
Image via WWE.com
Finally after a long period of botched storylines and being part of a semi dominant heel stable, Rusev is once again a dominant force in the WWE with finance Lana on his side. On top of that he is the United States Champion, once again. It’s the Rusev that everyone missed, even if you weren’t a huge Rusev fan. Tonight he defends his US title against a very deserving Titus O Neil. I know it feels sort of underwhelming that Rusev’s first major defence is against Titus, since Titus hasn’t done much since being one half of the Prime Time Player’s but Titus sure does deserve it. Titus is one of the most underrated superstars on the roster, and a superstar who does a lot of positive work outside the WWE for charities and what not. Although, I think Titus is deserving of this shot, and in my mind potential to be a future champion, tonight is not the night. Rusev is finally the Rusev we love again and they need to continue to build him as dominant force and important champion, heading towards the Brand Extension. The champion and the championship need to be important and relevant, Rusev can do that and I’m not sure Titus is there yet.
Prediction – Rusev picks up the win a competitive match.
Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin
Image via WWE.com
In yet another rematch between these two, my opinion doesn’t change. Baron Corbin needs to come out on top of this feud and Ziggler doesn’t. Yet, Ziggler is the perfect person to make Corbin look good. This feud has become about technical wrestling over brawling or No DQ rules, so I’d assume Ziggler is going to try to make Corbin wrestle a technical match, yet Corbin being a heel will find a way to pick up a win against Ziggler by somehow bending the rules. I would have Corbin continue the beat down after the match, making him a more force to reckoned with until his next rival appears to try to stop his unethical ways. Ziggler needs to move on, hopefully feuding with someone new. I really don’t want to see another Ziggler/Corbin match.
Prediction – Baron Corbin wins and beats down Ziggler after the match.
Apollo Crews vs. Sheamus
Image via WWE.com
In a match that is meant to be the New Era star facing off against the previous Era’s star, only leaves you thinking the New Era star needs to stand tall. Apollo needs this more than Sheamus. Seamus is already a mult-time WWE World Champion and also decorated with many other title reigns and accolades. Apollo is a fresh face to the main roster. Seamus losing doesn’t even hurt Sheamus as he’s not in a position where he would be losing anything. Apollo has everything to gain. I would actually see this feud continuing as well. I say Apollo picks up the win here and Sheamus loses his shit. The Celtic Warrior who believes he is being overlooked because of these New Era stars, so losing to one of them at such a big event is the perfect recipe for a destructive future. Apollo walks out smiling with his hand raised, and Sheamus seeks vengeance. I dig it.
Prediction – Apollo Crews wins.
Charlotte & Dana Brooke vs. Natalya & Becky Lynch
Image via WWE.com
This match and the tag team of Natalya and Becky Lynch get my passionate ambition and desire for Women’s tag team titles even stronger. Imagine Becky Lynch and Natalya winning a tournament that comes to conclusion at Summerslam crowning them the first ever Women’s tag team champions. Oh, how amazing that would be. Anyway, before I have a wrestling orgasm about that, lets talk about the match for Money in the Bank. The Charlotte/Natalya saga continues. Although all of their matches ended with screwy finishes, which meant we weren’t left with any real classics that compare to their bouts on NXT, the two really do work great with each other. Add the Irish Lasskicker in the mixture and it makes it even better. I still don’t know how I feel about Dana. The most obvious thing to notice here is that the Women’s Title is not on the line in any way necessary, therefore Charlotte losing tonight is a possibility. We’ve seen Charlotte pick up losses when the belt isn’t on the line and she doesn’t have to cheat or do anything in her power to win. Most recently we’ve seen Charlotte pick up a loss on Raw against Paige in a non title match due to miscommunication with Dana Brooke. I feel the same thing happens tonight and Charlotte and Dana pick up the loss due to miscommunication between the two new allies. Plus, it would make Becky and Natalya look strong going into the future Women’s Tag Title tournament….I can wish. My only fear is that this might lead to Dana Brooke/Charlotte feud, which I hope they hold off until Charlotte actually loses the title because I am still really hoping for Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks at Summerslam.
Prediction – Natalya and Becky Lynch pick up the win for being better allies.
Fatal Four Way Tag Team Championship
The New Day (C) vs. Enzo Amore & Cass vs. The VaudeVillians vs. The Club
Image via WWE.com
It almost feels as if the New Day have been tag team champions for like two years. I actually have to take a moment to think before remembering who they defeated for the titles because it feels like it was so long ago. In some sense, it just feels so natural as tag team champions and would feel odd if they lost them. Whether everyone is on board with their over the top antics and pop culture references, the New Day is still the most over tag team if not the most over act over all in the WWE today. However, during their lengthy tag team title reign, the tag team division has gotten a huge makeover. All three teams facing the New Day tonight debuted on the main roster just this year, and to be honest I am okay with any one of these teams walking out as champions. I feared the Vaude Villan’s bygone era gimmick wouldn’t work on the main roster, but yet it has and they would be the wild card prediction to win this match. If they did however, it would really cement their place on the main roster as a serious threat to the tag division. Enzo and Cass debuted on the main roster by kicking the door down and making their presence felt, quickly becoming fan favourites. The smack talking sky walking Enzo Amore and big bad Colin Cassidy, let their charisma get them over with the crowd, and now are going to let their in ring skill talk for itself if they win tonight. The most dominant and destructive team has to be The Club members Anderson and Gallows. The two have been controversial since their debut aiding their buddy AJ Styles whenever needed, but now have their focus on tag team championships. They are the biggest threat in the tag division today in my mind, and they don’t have to be pinned to lose this match. Finally, there is the New Day, they could do what they’ve done for months now and that is find a way to retain their belts and continue being the most over team of the New Era. If history tells us anything, it can very likely happen. The Vaude Villans winning will really elevate them. I want Gallows and Anderson to win. It would be cool if Enzo and Cass win and I wouldn’t be surprised if New Day retained. I think Enzo and Cass win and feud with the New Day continues. Gallows and Anderson will be tag team champions by the end of this year but they still have bigger plans with Styles or possibly Balor in my mid.
Prediction – Enzo & Cass
Money in the Bank Ladder Match
Chris Jericho vs. Cesaro vs. Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Alberto Del Rio
Image via WWE.com
One of the most anticipated matches of the year, the Money in the Bank ladder match which guarantees the winner a shot at the WWE World Champion whenever they please within the next year. Thus far, there has only been one unsuccessful cash in, therefore proving that the MITB could lead to putting your name in the history books as a World Champion and truly is Money in the Bank. I personally think everybody in this match could be potential World Champion in the future. Only two of the participants have been former World Champions, in Del Rio and the legendary Chris Jericho. Therefore, this is a huge opportunity for the other four participants. The question you got to ask is, who do you want as Mr. Money in the Bank? It’s true that the winner could cash in tonight or any time really soon. Most of the time though, the winner hangs on to the briefcase for the better half the year creating suspense in the WWE Universe. If that was the case, who would be more entertaining with the briefcase than Mr. Entertainment himself Kevin Owens?
Yes, I believe Ambrose is a future World Champion but he’ll get an opportunity again like he has before. Yes, Cesaro deserves it but I don’t think the WWE will take that leap of faith, and put the belt on Cesaro anytime in the near future. Yes, Jericho should win a MITB match at least once in his career but he doesn’t need to and he doesn’t need a briefcase to be a threat to the World Title. Del Rio could win it but I don’t see Del Rio as a World Champion again in this New Era. Zayn would be an amazing winner, but I think Zayn would be better off chasing the title through an underdog story where he fights for his shot at the title. Kevin Owen’s in my mind is the perfect choice at this particular time. He’d be hilarious with the briefcase and his fake out’s would be entertaining. Imagine Owen’s music hitting for a cash in, the crowd would pop.
Prediction – Kevin Owens becomes the new Mr. Money in the Bank.
John Cena vs. AJ Styles
Image via WWE.com
Mr. WWE vs. Mr. TNA, is the way many of us see it. Yes, TNA may seem like a sinking ship, but just like WCW, it had its glory days. In those Glory Days, AJ Styles was the man. AJ Styles was the franchise player of TNA Wrestling , whereas John Cena is the franchise player of the WWE. The major difference between the two of them is that John Cena is WWE through and through, whereas Styles left TNA and cemented his name in the wrestling world like the legends before him wrestling all around the globe, including in Japan. Cena had the most popular and globally known machine in the wrestling industry behind him. Unlike AJ Styles where The Phenomenal One made AJ Styles a star himself. John Cena may have been a champion in the WWE but AJ Styles was a champion all around the world. I never thought the two of them would be in the same ring against each other. When AJ Styles entered the Royal Rumble, I automatically thought of the possibilities of dream matches. Styles vs. Cena was easily on my list of dream matches for AJ to have during his WWE career.
The question is now, who needs to go over in this match in the end? In situations like this everyone knows the match is going to amazing enough, that regardless the winner both guys will be leaving more over. Therefore, let me rephrase that question, who do I want to win this match? My answer automatically goes to AJ Styles. I want AJ Styles to win, because he needs it more. AJ spent the last two moths facing Roman Reigns and not walking out victorious. AJ Styles also lost in his first ever Wrestlemania match against Chris Jericho. AJ Styles hasn’t won a big match in the past three months and he needs a win. Hell he deserves it. He gave Roman Reigns two of Roman’s best matches. Styles has mega star for the WWE written all over him. There is no one better to defeat in a classic match to capitalize on that potential to be mega star than John Cena. Cena absolutely doesn’t need this win and he loses nothing if he loses, but Styles has everything to gain. I would love to see the Club not get involved in this match, but Styles being a heel now, the possibility of them showing up is very likely. I know WWE does 50/50 booking and we’re most likely going to see a rematch, but I’d rather have AJ Styles pick up this win and both men move on until they revisit this rivalry later in the year or next year.
Prediction – AJ Styles defeats John Cena.
WWE World Championship
Roman Reigns (C) vs. Seth Rollins
Image via WWE.com
In the match that almost happened twice in the past two years but didn’t due to injuries, its Seth Rollins vs Roman Reigns. It was one of the matches people looked forward to on a big event since Rollins turned on the Shield by taking a chair to Reign’s back. The first time it was supposed to happen, Seth was Mr. Money in the Bank and Reigns was a hungry singles star, but Reigns ended up getting injured with a hernia injury and then returning to win the Royal Rumble. He went to Wrestlemania to face Lesnar for the WWE Championship, but the spotlight was stolen from Reigns when Rollins came out and cashed in his MITB, to make the match a Triple Threat and become the new WWE World Champion. They met a bunch of times in Fatal Four Way and tag matches but never one on one. When it was finally going to go down at Survivor Series last year, Seth suffered a knee injury in a freak accident during a match at a live show on November 4th, 2015. Roman never got his revenge for Rollins stabbing him in the back and breaking up the Shield. Roman never got his revenge for Rollins stealing his spotlight at Wrestlemania by cashing in his Money in the Bank. Reigns reached ultimate success once Rollins was out of the picture. Now Rollins is back and healthy and Reigns is healthy and the WWE World Champion. An accolade that Rollins believes he never lost but was forced to forfeit.
In my mind, I know the WWE isn’t ready to take the belt off Reigns but I really want Rollins to win. This match can go in so many different directions. I still believe and judging from the crowd reaction as well, Rollins is the babyface here and Reigns is the heel. It’s the perfect opportunity for a double turn but I don’t think he WWE will go in that direction because they strongly believe Reigns is the future and the kids keep buying his merchandise. Another opportunity here is for a cash in to happen to ruin the ending of this match, thus having it saved for another big event in the future. Imagine, Ambrose happens to win the MITB and cashes in during a match between his two former Shield brothers. What if the Game returns? Seth Rollins used to be Triple H’s protegé and we havent seen the Game since he lost the title to Reigns at Wrestlemania. Could this be another layer in the battle of control between the McMahon’s? Maybe we just get a really good match between the two with a straight ending with no drama or turns, but I strongly don’t see that happening. It’s the perfect event and time of the year for something big to happen before Summerslam. My heart wants The Man Seth Rollins to win, but my gut is saying Reigns retains because you….he’s “the guy”. Please let me be wrong.
Prediction – Roman Reigns wins because thats what the WWE wants.
That is it for my Money in the Bank predictions. Let me know what you think and feel free to share your predictions. We are only hours away from the show. Dig it?!
