WWE Summerslam 2018 Predictions
Hello Misfits! This is The Wrestling Classic here with my predictions for this Sunday’s Summerslam. It is the biggest event of the Summer and they are back in Brooklyn once again. The card is stacked but I still don’t know if it’ll be better than NXT Takeover which will take place the night before. There are a lot of big and popular names missing from this card such as Sasha Banks, Bayley, The Bar, The Usos, Riott Squad, Asuka and SanIty to name a few. However, there are a lot of matches I am looking forward to on this card. At the same time, there are a ton of matches I could care less about on this card as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if this ends up being another one of those 5 hour shows. There are thirteen announced matches as well as an Elias performance. My expectations aren’t that high for this show but that makes me believe that it’ll definitely be better than my expectations. I’ll explain further with my predictions so lets get to them.
Rusev & Lana vs. Adrade “Cien” Almas & Zelina Vega

This match will be on kick-off which honestly is just apart of the show if you ask me. Its fun for me that the two guys that most people say I look like are in the same match. It still sucks that Almas and Vega are being used to further progress an angle involving Rusev, Lana and English. Rusev Day hit its peak when Rusev got a shot at the WWE Championship. However, he failed to win due to miscommunication with English. Therefore, I think they need to further that angle. I expect English come out here and cause Lana and Rusev the match only to further their break-up angle. If that is the case, I see Zelina Vega and Almas picking up the victory here and moving on to bigger things instead of being pawns to an angle that barley involves them. I do think this will be a fun match but Almas and Vega for the win, as trouble continues to brew in the Rusev Day camp.
Prediction – Andrade “Cien” Almas and Zelina Vega
Cruiserweight Championship
Cedric Alexander (C) vs. Drew Gulak
Image via WWE.com
Cedric Alexander faces off against his newest challenger and threat to his Cruiserweight Championship Drew Gulak. Gulag with all his “no fly zone” antics will make this match creatively fun considering Alexander is known to fly. I’ll be rooting for Gulak to win but I think it’s too early to take the belt off Alexander. This could end up being the best match of the night but we’ll have to wait and see.
Prediction – Cedric Alexander
Finn Balor vs. Constable Corbin
Image via WWE.com
In recent months, Constable Corbin has been a pain in Finn Balor’s ass. He’s even picked up some victories against Finn in both singles and tag matches. In singles matches they are tied 1-1 and this is the rubber match. As per usual I expect and want Finn Balor to go over. He needs it. Suffering a loss to Corbin hurts Balor’s stock. However, a win for Corbin again would move him up in the ranks. Although, with this new Constable gimmick I dont think Corbin needs to be climbing up the ranks. Finn Balor gets this big win and the crowd leaves this match happy.
Prediction – Finn Balor
Smackdown Tag Team Championship
The Bludgeon Brothers (C) vs. The New Day
Image via WWE.com
I would have really preferred to have had The Club, The Bar or two members of SanIty in this spot but instead we get The New Day as the number one contenders again. I would have even preferred The Usos again. It’s not like I dislike The New Day, but we’ve seen it before and I really dont care to see The New Day as the tag team champions again. There is this pool of great tag teams and they’re getting this opportunity again. They know how to stay over without the tag titles and without the opportunties so it bothers me a little. If this was a multi-team match including some of the other teams, I would be more excited for it and okay with The New Day being involved. I dont think the New Day should be the team to end the reign of terror that the Bludgeon Brothers have been having so I predict the Bludgeon Brothers retain.
Prediction – The Bludgeon Brothers
Raw Tag Team Championship
The B Team (C) vs. The Revival
Image via WWE.com
The cinderella story for the B-Team continues as they head into Summerslam. This time around they are challenged by The Revival. Ironically, it is Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder that really need a revival. They were a force that couldn’t be stopped in NXT but since their main roster debut, they haven’t lived up to the hype they came up with. The untimely injuries and poor creative have really hurt them. There is no place better than Summerslam for them to begin their Ascension back to the top and reminding everyone just why there was so much hype surrounding the Revival when they made their main roster debut. I dig the B-Team but their luck has to run out at some point.
Prediction – The Revival
Triple Threat
Smackdown Women’s Championship
Carmella (C) vs. Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair
Image via WWE.com
The match that should have been a singles match between Becky Lynch and Carmella in my mind is now a triple threat involving Charlotte Flair as well. It’s not that I have anything against Charlotte Flair but I really wanted Becky Lynch to have her moment whether she won or lost without Charlotte being in the picture. When I fantasy booked for Becky Lynch on my Squared Circle DNA podcast, I played out a scenario where Becky Lynch would have her moment and then Charlotte would return into the picture. I’m recapping this because I wanted to make it clear, that I too think that a Becky/Charlotte feud is on the horizon but I did not expect them to jump into it so soon. I would rather have had Becky have her moment first. However, now that Charlotte and Becky are both in the match and their competitive friendship needs to change into competitive tension, I’d have one of them cause the other one the match allowing Carmella to retain the championship. Carmella has more to brag about heading into the first ever Women’s PPV where she meets her ultimate doom.
Prediction – Carmella
Raw Women’s Championship
Alexa Bliss (C) vs. Ronda Rousey
Image via WWE.com
Ronda Rousey finally has the chance to get her hands on Alexa Bliss after months of Little Miss Bliss running away and escaping from her wrath. Bliss became champion by cashing in her MITB briefcase during Rousey’s last championship opportunity and she wants revenge. This time however, there is nobody in Ronda’s way from becoming the Raw Women’s Champion. As much as I would enjoy seeing Bliss find a way to overcome Rousey whether its intentionally getting herself DQ’d or something, I think this is the night that Rowdy Ronda Rousey becomes the Women’s Champion. If it is not this Sunday, it will definitely happen next month at the first ever Women’s PPV but I do think it is inevitable. Brooklyn would love it and the rematch would take place next month.
Prediction – Ronda Rousey
United States Championship
Shinsuke Nakamura (C) vs. Jeff Hardy
Image via WWE.com
It’s been a wild time on Smackdown Live for Brother Nero since he showed up at the draft and its gotten much more crazier for him now that he has the Apex Predator on his tail. Jeff Hardy finally gets his rematch for the United States Championship that he lost to Shinsuke Nakamura. I’m sure these two will give us a helluva match but I know for a fact that the Viper Randy Orton will be lurking around which has me strongly believe that Shinsuke Nakamura will be walking out of Summerslam as the United States Champion. Orton has some sort of obsession with Jeff Hardy and I definitely see him causing Hardy the match and eventually being added back into the United States Championship picture. The King of Strong Style continues to reign supreme.
Prediction – Shinsuke Nakamura
Intercontinental Championship
Dolph Ziggler (C) w/ Drew McIntyre vs. Seth Rollins w/ Dean Ambrose
Image via WWE.com
The return of Dean Ambrose really evens up the odds for Rollins as he tries to regain the Intercontinental Championship from Dolph Ziggler who has the Drew Mcintyre in his corner. These two could steal the show without a doubt. Add all the drama Ambrose and McIntyre can add to the match and this could be unforgettable. The only swerve I see coming here is the one I think a lot of us see…that is Dean Ambrose turning heel. I think we can all see this ending with Ambrose hitting the dirty deeds on Rollins. It’s the perfect time for Ambrose to turn and it would feel fresh. Ambrose has been a babyface since the Shield broke up and he can have multiple different reasons of why he turned right now. Plus, it’s fitting with his new look. The problem is he could help Rollins win and then hit him with it or he could cost Rollins the match. I’d rather go with him costing Rollins the match. I know some people arent down with another Ambrose/Rollins feud but I am. The roles are reversed and they have great chemistry. Dolph Ziggler remains champion and has to worry about his next challenger in someone like Bobby Lashley.
Prediction – Dolph Ziggler
Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz
Image via WWE.com
This is the match we’ve all been waiting for since that infamous Talking Smack segment where The Miz totally trashed a retired Daniel Bryan. We hoped that one day Bryan would be cleared to have a match with The Miz because the story wrote itself. They continued to have tension the entire time Bryan was still the Smackdown GM and they crossed paths. Miz spent the entire year mocking Bryan by using some of his moves such as the “Yes Kicks.” When Bryan was finally cleared to Wrestle prior to Summerslam we all anticipated this match. When Miz joined Smackdown again after the superstar shuffle it felt like it was inevitable. They held off on it for a couple of months until now. I’m not sure how they are planning to continue this rivalry. However, in my opinion the greatest thing they could do here is have The Miz beat Daniel Bryan clean so he can gloat about it for months. Thus avoiding a rematch or trying to face Bryan again until Wrestlemania. This is one of the best rivalries of the last five years and I strongly believe it needs to be capped off at Mania.
Prediction – The Miz
Money in the Bank
Kevin Owens vs. Braun Strowman
Image via WWE.com
Kevin Owens is once again forced to face the Monster Among Men but this time around he has an incentive. If he beats Braun Strowman he will be awarded the Money in the Bank briefcase. Imagine if KO wins and cashes in at the end of Summerslam. This would make this years Summerslam unforgettable and change the landscape of Raw following Summerslam. It would be totally unexpected. Initially many of us groaned at Strowman winning the MITB not because we dislike him but due to the fact that he didn’t need the briefcase to earn a championship title shot. Braun is so over and well booked that we dont question when he’s in the title picture or gets a shot. Owens on the other hand makes a perfect Mr. MITB candidate. The only issue I have here is how do you have Owens defeat the Monster Among Men without killing Brauns momentuem. I really want KO to win and cash in at the end of the night but I think Braun Strowman walks out still the Monster in the Bank.
Prediction – Braun Strowman
WWE Championship
AJ Styles (C) vs. Samoa Joe
Image via WWE.com
I am really looking forward to this one. Two homegrown TNA stars headlining the second biggest PPV on the year for the WWE Championship. I definitely wouldn’t have expected this ten years ago. I dont think I would have imagined this even five years ago. Considering their past matches against each other, I know they have great chemistry. Also considering their both super talented, these two could really put on the match of the night. I do feel like this rivalry felt sort of rushed only kicking off about four weeks ago with not too many face-to-face confrontations. They have tried to make it feel personal by bringing up their friendship over the years and Joe calling out Styles reputation as a father and husband but I still think we’re just getting started between these two. I see these two going at it for the next couple of months for the WWE Championship. Therefore, as of now I think AJ Styles continues this amazing reign as WWE Champion and reminds us all why he is the Phenomenal one by beating Samoa Joe.
Prediction – AJ Styles
Universal Championship
Brock Lesnar (C) w/ Paul Heyman vs. Roman Reigns
Image via WWE.com
I have absolutely no interest in seeing this match again. I really was hoping we would get Lashley vs. Reigns because it would be fresh and different. Plus both guys have a background in MMA and Lashley beating Lesnar would have made a new top star. Instead, Lashley beat Reigns at Extreme Rules only to lose to him on Raw and feud with Elias which didn’t even lead to a match on this card. I even would have been interested in a triple threat between Lashley, Reigns and Lesnar but that wasn’t the case either. Instead we are getting Lesnar and Reigns for the 100th time. I actually like both Lesnar and Reigns but I’m just over this match, None of them stand out to me as better than the other. I mean the finishes have always been great but the actual matches all are forgettable. This should be the match that Reigns finally goes over but this match can go many different ways.
Lets quickly go through them. The first way they can go is Lesnar could surprisingly beat Reigns again which would really throw everyone off. The next thing that could happen is that Lesnar could be close to beating Roman but Heyman pulls out the referee and screws over Lesnar, thus having Reigns turn heel and join Heyman. Another way could be that Reigns beats Lesnar, and then a brawl ensues after the match bringing out Ambrose and Rollins and they triple power bomb Lesnar through a table ridding him from the WWE and sending the crowd home happy. This would also help divert the crowd from booing like crazy if Reigns wins since Brooklyn is a hardcore wrestling crowd. The hardcore wrestling fanbase is very vocal about how they think of Reigns. The last way things could turn out is that Reigns or Lesnar wins the match or during the match, Braun or KO come out and cash in the MITB thus sending the crowd home happy with a new Universal Champion. Whether it happen while Reigns is finally having his moment or during the match, it would lead to either Braun or KO being champion and I believe the fans can get behind that. All of these scenarios seem possible but what will really happen, we can only find out by tuning in this Sunday.
Regardless if there is a cash-in, I think Roman Reigns beats Lesnar though so we can finally end this title reign of Lesnar and finally put a bow on this whole Reigns/Lesnar feud that has been off and on since 2015.
Prediction – Roman Reigns

Great predictions man, Alma’s and Vegavwin for sure Alexander’ is to good for Gulak I’d like to see Murphy’ next up for the title, hopefully Demon King Balor comes out and destroys Corbin Finn needs the title or a title.Bludgeon Brothers have a had a great run and it will continue Revival win because they deserve it Bo and Axel have been great to I think Charlotte wins and Becky turns on her after saying she stole her chance at the title and snaps maybe Rousey wins by dq and Bliss retains I could see Nakamura winning to but love Jeff Hardy hopefully Rollins retains and Ambrose turns Bryan and Miz is a toss up for me Miz needs a win and Bryan needs to stay hot right now, Hopefully this is a great match but Strowman continues his dominance and hopefully cashed in later on, Can’t wait for Styles vs Joe personally going to steal the show Styles retains rematch at hell in a.cell maybe, Roman Wins Braun or KO cash in or on raw
