Smackdown Review 06/26/2020
Hello! Welcome back to this weeks Smackdown review. Tonight’s show coming to us from the WWE performance center is going to be interesting. Due to recent events, this will be a Undertaker tribute show, with some matches. Nothing has been announced, and everything that was supposed to happen, was cancelled. So, let’s see how this goes. Lets get into it.
Live from the WWE Performance Center
Smackdown kicks off with a undertaker tribute video package, followed by all the superstars around the ring chanting “Thank You Taker”. We then see video recap from Undertaker’s debut.
⁃ Multiple WWE Superstars and legends speak about the impact of undertaker.
⁃ They show the Boneyard Match from Wrestlemania.
Baron Corbin Promo
Baron Corbin is standing in the ring after. He says Undertaker is just an old bag of bones. A shell of what he used to be, he says Taker can kiss his ass, and he sucks just putting down undertaker verbally here. Suddenly, Jeff Hardy attacks King Corbin from behind and sends running.
⁃ More legends talking about Undertakers work ethic in the ring.
⁃ Jeff Hardy was backstage being interviewed. He says Undertaker was a mentor to him. He praises undertaker and says that tonight, he’s going to deliver a message of respect from Undertaker to Baron Corbin.
⁃ Bayley & Sasha are on commentary for the next match.
Alexa Bliss vs. Nikki Cross vs. Lacey Evans vs. Dana Brooke
#1 Contenders Match
Alexa and Nikki team up right away and take out Dana and Lacey. Right after, Cross rolls up Bliss and tries to get a quick win, but fails. Bliss and Nikki then start to go at it, battling back and forth until Lacey pulls Alexa out of the ring, throwing her into the barricade. Dana tried to get the upper hand on Cross in the meantime, but Lacey puts a stop to it. Solid action between Lacey and Dana here. Dana was showing off some new moves and hit her signature Swanton on Lacey, but Nikki Cross saves the match with a pin-breakup. Dana was knocked out of the ring and the other three women battled it out. Alexa was knocked out of the ring, Dana tried to get back in but was hit with a women’s right, suddenly, Nikki Cross rolled Lacey up from behind and got the win. A super fast match. Nikki will take on Bayley at Extreme Rules.
My Thoughts
That was oddly rushed and felt so fast and so slow at the same time. Cross wins, so she will get a title match at extreme rules. Should be interesting.
New Day & Lucha House Party vs. Miz, John Morrison, Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura
Big E and Miz kicked off this match. Miz playing scared, and trying to escape Big E every chance he had. But, Big E made sure he couldn’t get away. After just mauling Miz, Lince was tagged in who tried to get the upper hand on Miz, but failed. Miz makes the tag to Cesaro. Fun back and forth action between these two, until Metalik was tagged in. Cesaro battled back against Metalik and made a quick tag to Nakamura. This match is so fast paced, as you would imagine. less than a minute from the recent tags, Kofi and Morrison were tagged in. Really feels like they’re just trying to get everyone’s stuff in. Cesaro was tagged in, who tagged Nakamura right back in immediately so they could hit a tag team move. That leads us into commercial break. We come back to see Team Miz in control. Kofi tried to fight back against Miz, but Nakamura was tagged in and made a quick stop to that. Nakamura controlled the match for a bit, until he set up for the Kinsasa, but Kofi reverses it into a stomp. Both men crawled to their corners and made tags to Morrison and Metalik. As you could imagine, great, fast Lucha style action between the two. Then, New Day, Cesaro & Nakamura all brawled into the backstage area. Miz tagged himself in and tried to go after Metalik but caught a kick to the face, followed by a elbow drop. Metalik gets the win for his team.
My Thoughts
Fun match. With all these guys, of course it would be chaotic and very fast. So many tags in and out, but it was fun. Hopefully this win will give Lucha House party a title match. They deserve it.
⁃ Corbin is backstage and says that tonight he will make Jeff Hardy “Rest.. In.. Peace..”. Mocking Undertaker.
⁃ Braun is backstage, as he walks, Bray Wyatt cut scenes flash across the screen, Braun is next.
Braun Strowman Promo
Braun is out. He cuts a promo about Bray Wyatt saying that he has a story about fear. He tells a story about a snake biting Bray in the face, and all he did was laugh. Braun says in that instant he knew he was in the presence of evil. He says he then realized Bray was the devil himself. Braun says Bray made him do the devils work. But, he loved every second of it, and part of him still does. Braun asks Bray if he wants to go back to the swamp, because that’s the only way they will settle this. He will maul Bray and let the alligators finish him. He challenges Bray to a match at his home. The swamp. Bray Wyatt laughter fills the arena, as Braun then starts to laugh too. Screen goes black. I guess we will see a Swamp Match at Extreme rules.
⁃ More superstars talking about Undertakers legacy.
Jeff Hardy vs. King Corbin.
Corbin drops Jeff Hardy right away with a shoulder tackle and beats him down, staying on him. Stomps, punches, hair pulling, Corbin did everything he could to keep Jeff floored. Corbin takes the match to the outside, and it immediately backfired. Hardy throws Corbin i go the announcers table, then back in the ring to give King Corbin some stomps and punches of his own. Hardy tried for the whisper in the wind, but Corbin reverses it and sends Jeff shoulder first into the ring post. Corbin then got down on one knee and mocked Undertaker as we head to break. We come back to see the roster around the ring. Michael Cole says they’re here to support Jeff Hardy as he fights for Undertakers honor. This is basically a lumberjack match now. Corbin was in control, still though. He got Hardy out of the ring and tortured Jeff in front of the roster. They spill back in the ring, where Jeff would get the upper hand and start fighting back. He tried to hit the twist of fate, but King Corbin reverses it and ends up hitting the deep six. Corbin tried to throw Jeff out if the ring again, but just like the first time, it backfired. Hardy sends Corbin into the steps, then back into the ring where he would hit the swanton for the win. Corbin attacks Hardy after the match, but the roster slid into the ring for the save. Big E hit the big ending, then Braun hit his power slam, followed by Riddle hitting his flying bro. Everyone celebrates to end the show as Jeff Hardy poses like Undertaker as his picture pops up on the screen.
My Overall Thoughts
Smackdown was thrown into shambles with everything going on. They did the best they could with the cards they were delt. Tonight’s show wasn’t the best, but i can’t fault them for that. As far as next week, they once again promoted Sheamus’ toast to Jeff Hardy. Nothing else was promoted so we will see what happens with that. Hopefully we are back to regularly scheduled programming next week, so, I’ll see you all then! Thanks for reading!
