The Kevin Owens Show: Where Do We Go From Here?
Where do we go from here?
A look into the future of WWE Raw
Last week, we saw possibly one of the biggest swerves in recent memory; Seth Rollins, “The Man,” was betrayed by his longterm companion and supporter, Triple H. Now this may not come to a surprise to many as this plan has been in motion since before Seth Rollins’ knee injury that sidelined him for months. The question now, however, is where do we go from here?
This week we are expected to hear from both Rollins and Triple H about the incident which will undoubtedly kick off a monstrous feud that could very well last until Wrestlemanina next year. With Rollins turning face, there are a few questions that need to be answered. Where does Rollins go from here? Is Kevin Owens the new face of the authority or just a lucky superstar in the right place at the right time? What about Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon, do they support Triple H’s decision to turn on Rollins, or will they back their former “guy”? Finally, where does Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins’ former shield companion turned bitter rival, who also is on Raw fit in? I will be examining these questions in this article and making a few bold predictions for the next couple months.
I believe Rollins making a face turn and embroiling himself in this bitter feud with Triple H will go beyond the Universal Title. While he may get a rematch depending on how Foley and Stephanie side on this feud (more on that in a minute), I believe they will find another challenger for Owens, possibly a feud with Chris Jericho out of jealousy. As for Rollins, I see a similar situation to when Triple H turned on Shawn Michaels in 2002. It will escalate more and more with the authority costing Rollins matches and Rollins in turn causing major trouble for Monday Night Raw until he gets his bitter-sweet revenge. The biggest question is do they hold off for a match between the two at Wrestlemaina or do they culminate the feud with a traditional 5 on 5 match at Survivor Series? Personally, I would like a big Survivor Series match with the shield reuniting to take on the authority one more time, then the Rollins/Triple H feud taking a break until Wrestlemania, allowing Rollins to enter the Royal Rumble and maybe even being screwed out of a title shot, setting up the massive clash of the titans.
As for Stephanie and Mick, I see them being shocked, but ultimately show support for Triple H, while staying out of the feud as Mick being a heel is highly unlikely. A possible scenario I could see playing out is Stephanie siding with her husband and Mick siding with Rollins, setting up for Foley’s departure and Triple H taking his place as head of Raw. This gives Mick more time to focus on his WWE Network show, Holy Foley, and help his daughter prepare for her wrestling career.
Now for Roman Reigns, I see a few weeks/months of Reigns laughing at Rollins, thinking he got “what he deserved,” but ultimately when things get too much for Rollins, Reigns will come out, save Rollins from some epic beating and reunite the shield. I also predict that Dean Ambrose, after losing his title, somehow finds his way to Raw and joining his brothers in their fight. Some may see this as a backstep in their career paths, The Shield reunion would bring interest to the fans as well as give Reigns time to progress. Turning Reigns heel against Rollins seems unlikely, but I wouldn’t 100% rule it out. I think the WWE has an invested interest in keeping Reigns as a face, although replacing Rollins with him as the heel of the authority would make for interesting television.
Finally, what about our new “Champion of the Universe” Kevin Owens? Side note, If they called their champion that instead of “universal champion, it would probably gain back the respect that was lost by the look of the title. Kevin Owens certainly deserves this title run. While its true Sami Zayn has gotten a bit of an unfair treatment since winning their feud, I suspect we haven’t seen the last of him in this. Rather than joining the Authority, I believe it would make more sense to keep Owens on the path he was on before Finn Balor’s injury and his new title reign. Chris Jericho could keep close by Kevin Owens, thinking he is a “co-champion” as he alluded to on twitter. It has been gold watching Y2J go off on his delusional rants and Kevin Owens, his reluctant partner, just going along with whatever crazy thing Jericho has to say. It would be good to see Zayn get the first crack at Owens, as their feud is always a money maker, no matter what, but ultimately, we should see Owens get tired of Chris Jericho and they feud for the title. With Jericho’s name added to Owens’ already impressive list of amazing feuds, this will no doubt propel him into the top heel of the company for many years to come.
Whatever happens with all these paths, there is so much material for the writers right in front of them. To capitalize on anything that has been set in motion will surly secure Raw as the number one brand by a long shot, (not that is isn’t already). My one hope, however, is that they use the NXT call ups as much as possible. They are clearly the future of the company and are battle tested and can easily deliver! With the older stars retiring, and current talent floundering, the stars like Owens, Zayn, Cesaro, Rollins, and Balor, when he returns, can easily carry the company, and maybe, just maybe bring the WWE back to its glory days!
