Jordan’s PROGRESS Wrestling Chapter 41 Review
PROGRESS Wrestling Chapter 41 Review
The South Pacific Power Trip vs. FSU and Nixon Newell
This match was loads of fun. Nonstop action. There were bits of comedy but overall the match was just exciting action. I usually don’t like comedic things within wrestling matches but the spot they did where Dennis threatened to kiss Dahlia so Cooper threatened to kiss Nixon and then Andrews threatened to kiss Banks was hilarious and it ended with Mandrews and Travis kissing which made me laugh out loud. Didn’t find the sex positions spot super amusing though. Great match, I was thoroughly entertained the whole way through. Awesome, awesome opener!

Toni Storm vs. Kay Lee Ray
Glen is still freaking out about the fact that a PROGRESS show is on a Friday night to start this one. I love both of these women so this should be good. Nice sequence of moves near the beginning. I love watching two fantastic women’s wrestlers go at it. I’d much rather watch these two wrestle than Charlotte and Sasha. Suicide dive and some vicious chops then some suplexes. These two are killing it. Muscle Buster into a bridge from Toni! William Amsberry would be proud of that bridge. Kay Lee connects with an impressive swanton bomb which I thought might’ve been the end but it wasn’t. Release German Suplex followed by a vicious piledriver and Toni wins! Great match. Both women put in a fantastic effort to put on a very good match to watch. I love Toni Storm, she deserves to get more recognition.

British Strong Style vs. The London Riots vs. Marty Scurll and Zack Sabre Jr. for the PROGRESS Tag Team Championship
Scurll unveils Sabre as his partner by opening a box and Sabre pops out of it in a hilarious and GIF worthy moment. Looks like Scurll is playing a face here which is strange but I’m cool with it. Scurll as a face is ridiculously fun. Great striking exchange between Sabre and Davis. Some fun double team stuff with the Riots and the Leaders. We haven’t had anything from Bate and Seven in a while. It can’t be a multi man match with dives to the outside and we get a good amount of them, the most impressive being big Rob Lynch doing a tope to the outside onto everyone. The match is now getting very good as we get a submission train I guess you could call it from everyone except Seven who comes in and chops everyone after not being able to find a way to apply another submission. This match is entertaining as hell. Now everyone is coming in and hitting chops and superkicks and punches and dropkicks and lariats. This is crazy. This is PROGRESS! Bate and Seven are so much better at being faces than heels. The crowd is getting hyped for Scurll to lock in the Chickenwing and he gets it locked in on Seven until James Davis nails a Celtic Cross on Bate onto Seven and Scurll. A bunch of submissions now. Bate gets the pin on Sabre following a piledriver to win the PROGRESS Tag Team Championship and now all members of British Strong Style are champions. These teams tore it up. Awesome match!

Pete Dunne vs. Fabian Aichner for the PROGRESS World Championship
Dunne gets lots of heat (I’d be booing him if I were there). Aichner’s theme is the song WWE used for Main Event for a while, Diamond Eyes by Shinedown, which is an awesome song. Aichner is also known for having competed in the Cruiserweight Classic. After some back and forth, in a bold move, Aichner spits in Pete’s face. Any time Dunne removes his mouth piece it’s so gross to watch. Springboard crossbody to the outside followed by a springboard tornado DDT and then a vicious lariat from Aichner. This guy is on fire and is outshining Dunne here. Double stomp from Dunne, went for a powerbomb but Aichner counters and nails a BRUTAL sit out powerbomb. Now the two men are trading blows until Dunne takes the complete advantage. Aichner hits a moonsault and a pumphandle driver for a near fall. Aichner springs from one top rope to the other and misses a moonsault and then Dunne capitalizes by hitting the Bitter End. Great match. Aichner looked so much better than Dunne in this match.

Sebastian and William Eaver vs. Jack Sexsmith and Chuck Mambo
When Forever by Drake came on I freaked out because I love Sebastian. He’s such a great heel. Sexsmith and Mambo are overly ridiculous. Sexsmith kisses Jim on the lips which makes the count for male on male kissing on this show at 2 which is more than your usual wrestling event. Jim announces Sexsmith and Mambo as “apparently known as Sex On the Beach”. The crowd chants “fuck off Sebastian” which is hilarious. We get a Sweet Jesus reunion with Eaver and Mambo. Sebastian comes in to ruin all the “fun”, but I wasn’t really enjoying having a condom come into play in a wrestling match. Sexsmith exposes his bare ass and stinkfaces Sebastian which is something I could’ve gone without seeing. Apparently Sebastian got shit on his face from Sexsmith and then pukes and slips on it. This is just dumb and kinda gross at this point. At least Mambo hit a cool springboard somersault. Sebastian hit a GTS on Mambo and had the pin but then stops the pin and tags in Eaver and forces Eaver to hit a Lariat on Mambo. Sebastian yells at Eaver and Eaver slaps Sebastian but then lariats Mambo again. The comedy was too much in this one, especially the stinkface and poop. That was too far. I didn’t like this at all, the comedy was stupid and at times vile and the only standout part of it all was the springboard somersault from Mambo.

Jimmy Havoc vs. Will Ospreay
This is a huge match with such history behind it. This time Havoc comes in as a face like he’s been since he returned and Ospreay is still technically a face. Ospreay also hasn’t won a match in PROGRESS all year. This match starts off hot and Will spears Havoc into the crowd! It’s weird that Ospreay is beating the fuck out of a Havoc and the crowd hates him for it because a year ago they would’ve loved him for doing this. Havoc hits the Acid Rainmaker but Ospreay falls to the outside of the ring. It’s honestly so odd hearing Ospreay get booed this hard. Havoc counters a shooting star and then hits a sick DDT. Ospreay’s flippy shit gets some love but the crowd is still super behind Havoc. Ospreay hits the Rainmaker on Havoc but Havoc kicks out right at 1. Those quick kickouts after big moves always bother me. Ospreay hits the OsCutter but Havoc kicks out at two. Havoc hits the Burning Hammer and Ospreay no sells (ugh…) the hits the GTS and goes for the Acid Rainmaker but Havoc counters. Havoc then finally hits the Acid Rainmaker for the win. After the match Havoc genuinely apologizes and asks Ospreay to join him in his fight with British Strong Style. Ospreay thinks then shakes Havoc’s hand before low blowing him. I don’t blame Will! After all the torment Havoc put Will through and now he all of a sudden has a change in heart and wants Will’s help? Paul Robinson comes out to help Ospreay in his beat down of Havoc and has a barbed wire bat with him. This heel turn was done perfectly. They built Ospreay’s turn amazingly. To have this rivalry come full circle now with Havoc as the face and Ospreay as the heel is so cool. The match had too much no selling for my liking but the story was fantastic.
Rating: ****
Overall this was a great show however the first half was much better first half than the second half. The comedic tag match kinda ruined the feel of the show for me a little bit. It’s worth a watch for sure, just skip over the tag match before the main event.
