NJPW Best of Super Juniors Day 5 Review
Day 5 and back to full cards for NJPW here so welcome back the Young lion’s and random tag matches to the reviews. No more delay; let’s get into the show.
Hirai Kawato & Tomoyuki Oka vs Katsuya Kitamura & Shota Umino
This was actually a really good Young Lion’s match. Again I really do see a bright future in Kitamura; once he gets out of Young Lion territory and does his excursion I think he’ll be huge. Look out for him in the coming years. The others impressed too as it was a solid tag match that shows the improvement of the young workers. Kawato made Umino submit to give his team a win.
Match Rating: **3/4
CHAOS (Will Ospreay & Jado) vs Suzuki-GUN (Taichi & TAKA Michinoku)
The Ospreay/TAKA chemistry shows off here again as they kill it. Of course Taichi does his dumb tactics including his shitty ass hammer. This is a short little tag match that serves its purpose of filling the card and keeping Taichi’s momentum (Reminder that Taichi is the woooooooooorst). Taichi and TAKA get the win here and I just don’t care one bit. TAKA being alongside Taichi is making me dislike him even though he is actually good

War Machine/Ricochet/David Finlay Jr. vs Bullet Club (G.o.D/Yujiro/Scurll)
This was a damn good tag match. As it was randomly placed on this show as filler and hype for the G.o.D/War Machine title match this probably won’t get the recognition it deserves but man it was really good. I mean it had a dope Gun Stun out of a Shooting Star Press sorta like the Orton/Bourne spot from a while back. Also Ricochet had the war paint on as well and I found that pretty funny. Tama Tonga takes the win for his team here in an excellent tag match.
Match Rating: ***3/4
Dragon Lee/Jushin Liger/Juice/Kojima vs Los Ingobernables de Japon (Naito/Takahashi/SANADA/EVIL)
Another really good tag match here but that should come as no surprise with the people involved in this match. Dragon Lee and Takahashi runs through some spots which is always a joy to watch. Liger and Naito went at it early on and that was a fun dynamic to watch play out. All around just a more entertainment tag match here. Juice got the win here in an enjoyable tag. Nice filler; can’t complain much here.
Match Rating: ***1/2
Volador Jr. vs Yoshinobu Kanemaru
This was alright but Kanemaru’s weakest match of the tournament so far. Volador did alright here but not as good in his last outing. Volador has been sadly very inconsistent in these outings but I hope he cleans it up because I know he has the talent to have great matches. With that being said Kanemaru takes the win here in a solid match-up but nothing too flashy.
Match Rating: ***1/2
Tiger Mask IV vs ACH
This was nothing like the last match, it was very good and another great showing from both guys. Tiger Mask looks like a new wrestler out here as he has killed it his last two tournament matches. I can’t praise ACH enough but he comes through with another banger here. Defintley one to check out. Both men put it all out in the ring and had a great match. Tiger Mask gets a sneaky victory here and continues his march to the top of the B Block as he is now tied with Taguchi and Desperado for first place but that will change as Taguchi and Desperado have a match next to see who will be 1st place.
Match Rating: ***3/4
Rysuke Taguchi vs El Desperado
This was another great match in the tourney from Desperado who continues to impress a lot. He takes the win here to become sole owner of 1st place in the B Block. They get the antics out of the way at the beginning and once Taguchi got serious the match really got good. Serious Taguchi is best Taguchi. I really do hope we see Desperado take the B Block as he has really done so good during this whole tournament and I don’t see him slowing down anytime soon.
Match Rating: ***3/4
KUSHIDA vs BUSHI
This match could be the match of the tournament so far but it is really up there with Ricochet and Ospreay from Day 2. These two guys just went and showed why them having no points is a bad decision. Not much can be said as you just have to watch this match to properly enjoy it. KUSHIDA does come out the winner here and finally has some points to his name.
Match Rating: ****
All around this show was really good and i’d say it is worth your time as long as you start from Bullet Club vs War Machine/Ricochet/David Finlay Jr. All the matches onward were very good and worth the watch except Kanemaru/Volador but I wouldn’t say skip it.
