NXT REVIEW 11/16/2016
11/16/16 NXT takes place in Winter Park, Florida.
First match, Liv Morgan vs. Peyton Royce w/ Billie Kay.
This is a pretty short match only lasting about four minutes. We get to see some of Peyton’s moves, but then Liv starts to get the upper hand after she takes out Billie Kay at ringside and hits her jumping DDT into a guillotine for what seemed to be the end for Peyton, but Billie Kay interfered to give Liv Morgan a DQ win. After the match, the beat down of Liv Morgan began, until Aliyah came down to make the save, but Peyton and Billie still hold their own until… Ember Moon comes down and sends the duo packing.
WINNER: Liv Morgan by DQ
OPINION: I think this is a great way to introduce a new cast for the Women’s Division in NXT. This way we get introduced and get to see a group of superstars and their personalities, instead of just having the show focus on two main characters. A couple will of course stand out and hopefully lead the next Women’s Division charge for the main roster.
MATCH RATING: 5.1/10
Recap of the Dusty Rhodes tag team classic
The long-awaited return for…. The Drifter, Elias Sampson is finally here! Although, the crowd doesn’t seem like they are behind him at all. He sings and plays his guitar at the beginning of his intro, the song just says that he’s returning. The crowd continues to boo him.
Elias Sampson VS. Nathan Cruise
This is a short three minute squash match. The crowd cheers for Nathan the whole time. The Drifter makes quick work and hits his neckbreaker for the win.
WINNER: Elias Sampson by Pin Fall
OPINION: I like Elias Sampson’s look. He has a great build to him, and I think he portrays a drifter very well. He even has a good move set up. But he has to do something to get over with the fans. It’s going to be very interesting to see how he is booked in the next couple of months.
MATCH RATING: 3.8/10
Promo: Liv Morgan, Aliyah, and Ember Moon talk about how they have had enough of Billie Kay and Peyton Royce. They issue a challenge that Billie Kay and Peyton Royce find a third person and challenge them to a match.
It’s time for the Main Event!
Cedric Alexander VS. Andrade “Cien” Almas.
This match was solely for Almas. It was a good match, but Almas showed that he is displaying a new character. During the match, Almas constantly taunted Alexander with laying in the ring acting bored, spitting in Alexander’s face, and even stopping a devastating move just to slap him right across the face. Alexander hits the Lumbar Check, but Almas goes to the ropes and kicks the rope so that it makes for a low blow to Alexander and then Almas hits the Hammerlock DDT for the win.
WINNER: Andrade “Cien” Almas by Pin Fall
OPINION: This was a great match for Andrade to get over. From start to finish you could see that he really wanted this and he was making a clear effort to communicate with the fans about his character without having to cut promos, much like Shinsuke Nakamura and Asuka. This was not one of Cedric Alexander’s better matches, but I only say that because I feel like he consistently steals the show. However, this match wasn’t about Cedric Alexander getting over, because we already know he’s got a bright future ahead of him. I hope that this isn’t the end between these two because I would love to see these two go again, now at somewhat of a more equal stage.
MATCH RATING: 7.2/10
Final Thoughts: The majority of the show was video packages of what’s been happening in NXT leading up to NXT TAKEOVER: TORONTO. The same video packages that I imagine are going to be at NXT TAKEOVER: TORONTO. This was a bit boring, but they did a decent job of building up the superstars who aren’t going to be competing this Saturday, and progressing their storylines.
OVERALL RATING: 5.5/10
That’s all we have for you this week, but with NXT TAKEOVER: TORONTO this weekend, it ought to shake things up a bit here in NXT so we’ll see you next week!
