Finally, will Erick Rowan be able to get retribution and build momentum heading into Super ShowDown when he once again goes one on one with the man who beat him last week, Aleister Black?
Raw comes to us from the Bell MTS Place in Winnipeg, MB.
Raw kicks off with us being welcomed by Jerry “The King” Lawler and Byron Saxton and Tom Phillips
In-Ring Segment: Randy Orton
Orton starts by saying he needs to apologize. He says he is not the most sentimental of men but lately, his emotions have become unbalanced. Orton tells that this morning when he arrived at the venue he was told it had been 15 years since Monday Night Raw made it to Winnipeg. He tells he would’ve been 24 years old and thanks to some research he saw on that Raw he was the Intercontinental Champion and he was punched in the face by a man who would save him from himself, a man who would save him from his self-destructive tendencies, a man who he would look up to like a brother. He says his name was Adam but you all know him as Edge. the crowd chants for Edge but Orton tells them that Edge can’t be here tonight because of what he did to him a month ago. He then says no one can understand why he did what he did. He tells that what he did he is very sorry for, he is truly sorry from the bottom of his heart. Out comes Kevin Owens.
Owens tells Orton that for the past few months he has been dealing with a lot of delusional people, AOP, their buddy Murphy, and the Monday Night moron Seth Rollins. He says he is putting the issues to the side because he has one with Orton. He tells how he heard Orton apologize but he doesn’t think he means it. Owens tells him to drop the act and tell everyone why he did it. He tells how Matt Hardy tried to get him to tell why but got a vicious beatdown so now he is here asking why he did it. Orton tells him he doesn’t want to go down that road. Owens says he does want to go down that road. He tells how he has watched WWE his whole life and when Edge retired it sucked for Edge and for people who were fans of him. Owens says at the Royal Rumble when Edge returned he was watching as a fan and to see the look in Edge’s eyes when he got what he loved back and the feeling he got knowing he could step in the ring with him but then Orton took it all away. He then asks Orton again why he did it. Orton asks Owens if he thinks he knows him and reminds him that Edge thought he knew him too. Owens says you’re right I don’t know you but he thinks the people are tired of hearing us talk and want to see us fight. Orton tells him he is on but not right this minute.
My Opinion:
This was a good start to Raw, Owens came out and stood up to Orton and showed what he has been fighting for all along and that is people to explain their action. Owens has become the moderator of Raw and we will see if he can keep the peace tonight and put Orton in his place. I think for Orton he should continue to play mind games and keep striking when people least expect it because that is something that has always worked for him in the past and still does to this day. This could turn out to be bad for Owens tonight if Orton goes unhinged.
Backstage Segment: Angel Garza & Zelina Vega
Charly asks Vega and Garza what unfinished business they have for Humberto Carrillo. Vega says they have a necessary chore to take out the trash. She says there are some family members you are super proud of and some you’d much rather deny. She says Garza is a man’s man and he understands he needs to put his cousin where he belongs. She says when Carrillo is out of the way Garza can take the top spot on Raw. Garza tells Charly there is business and pleasure and with Charly, it is always a pleasure.

Garza tries again but Carrillo kicks out. They trade more covers but neither man can put the other away. Garza stays with it and works one more cover getting the 1 2 3.
Winner: Angel Garza
My Opinion:
This was an awesome match between these two! The way they trade offense and neither gave an inch made this a must-see contest. For Garza, he gets this huge win but it wasn’t as decisive as it could have been so I expect we will see this match again. This one could have gone either way and there is no doubt anytime these two step in a ring they will deliver. The more interesting thing will be where does this rivalry go especially when Andrade returns?
Backstage Segment: Becky Lynch
Becky Lynch is seen talking backstage, she will be live later tonight!
Match 2: Ricochet vs Luke Gallows w/ AJ Styles & Karl Anderson
Gallows lands a big kick and then a forearm strike to Ricochet. Ricochet fights back and is able to send Gallows to the floor. Ricochet flies over the ropes and takes down Gallows. Back in the ring, Ricochet flies off the top and Gallows hits him with a boot. Gallows then hits him with an elbow. Ricochet is put in the corner and Gallows continues to pound on him with strikes. Gallows hits a backbreaker and then goes for the cover but Ricochet kicks out. Gallows hits a chop and tries another cover but still, he can’t put him away. Gallows now goes to a chin lock and keeps control on the mat. Ricochet is able to create separation but Gallows comes right back on him. Ricochet blocks a suplex and then hits a step-up enziguri. Ricochet lands a boot and another to keep fighting off Gallows. Ricochet comes off the ropes and hits a forearm. He comes off the ropes and hits a crossbody. Ricochet then hits the standing shooting star. He covers but Gallows kicks out. Gallows comes back with a superkick. Ricochet then hits one of his own and follows with the recoil. Ricochet goes up top and flies across the ring to hit the shooting star. He covers and gets the 1 2 3 on the cover.
Winner: Ricochet
My Opinion:
This is a huge and much-needed win for Ricochet ahead of Thursday. Obviously, there isn’t a lot in Ricochet’s favor heading into this championship match but the one thing he could control and needed was a big win beforehand. Hopefully, Ricochet now has some more confidence and is ready for his big opportunity. Ricochet needs to be quick in the ring and not allow Lesnar to get ahold of him as Gallows did. There is a lot that is going to have to go right for Ricochet for him to win but miracles can happen and Ricochet does have to heart to pull it off.
Backstage Segment: The O.C. (AJ Styles & Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson)
Gallows and Anderson argue and Styles tells them enough. He tells them a miracle can happen. He says a miracle at Super ShowDown, a miracle Ricochet could beat Brock Lesnar and become WWE Champion. Styles says he will be right behind him to take it from him if he does after he wins his trophy for the gauntlet match. They then come upon Aleister Black. Styles says maybe they need to remind Black who they are. They then attack Black and lay him out. Black struggles to his feet as they walk away.
In-Ring Segment: Brock Lesnar w/ Paul Heyman
Heyman introduces himself and Brock Lesnar. Heyman then tells how for years people have been trying to come up with these catchphrases trying to brand themselves as mainstream celebrities. He says Lesnar doesn’t need a catchphrase. The catchphrase for him is that when he wants to he reigns as the champion. Heman says Lesnar taking someone to Suplex City is a rare event so when it happens it’s special. He tells how Lesnar will face Ricochet this Thursday and tells the crowd to imagine the beating Ricochet will get because Brock Lesnar feels like he owes him one. Heyman says Lesnar wrestling is special. He says that the stakes have never been higher for a Brock Lesnar match because if Ricochet somehow emerges victorious and becomes the WWE Champion then Ricochet goes on to main event WrestleMania and defend the title against Drew Mcintyre. He says if that happens it changes everything. He says if his aunt has balls she’d be his uncle but she doesn’t so it can go out the window when Brock Lesnar takes him to Suplex City and goes on to WrestleMania. He says this is a spoiler, at WrestleMania Brock Lesnar will make minced meat of Drew Mcintyre and be done with him once and for all and then the undisputed WWE Champion of the world will be Brock Lesnar. The two then leave the ring. Lesnar gets on top of the announcer’s table and holds the WWE Championship up high.
My Opinion:
This is what you would expect for Heyman before this Thursday, there is no way he or Lesnar thinks the title is in any danger. Frankly, Ricochet should have come out and attacked Lesnar and put him on notice. He is allowing them to be out there and laugh at him and the only way he would invoke any fear would have been an attack. It’ll be interesting to see who is the WWE Champion come next Monday but I bet for Drew Mcintrye it doesn’t matter either way and he is ready for either man at WrestleMania!
Backstage Segment: Aleister Black
Aleister Black limps to the ring as he prepares for his match, next.
Match 3: Aleister Black vs Erick Rowan
Black lands a kick but it doesn’t phase Rowan and he throws him in the corner. Black tries to counter but Rowan stays in control and throws him to the mat. Rowan then hits a power slam. Rowan gets to the apron but Black lands a kick and sends him back to the floor. Rowan then drops him on the apron before throwing him into the time keeper’s area.
Black falls to the floor as Rowan stands in the ring. Black tries to get in the ring but falls again. He uses the barricade to pull himself back up and makes it in the ring. Rowan then hits him with an elbow drop. Rowan then throws him off the ropes and hits him with a back elbow. Rowan continues to toy with him and once again Black finds himself in the corner. Rowan hits him with vicious strikes and keeps Black on the defensive. Rowan now hits a headbutt before stomping on Black. Rowan whips him into the other corner and follows behind him to land a big splash. Rowan brings him to his feet and throws him into the corner again. Black lands a boot but Rowan stays with it and throws him to the mat. Rowan tries a cover but Black kicks out.
Black goes to the apron and is able to create a moment of separation with a big kick. He throws more kicks but Rowan comes to and lands a big slam. Rowan covers but again Black won’t stay down. Rowan looks for a suplex but Black lands a knee to the face. He tries a cover but Rowan kicks out. Black comes at him with big strikes and takes Rowan to a knee. Black then hits a knee to the face. Rowan throws him in the ring and then goes to pick up his cage and place it back on the steps. Rowan gets back in the ring and as he does he is hit with Black Mass. Black hits it once more and Rowan goes down. Black covers and gets the 1 2 3.
*** After the match Sarah asks Black how he overcame the odds. Black says rage, unbridled rage. He tells that next week his rage will be AJ Styles burden. He says next week he and AJ Styles fight.
Winner: Aleister Black
My Opinion:
Wow, what a win for Black tonight, he showed so much heart and endured so much pain to pull that one off. This was a very entertaining match and these two told a great story. Black is on track to do big things and if he continues to win like this and can knock off AJ Styles next week this will be huge for him. I still hold out hope Black will have something big in his future because he deserves it and is showing each week why he is one of the top Superstars on Raw.
Drew Mcintyre Interview:
Charly asks Drew who he would rather face at WrestleMania. He says he doesn’t care and all that matters is that he is fighting for the WWE title at WrestleMania. He says it was something that was promised to him many years ago but it never materialized. She asks him to elaborate. He tells how he was the chosen one 13 years ago and since winning the Intercontinental title back then he has one zero titles here. He says he was a liability and was fired. She asks if he thinks he would return. He says he didn’t and was very bitter but then realized he was the one to blame and needed to get back to WWE because he would be damned if people remembered Drew Mcintyre as the idiot playing air guitar. Charly then asked him about NXT. he says he talked to Triple H and they knew not only could it benefit his career but he could be a leader. She then asks how it felt to return to Raw. He says it was 4 years to the day he had been fired and he showed you can do it if you put your head down and bust your butt. She then asks what went through his mind at the Royal Rumble. He says he knew he needed to eliminate Brock Lesnar and win the Royal Rumble. He says he was always told he would be the future but it was time he was the present. He says he saw the look in Lesnar’s eyes and he knew Lesnar knew he was different. He says finally he will fulfill his destiny.
My Opinion:
Mcintyre’s story is quite incredible and the way he has battled back and proven himself is remarkable. He has made himself a fan favorite and a must-see Superstar. There would be no better chapter in his story then for him to go on and win the WWE Championship. He seems very confident in his ability and this year should be his year. He has been ready to carry Raw for a while and if he is champion there are a lot of Superstars for him to face and he’d be someone who is there every week representing the championship and giving people opportunities. I for one will be rooting for Mcintyre to finally reach the potential he is destined for!
In-Ring Segment: Truth TV w/ Bobby Lashley & Lana
Truth welcomes everyone to the winter premiere of Truth TV. He then welcomes Monday Night Raw’s power couple Bobby Lashley and Lana as Raw goes to break.
As Raw returns, Truth says ever since he heard about this interview he has so many questions he wants to ask. Lana says they aren’t here for his stupid talk show and reminds Truth he has a scheduled match with her Bobby. Truth says the thing is Lashley is really, really, really big. He says he would rather ask him questions versus having a match with him. He then asks Lashley if he has seen Sonic The Hedgehog movie. Lana then tells the ref to ring the bell.
Match 4: R-Truth vs Bobby Lashley w/ Lana
The match begins and Lashley tees off on Truth. He throws him into the corner and crushes him with a clothesline. Lashley plants him face-first on the mat. Lashley then throws Truth to the outside. Truth comes back in the ring and hits Lashley with a right hand. He then takes down Lashley with a series of shoulder tackles and then slams Lashley to the mat. Truth hits the Five Knuckle Shuffle and then looks for AA but Lashley fights it off. Lashley hits the spear and gets the 1 2 3 on the cover.
Winner: Bobby Lashley
My Opinion:
Lashley looked very dominant in this one tonight and seems very ready for this Thursday. I think this match will mean a lot to Lashley and he will do everything he can to win because it’s been a while since he has been in the position to get an individual accolade. If Lashley wins this he can finally show again what he is made of and for a moment step out of the shadows of his relationship drama. If Lashley gets a good position in the gauntlet match you can expect him to make a big impact. For Truth, things don’t look so great right now but he has had big victories in the past so it’s not out of the question.
*** Next Week, Aleister Black will take on AJ Styles! Plus, Rey Mysterio and Humberto Carrillo will team up to take on Andrade and Angel Garza!
In-Ring Segment: Raw Women’s Elimination Chamber Match Contract Signing (Liv Morgan, Sarah Logan, Ruby Riott, Asuka, Shayna Baszler, Natalya. Moderated by Jerry “The King” Lawler)
King welcomes everyone to the contract signing and says this is a life-changing opportunity for whoever wins this match. Asuka grabs the mic and says we don’t care. She says 6 people right? She then counts and tells Shayna Baszler to get down here. King says you’re right it is customary to have everyone involved in the contract signing to be out here but she is in the arena and she is either running late or a no show. He says one way or another we are going to get this thing started. He starts with Sarah Logan who signs the contract. Next, Natalya signs the contract. Liv Morgan then signs the contract. Liv then takes the contract and slams it down in front of Ruby Riott. Riott then signs the contract. Riott and Morgan stare each other down. King tells them, let’s keep everything under control. Asuka then goes to sign but the music of Shayna Baszler hits. Baszler then comes through the crowd to the ring. Baszler then signs the contract. Baszler walks over to Natalya and stares her down. Natalya walks over to her and King says the contract is signed, “ladies you’re on your own”. Asuka walks up to Baszler and tells her to bite her. Natalya takes down Asuka. Morgan takes down Riot and Logan gets involved. Natalya and Asuka continue to fo at it on the outside. Morgan continues to try to go after Riott and Logan follows. Baszler now stands in the ring but here comes Becky Lynch!
Lynch hits the ring and the two go at it! Lynch takes her down and hits her with big rights. Baszler grabs her and drives her into the mat. The two continue to hammer on each other until it is broken up by officials. Lynch breaks free and goes back after her. They restore order again as Raw goes to break.
My Opinion:
I’m very excited about this Elimination Chamber Match coming up, every participant in this match has something to prove and with the prize, they are fighting for you can imagine this is going to be a fight in the chamber. I think right now Baszler has the edge and it will be no surprise if she does win this one. With the budding storyline between her and Lynch that seems like something, everyone wants to see. If Baszler wins then she and Lynch are going to have one heck of a match but Baszler has a big task ahead of her to get to that match.
Match 5: Angelo Dawkins w/ Montez Ford vs Murphy w/ Seth Rollins
*** Before the match Ford tells how they helped Owens out last week but this Thursday they have an opportunity at the Raw Tag Team Championships. Dawkins says with aka the Monday Night Pariah and Murph the Smurf. Dawkins says all that matters is the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships this Thursday. They finish with their classic “We Want The Smoke”.
The match begins and Murphy throws his shirt at Dawkins to create a distraction to allow him to hit a knee strike. Murphy continues to hammer on Dawkins but Dawkins comes back with a big jab. Dawkins is able to take him to the mat and then land a splash in the corner. Dawkins goes to the floor and Murphy tries to create space. Dawkins gets back in the ring and back in control. He hits a standing moonsault and covers but Rollins kicks out. Ford is pushed to the outside and comes up hurt on the apron. Rollins goes to the second turnbuckle and grabs Ford but Ford hangs on. He lands a kick and Ford comes into the ring. Rollins grabs him and looks for the Pedigree but Ford fights it off and hits a DDT. Ford covers but Rollins just kicks out. Ford goes up top but Rollins hits him to slow him down and meet him up there. Ford fights back and sends him to the mat. Rollins leaps back up and looks for the suplex but Ford hangs on. Rollins goes back up but Ford this time turns it into a sunset bomb. Ford goes up top and looks for the frog splash but he crashes and burns as Rollins moves. Rollins hits the stomps and gets the 1 2 3 on the cover.
Winner: Seth Rollins
My Opinion:
Obviously, we didn’t get to see much in Dawkins and Murphy’s match but this one was awesome! Rollins and Ford battled back and forth but Rollins showed his veteran presence and struck when the opportunity came. This Thursday we will witness a tag team match but still, Rollins will be the wildcard since he is the one who has been to the top and knows how to get it done. The Street Profits have been the NXT Tag Team Champions but it is going to take a lot to win the Raw titles. This should be a clash for the ages and there is no doubt win, lose, or draw these teams will take one another to their limits.
*** Beth Phoenix will be live next week to provide an update on Edge.

Orton keeps the pressure on the arm and shoulder keeping Owens on the mat. Owens works to his feet but Orton keeps lock of the hold. Orton lets it go in the corner and stays in control.
Owens fights back with forearm shots but Orton doesn’t give much. Owens comes out of the corner hot and lands a superkick. Now the Viking Raiders and The Street Profits come out to clean up ringside. Back in the ring, Owens goes to the top but Orton takes out his leg. Orton meets him up there and looks for a suplex. Owens hangs on and fights off Orton with shots to the ribs. He and Orton now have a staredown with steel chairs in hands. Orton drops his chair and leaves the ring. Owens then drops his on the floor. Owens goes to the outside and grabs the referee. He brings him in the ring and rips the referee’s shirt off unveiling a Seth Rollins t-shirt. Owens then grabs a chair but throws it down instead of hitting the ref. The ref gets to his feet and Owens hits him with a Stunner. Rollins yells at Owens from the top of the stage telling him that he is a good human being and if you have a problem with him you have a problem with me. Owens goes to the outside and grabs a table. He lifts the ref and powerbombs him through the table.
Winner: Randy Orton
My Opinion:
This was a solid contest to end the night. Both Orton and Owens are fighters and it showed the way they battled in this one. Of course, Owens got screwed in the end but he did get some retribution on Orton and made a statement to Rollins in the end. It’s interesting that Rollins would now try to get referees involved and on his side. This is a very intriguing way for the story to go if Rollins tries to get officials involved and on his side instead of just Superstars. This is the kind of twist the story needed and they did just enough to keep it interesting but also let it breathe. It was a great way to end the show!
Final Thoughts:
Tonight was a decent Raw, first, I thought there could have been a bigger build-up for the WWE Championship match this Thursday. It kinda just felt like it is a joke and it makes it feel not as important as it should but either way I’m sure it will deliver the way it needs to. They did well in building up the Tag Team Championship Match and that one looks to be a very competitive one. I did really love the match between Garza and Carrillo, it was a clean even battle and ultimately Garza just pulled off the win. This is one I’m sure we will see again and I’m sure they will continue to outdo themselves each time they step in the ring together. I also thought the Rowan and Black match was super entertaining and these two told quite the story. Black took so much pain but showed once again he will find a way to win and it takes a lot to keep him down. The match between him and AJ Styles next week should be amazing! The contract signing tonight was also pretty exciting, there is a lot of bad blood in this match and as I said they have something to prove so this should be a very solid chamber match. Ultimately though it is that Lynch and Baszler clash we are looking forward to especially after that little taste of it tonight. Finally, the main event tonight delivered and Owens and Orton battled it out in the ring. It didn’t end the way we would have wanted but Owens did get the last laugh on Rollins and it will be interesting to see who else Rollins tries to get on his side. With Randy Orton, he escaped unharmed tonight but I’m curious to see what he does when Beth Phoenix comes to Raw next week. Overall I’m excited for this Thursday, as I said there should be a lot of competitive matchups and a lot of people going out to prove something making for a great show, I can’t wait to see what happens!!!
Overall Rating: 5.5/10
