First, what will happen when The Undertaker returns to Raw just days before one of the biggest matches of his career as he takes on Goldberg? Plus, in a big 6-Man Tag Team Match Roman Reigns teams with The Usos to take on The Revival and Drew Mcintyre. Finally, it’s been announced that Rey Mysterio will relinquish the United States Championship tonight, so if he does who will be next in line for the title?
Raw comes to us from the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas
Raw kicks off with us being welcomed by Michael Cole, Renee Young, and Corey Graves
In Ring Segment: Roman Reigns
Before Reigns can speak here comes Shane McMahon. Shane takes it to Mike Rome for a proper introduction before he starts. Shane then tells Reigns he can’t wait to shut him up. He tells that when he gets in the ring he is The Best In The World. He tells he is getting better with age and then goes into what he is going to do to Reigns this Friday. He tells Reigns he might beat him with Coast to Coast or he may even make him tap out for the first time ever in his career. He says after the ref tells him to break the hold he is going to and instead he is going to tighten the hold more till his eyes pop out of his head. Reigns tells him to shut up and says he would love for him to try to tap him out. He says he will pick him up and boom him through the mat. He tells Shane he doesn’t stand a chance with him and he is only out here because he relies on help. Reigns proclaims after he is done with Shane he is going to whoop Drew Mcintyre’s ass too at Stomping Grounds. Here comes Mcintyre.
Mcintyre tells Reigns it seems his mind is all over the place. He says what Shane said is one hundred percent correct and proclaims to end Reigns at Stomping Grounds. He tells Reigns though he needs to worry about the present and says they are going to take him out right now. The Revival attack Reigns from behind but The Usos soon come out to even the odds.
My Opinion:
This was a typical way to start off the night. We got a little bit more fuel on the fire with the words Shane said and also found out Reigns will take on Mcintyre at Stomping Grounds. This has been a good rivalry all around but hopefully, after these next two weeks we get something fresh. I feel like Shane has been saying a lot of the same things and Reigns is more of a get done in the ring so it’s been hard to keep this fresh and it’s time to get to fighting and stop the talking. It was a fast start though and was better than a long talking segment. We got to the action pretty quick which is good for the start of the show.
Match 1: The Usos & Roman Reigns vs Drew Mcintyre & The Revival
Wilder is hit with a huge superkick to start the match. Dawson has to pull Wilder out of the ring to save him from a splash. The Usos though fly to the outside and take out The Revival as Raw goes to break.
As Raw returns, Dawson is in control but runs into the turnbuckle. Wilder gets the tag and stops Jey from getting the tag. He is fought off and in comes Jimmy. Jimmy takes control and is able to take down Wilder with a big enziguri. Wilder comes back off the distraction and lands a big dropkick. Mcintyre comes in and kicks Jimmy over and over. Mcintyre lands a suplex and gets a two count on the cover. Mcintyre then works the arm of Jimmy with a submission. Jimmy gets to his feet and fights off the hold with forearms. Mcintyre is able to grab him and land a big belly to belly. Mcintyre goes for the cover but Reigns breaks it up. Dawson tags in and he stomps on Jimmy with the assist from Mcintyre. Jimmy lands a big right hand and follows with chops. Dawson fights back and is able to take Jimmy down. He then gets a near fall on the pin. Dawson then goes to a choke hold and continues the pressure on Jimmy’s arm. Jimmy looks to fight out of the corner and does so after a back body drop to Dawson. Dawson comes to and prevents the tag. He then plants him with a spine buster. Dawson goes for the cover but Jimmy kicks out as Raw goes to break.
As Raw returns, Reigns takes down Mcintyre. Reigns looks for the Superman Punch but Mcintyre ducts and hits a Glasgow Kiss. Reigns finally hits the punch. The Usos work to take out The Revival. Shane gets involved and Reigns goes after him. Mcintyre comes out of nowhere and hits him with a Claymore Kick. The Revival then hit The Shatter machine on the outside. Inside the ring, Mcintyre hits the Claymore Kick and gets the 1 2 3 on the cover.
*** After the match The Revival hit The Shatter Machine on Reigns. Mcintyre then hits another Claymore Kick on Reigns. Shane then taunts Reigns. Shane then hits Reigns with a spear.
Winners: Drew Mcintyre & The Revival
My Opinion:
This was a good match but ultimately Shane getting involved turned the tides. Reigns was taken out by Mcintyre and he has to be worried about what will happen this Friday. Reigns has to now worry about Mcintyre too and this is gonna be a hard fight for him. Right now Reigns is down but he has tomorrow night to fight back and by the time we get to Friday, I’m sure Reigns will be ready. Reigns definitely has a lot to prove because if he loses he just validates Shane but if he wins then he shows this is his yard plain and simple.
In Ring Segment: Miz TV w/ Seth Rollins
Miz says tonight is not about him but instead the looming threat that is Brock Lesnar’s Money In The Bank cash in. He then welcomes his guest Seth Rollins.
Miz welcomes Seth Rollins to Austin, TX. Miz tells how Rollins has a match at Super Show Down with Baron Cobrin but that could all change since it is said Lesnar is going to cash in. Rollins said your assuming Lesnar will show up and that Paul Heyman is telling the truth. Rollins says Heyman never tells the truth and says he will believe it when he sees it. Miz tells how they both have won the contract and found the best times to cash in. He says right now it is in the hands though of The Beast Brock Lesnar. Rollins says he would be relieved if he cashes in tonight because he can’t focus on what might be but instead he needs to focus on what will be. He says he has to focus on Baron Corbin because he is the #1 Contender. He tells if he is going to be the fighting champion he has to focus on Corbin and stomping his head into this mat. On the titantron, it is shown Heyman and Lesnar arriving. Heyman says let’s cash it in. instead of going to the ring the two go towards the locker rooms.
My Opinion:
This is a very difficult situation for Rollins as he as the huge threat of Lesnar hanging over his head. I think Rollins just has to be ready at all times and like he said he has to focus on what is. It remains to be seen or announced when Lesnar will cash in but for the rest of the night, Rollins has to be ready for a fight. If nothing happens tonight then he has to focus on Corbin and keep Lesnar in his mind as he heads into Friday’s event. If Rollins does lose tonight then again it’s refocusing and figuring out what to do next. But, this is what being a champion is all about, ready to fight at a moments notice defending what you hold.
In Ring Segment: Lucha House Pary & Lars Sullivan
Sullivan gets in the ring and the Lucha House Party jump him. Sulivan fights them off and lays them all out. Kalisto comes back and hits a dropkick. They then continue the attack and land a triple team move to send Sullivan to the outside. Sullivan retreats.
My Opinion:
The Lucha House Party survive tonight and send Sullivan retreating but the problem is he is still standing. On Friday the odds are he would get back in the ring and cause more destruction. Sullivan looked angry and with this being his first main roster match he has a lot to prove. Lucha House PArty tries to be super hero’s on Raw but ultimately they angered Sullivan even more which wasn’t the best idea for them. We will see what kind of destruction Sullivan causes this Friday!
Backstage Segment:
The Iconics tells Nikki she looks like a miniature sad pound puppy. They tell er WWE is no dog park they said she picked the wrong partner with that mut, Becky Lynch. Alexa Bliss comes in and asks them if they have a blooming onion to eat somewhere. Royce says no but she has a match to prepare for with Nikki. They leave and Bliss asks Nikki if she wants a coffee. Nikki says she knows she isn’t liked around her too much. Nikki says they are friends. Bliss tells her she will be in her corner for her match tonight.
In Ring Segment: Becky Lynch
Lynch says she wants to make some changes. She tells how she got home this weekend for the first time in 63 days. She tells all these things that have happened in those 63 days like switching brands and winning the main event of WrestleMania. Lynch says all her dream came true and she has never been more content in her entire life. She says contentment is the worst thing that could happen like her because those people get beaten and hurt and passed over. She says at MITB a fire woke up in her and tells when she is mad there isn’t a woman in this business that can hold her down. She tells Evans she will get to her and go through anything to do that. Out comes Evans.
Evans tells Lynch she shouldn’t be the face to represent WWE. Lynch tells Evans she will rip her arm out of its socket. Evans says she is not to be messed with. She tells Lynch she did beat her but she is the reason Lynch walked out of there not a winner. She tells Lynch when she is done she will be Becky no belts and she won’t ket her represent her division. She tells she will be the next champion. Here comes Charlotte.
Charlotte tells Lynch to stop making excuses. Charlotte tells her she lost and she became the 9 times Women’s Champion. Becky asks her where the title is now. Evans asks her why she is out here. She calls her a daddy’s girl who needs attention. Charlotte tells she is more than halfway to beating her dad’s 16 time World Championship record. She tells Evans al she has seen her do is make tea. She tells last week she didn’t even need to take off her street clothes to take her down. Evans calls her yesterday’s news and tells her she is the face of WWE. she tells her to run to SmackDown unless she wants to be educated by a Women’s Right. Evans then hits her with one.
My Opinion:
Lynch seemed really confident tonight and I think with her she needs to find the spark again. Of course, the fans are behind her but she is at her best with a chip on her shoulder. I feel from her perspective she is ready for anyone especially Evans and I could even see Lynch coming for Bayley and tiring to get that belt back as well. As for Evans, she seems a lot more comfortable in the ring now and she is becoming a key player. I think her feuding with Charlotte is gonna do her wonders because she will learn so much and Charlotte can really help get her over. It’ll be interesting to see how Charlotte continues to play into the Evans and Lynch storyline but it’s good for Evans to be fighting both of them as it only solidifies her as a key player more.
Match 2: Charlotte vs Lacey Evans
Charlotte attacks Evans and beats on her back as she takes her to the mat. Evans gets to the ropes to get her off. Charlotte controls her head and then let’s go to land a series of kicks. Evans is then forced to the outside. Evans gets back in the ring but again is taken down by Charlotte. Charlotte then hits her with big right hands. Evans tries to fight back but Charlotte stays on her and forces Evans to get to the ropes to break the hold. Charlotte again keeps a front face lock on. Evans is able to get to the back of Charlotte and connect with cross faces. Charlotte though forces Evans to the outside again as Raw goes to break.
As Raw returns, Charlotte has a front face lock on Evans. She then moves to her back and takes her to the mat. Evans fights back and is able to land a fireman’s carry takedown. Eams goes for the cover but Charlotte kicks out. Charlotte works her in the corner and lands a series of kicks. Charlotte lands a series of chops after that and imitates her father. Evans is able to catch Charlotte in the corner and uses boots of her own to wear down Charlotte. She tries a cover but Charlotte kicks out. Evans goes to a side headlock and keeps Charlotte on the mat. Charlotte rolls her up but Evans kicks out. Charlotte lands a big throw and Evans is down. Evans is able to land a knee on the apron and sends her to the mat with a leg sweep. Evans flies but Charlotte moves and Evans crashes. Charlotte comes out of the corner and hits her with a clothesline. Charlotte locks for the Figure 8 but Evans pushes her off into the corner. Evans and Charlotte collide as both try for a crossbody. Becky gets invovled and takes down Charlotte. She then gets in the ring and hits the man-handle slam on Evans.
Winner: Charlotte: Via DQ
My Opinion:
It’s too bad Lynch got invovled because these two were having a very hard hitting match and I loved it. Lynch though made her point and laid out Evans. I hope though Evans and Charlotte face again as this really helped out Evans out a lot. Evans looked really good and I loved the way these two did a lot of mat wrestling. After the match and the actions of Lynch, I’d really love to see a Triple Threat Match with these three as it would help Evans and continue this rivalry.
In Ring Segment: Rey Mysterio
Rey says he has been a part of WWE for a long time and it is in his blood and in his families blood. He says it is something he gets to share with his son now as his son his training to do what he does. He says now he has to do the right thing as a man and as a champion. He says due to his previous shoulder injury he is here tonight, he is then cut off and here comes Samoa Joe.
Joe asks Rey if he came out too early and ruined his big moment. Joe tells him this is a very important moment and he gets it. He says don’t ruin the moment by telling these people a lie. He tells Rey he isn’t relinquishing it because he is injured but instead because he didn’t beat him. Rey says he isn’t here to fool anyone. He says he has won championship his entire career through pain and injuries. He says if he was man enough to do that then he is man enough to do what he came here to do. He then announces he is relinquishing the United States Championship to Samoa Joe. he then lays the title down for Joe and tells him he will be back. Joe then grabs him from behind and locks in the Coquina Clutch. Joe then grabs the title and holds it high.
My Opinion:
Rey did the honorable thing tonight and I’m glad Joe got the title back as he is a great champion. I loved that Joe got the heat attacking Rey again. Rey has done well in getting Joe heat and he did the right thing tonight putting Joe over. I’m sure Rey will be back eventually and go for the title but right now this is Samoa Joe’s and I hope he makes this title mean a lot again.
Backstage Segment:
Cesaro says he prefers his actions in the ring to speak for himself. He says Ricochet is naive if he thinks he will beat him again.
Backstage Segments:
Ricochet says tonight is a preview of a rivalry that could last a decade. He says he took him down once and he will over tonight he can do it again.
In Ring Segment: Braun Strowman & Bobby Lashley: Arm Wrestling Contest
The two are told to lock hands but instead, Lashley slaps the hand of Strowman. Strowman gets heated and tells Lashley to come on. Lashley and Strowman then lock hands and the contest is underway. Lashley slips and breaks the hold. The two then chalk up their hands. They lock up again and restart. They go back and forth and Strowman eventually pulls Lashley down and wins. Lashley then throws chalk in Strowman’s face and unloads on him. Strowmanswins wildly but Lashley stays in control and hits a running power slam.
My Opinion:
Strowman showed tonight he may have the superior strength but the real story is Lashley proved he will do whatever it takes to get the job down. He even hit Strowman with a running power slam and that is a statement. When these two lock up on Friday it’s gonna be power versus power and I can imagine this is a gonna be a real fight. I’m interested to see what underhanded tactics Lashley uses o get an advantage in this one.
Backstage Segment:
Carmella is looking for R-Truth. Drake Maverick follows behind with a ref and EC3 telling them if they follow Carmella she will lead them to R-Truth.
Match 3: Nikki Cross w/ Alexa Bliss vs Peyton Royce w/ Billie Kay
Royce is able to land a big spinning heel kick to start the match. She then pounds on Cross in the corner. Royce beats her down and then throws her across the ring. Cross hangs her up and lands a roll-up but Royce kicks out. Royce tries a cover but Cross kicks out. Royce lands a kick out Cross and continues to toy with her with small shots here and there. Royce uses the ropes to wrench on the arms and shoulders of Cross. Royce throws her into the corner but Cross comes back and jumps on Royce. Royce throws her off and then goes after her arm again on the mat. Cross fights to her feet and hits her with elbows but is thrown back down to the mat. Royce goes for the cover but Cross kicks out. Royce continues to ground Cross and work on her arm. Cross gets to a verticle base again and tries elbows to the midsection again. Cross fights out of the corner and continues with strikes before taking down Royce. Cross hits her in the corner and hits a running bulldog. Cross goes for the cover but Royce kicks out. Cross then misses on a crossbody. Bliss flings coffee on Royce and Royce then spills the coffee of Bliss. Kay then knocks Bliss down. Cross is able to counter Royce and hit a neck breaker. Cross goes for the cover and gets the 1 2 3.
*** After the match Bliss gets in the ring and takes out Kay. Cross then raises her arm and tells her they won.
Winner: Nikki Cross
My Opinion:
Big win for Cross capitalizing off the distraction but once again I feel bad for Royce and Kay. Royce looked so good in this one but still can’t get the job done. The Iconics are champions and they aren’t booked like it. I can see this will now be a rivalry with them and Bliss and Cross and hopefully if Bliss and Cross get those tag titles they will defend them and make it count. I really want to see the Women’s Tag Team Championships succeed but they have been totally forgotten right now. Hopefully, this will change and Bliss and Cross seem like they could be the ones to do that.
In Ring Segment: Seth Rollins
Rollins says when he won the title he knew he was gonna have a bullseye on his back. He signed up for it and it’s what he wnated but it’s not what is happening with Brock Lesnar. Lesnar’s music then hits but he doesn’t come out. Rollins tells that Lesnar is playing games and he is sick of it along with everyone else. He tells Lesnar he use to be one of the most feared men on planted earth but he is just a shell of it. He says if there is a shred of The Beast left in him he dares him to come out and keep his promise right now. Instead here comes Baron Corbin.
Corbin tells him to forget about Lesnar and worry about him. He tells Rollins he is the dream crusher and he is taking the Universal Championship. Rollins tells him he will have to beat him and he doesn’t stand a chance. He tells him he will have to pry it from his cold dead hands. Corbin says he is the one who retired Kurt Angle and has no problem retiring Rollins ass. The two then brawl as Corbin gets in the ring. They go to the outside and Rollins drives Corbin into the barricade. Lesnar’s music hits again but he doesn’t come out again and it allows Corbin to hit End of Days. Lesnar’s music hits again and finally here comes Lesnar with a chair and a ref.
Lesnar hits Rollins with a low blow and he then tees off on Rollins with a chair. Lesnar then hits a German Suplex. Lesnar goes back to the chair and hits Rollins on the back. He then throws Rollins to the outside. Lesnar then hits Rollins with an F5 on the outside. Back in the ring, Lesnar goes to work on Rollins with the chair once more. Lesnar then hits another German Suplex. Lesnar tells Heyman he will cash it in on Friday. Heyman tells him he promised it now but Lesnar insists on Friday. He then grabs the title and throws it on Rollins. Lesnar comes back in the ring and hits Rollins with the briefcase. He goes back to the chair and continues the punishment.
My Opinion:
Lesnar made his point tonight and laid out Rollins. Although he could have easily cashed in, it makes sense he would wait for the PPV on Friday. Lesnar is a guy who does things on his own time and it seems he has supreme confidence he will get that title whenever he chooses to have it. Hopefully, Rollins is okay and he will make it to Friday. Rollins has so much on his plate heading into Super Show Down that it seems like it will be a long night for Rollins. Next week on Raw we almost certainly could be seeing a new Universal Champion.
Backstage Segment:
Rollins is being taken to the ambulance with Becky Lynch by his side. Rollins is loaded up and taken away, Lynch goes with him.
*** Firefly Fun House
Backstage Segment:
Triple H heads to the ring.
In Ring Segment: Triple H & Randy Orton
The Crowd chants NXT. Triple H says alright but I’m here to talk about Randy Orton, and here comes Orton! Triple H tells Orton it’s been a while since he stood there and stared him in the eyes. Triple H says these are always about drumming up interest but they’ve been doing this for about 20 years and says there is nothing they haven’t said. He tells Orton simply he is coming to Jeddah to kick his ass. Orton says he is not Batista, he is the Legend Killer. Orton says he would gladly beat Triple H and put another notch on his belt. Triple H says after watching the recap videos one thing stood out and it was when he said Orton would become a diamond in this business. Triple H tells Orton he is one of the best ever to step in this ring just like he said he would become. He tells Orton a lot of people have tried to put him down and they are all gone yet he is still here. He tells Orton he is not the one who will do it. Orton asks Triple H to promise him that before he steps into the ring he retrieves his balls from Stephanie’s purse. Triple H says he might just do that but they are so big and it’s a burden carrying them around. He tells Orton he wouldn’t know anything about that because he’s never had any balls. He tells Orton he will see him in Jeddah.
My Opinion:
This was nothing crazy but it was classic. I’m glad they did say too much because truly their rivalry over the years speaks for itself. We all know what they are fighting for and don’t need to hear about it all over again. Instead, it was a good exchange and each got a jab at the other. This is gonna be a match to prove which one is better, is the master still on top or did the student surpass him? I’m very curious to see which one will come out on top, but if history tells us anything it’s gonna be good!!!
Backstage Segment:
Charly asks for Corbin’s reaction to what happened to Rollins. He says it’s gotten him shaken p and he needs to get out here so he can celebrate. He says Lesnar did him a favor and Rollins doesn’t stand a chance at Super Show Down. he tells everyone they are looking at the next Universal Champion.
Match 4: Ricochet vs Cesaro
Cesaro makes the first real move with a shoulder tackle. He lands a backbreaker and goes for the cover but Ricochet kicks out. Cesaro stays on him and uses the ropes to wrench on the head of Cesaro. Cesaro continues to toy with Ricochet and keep him grounded on the mat. Cesaro then goes to a submission hold. Ricochet gets to a verticle base and is able to create separation with a hurricanrana. On the outside Ricochet flies off the barricade and sends Cesaro flying. Cesaro comes back and catches him with an elbow. Ricochet doesn’t let it affect him for long and hits Cesaro with a moonsault from the apron as Raw goes to break.
As Raw returns, Cesaro picks up Ricochet but Ricochet rolls through and gets a cover. Cesaro kicks out. Cesaro runs into the ring post and Ricochet goes to the top. Ricochet is met with an uppercut. Cesaro then suplexes him from the top to the mat. Cesaro goes for the cover but Ricochet kicks out. Ricochet fights off Cesaro with a series of fist strikes. Cesaro is able to counter Ricochet off a move from the apron. Cesaro locks in the swing and drops Ricochet after swinging him around 10 times. Cesaro hits the uppercut and goes for the cover but Ricochet kicks out. Ricochet is able to land a kick on the apron. Ricochet then lands a crossbody. Richet and Cesaro trade pins before Ricochet finally wraps him up and gets the 1 2 3.
*** After the match Cesaro hits Ricochet from behind. Cesaro then grabs a table but R-Truth is laying on it hiding under the ring. Ricochet then dumps Cesaro over the barricade. Truth is then surrounded by SuperStars from the back. Cedric Alexander takes out everyone on the outside and Truth gets away. Carmella takes out Drake Maverick in the ring and she and Truth escape.
Winner: Ricochet
My Opinion:
Another great match against these two and I wish they had more time. I know Ricochet got the victory tonight but man I wanna see this again. They just are special and I feel like if they had enough time we could get those classics as Cesaro had with Sheamus. I truly hope this rivalry isn’t over but if it is Ricochet came out on top and proved his worth tonight. Also, the 24/7 Title stuff was super funny. I love what Truth is doing and I’m the SuperStars are having fun with it. It’s been very entertaining to me.
In Ring Segment: The Undertaker
Taker asks do you ever what happens when you come face to face with death for the first time? He questions what could happen. He then tells Goldberg this Friday he will get the answers to that question. He says he doesn’t want Goldberg the family man, he wnats the unstoppable, mythical, icon Goldberg. He says if he brings any less then their first match will be their last. He tells Goldberg he will bring wrath he has never felt. He then says he will claim his soul for all of eternity and tells Goldberg he is next.
My Opinion:
Chilling words for Taker tonight but the point is clear. He wants that match we should have gotten so long ago and man I hope both of them bring their best fight and leave it all out there. Even if it isn’t the best, it is a special moment in history still. Undertaker was classic with this quick promo and it’ll be interesting to see how Goldberg responds tomorrow. The gauntlet has been laid down so let’s see what Goldberg has to say and which version of himself he brings to Jeddah. Either way, I’m so excited and ready for this ShowDown!
Final Thoughts:
I really enjoyed tonight, I thought there were a lot of entertaining segments and matches and it felt like a solid show to me. First, the Lesnar stuff was great. He played his mind games and then laid out Rollins and once again showed he is doing things his way. It helped sell the situation and now we sit here waiting to see what he will do on Friday. For Rollins, he needs to recover and get ready for Corbin but treat this as if it’s a Triple Threat situation and prepare for Lesnar cashing in. I thought the Reigns and Shane McMahon stuff was good as well, Reigns is now down but it allows him to rise and fight back. He has to get through Shane and now we know Mcintyre will be waiting for him at Stomping Grounds. I liked the confrontation with Triple H and Orton, it was simple but it reminds you of their storied history and I’m ready to see it dug up again! Also, I thought Samoa Joe getting the U.S. title was a good move and I loved Rey putting him over tonight. Joe is ready to defend and I can’t wait to see who steps up. I really enjoyed the Lacey Evans match tonight, she proved a lot out there and hung with the best in Charlotte. Becky though made her point and it keeps The Man on top. I loved Ricochet and Cesaro facing off again. I hope they do meet once more at least but right now Ricochet comes out as the man and proves he can get the job done. Finally, we get to The Deadman, The Undertaker! He had some chilling things to say and it seems like he is trying o get Goldberg to bring the best fight. Will it be as good as if it happened when Goldberg first came to WWE? No, but it is a special and moment we have always dreamed of it. I can’t wait to just soak it in and enjoy these two legends in there together. Also, let’s see how Goldberg responds, I’m sure it’ll be good tomorrow! I personally cannot wait for this Friday! I love nostalgic matches, I love matches that mean something, and I love the big fight feel this PPV is bringing. I hope everyone enjoys Super Show Down, it’s gonna be good!
Overall Rating: 5.5/10
