Jordan Rebooks Wrestlemania’s – Wrestlemania 27
Hey there ladies and gentlemen, Jordan Bass here once again, this time bringing you a blog I will be doing leading up to Wrestlemania coming up on April 3rd. This blog will feature me rebooking past Wrestlemania’s the way I think they should have gone, giving a full match card, reasons for certain match changes and what I would’ve done leading up to them, and the full results I would’ve gone with.
The first of these blogs will be rebooking one of the weakest Wrestlemania’s in years, Wrestlemania 27. Wrestlemania 27 didn’t have a bad card and it delivered in certain aspects. Randy Orton vs. CM Punk was an excellent match, Mysterio vs. Rhodes was very good, I mostly enjoyed Undertaker vs. Triple H, and the opener between Edge and Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship was a solid match as well. However, we had a very poor main event for the WWE Championship between The Miz and John Cena, we had a 90 second tag team match where The Corre took on Big Show, Kane, Kofi Kingston, and Santino Marella, we had a way too long match between Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole that should’ve ended with Lawler winning very quickly, an extremely short mixed tag team match that involved two of the best wrestlers in WWE at the time, John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler, and poor Divas Champion Eve Torres was totally left off of the show. Some of these matches I would’ve kept but just booked differently, others I would have drastically changed. Let me present what I would have done with the two World Titles first.
The Miz walked into Wrestlemania 27 as WWE Champion and I would have still had him walk into Mania as Champion if I were booking at the time, but he would have had a different opponent. Now we know that Alberto Del Rio won the only 40 Man Royal Rumble in history in 2011 and wrestled for the World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania, but I would not have had him win. Instead I would’ve had my legitimate prediction at the time win, that being John Morrison. Yes, he is my favorite wrestler of all time, but that has really nothing to do with why I would’ve put him in this spot. Morrison was being built for the big time for months at the end of 2010, earning big wins over Chris Jericho and Sheamus, and he even defeated “The Celtic Warrior” on pay-per-view at TLC 2010 in a classic ladder match to become #1 Contender to the WWE Championship. This led to Morrison facing The Miz on Raw for the WWE Championship in a fantastic Falls Count Anywhere match and coming up just short of winning the title. All of that I still would have done, but that FCA match left the fans wanting more of Miz/Morrison. Morrison was getting extremely over at the time, his pops were consistent and the fans were getting very, very into him.
It was time to pull the trigger on the “Prince of Parkour” at the 2011 Royal Rumble and have him win it, however he was eliminated by the New Nexus after a solid showing in the Rumble. I would have had Morrison go all the way and win the Royal Rumble by last eliminating Alberto Del Rio. Morrison was ready for that big of a match at the time and it would’ve created a big star for years to come and would have resulted in him staying in WWE, I guarantee that. Not to mention The Miz and John Morrison have history together and had a legitimate story going into it, as they were former tag team partners and multi-time Tag Team Champions. That match would’ve been a big deal and we would probably still have John Morrison as a legitimate top star in WWE to this day. Therefore I would’ve had in the main event of Wrestlemania, The Miz defending the WWE Championship against Royal Rumble winner John Morrison.
Edge was World Heavyweight Champion going into Wrestlemania 27. Wade Barrett just made his way to the Smackdown brand and became a member of a new faction known as The Corre. Wade Barrett was hot coming onto Smackdown but that momentum died out rather quickly after being dropped out of the main event scene. The Corre immediately began feuding with Edge once they formed but that didn’t last long. I think continuing that feud could’ve meant big things for Barrett and The Corre. Barrett could have won a #1 Contenders Elimination Chamber match and wrestled Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania. Barrett was more ready for a match like that at the time then Del Rio was, especially if they built him and The Corre better on Smackdown. I would have had Edge defending his World Heavyweight Championship against #1 Contender Wade Barrett.
Speaking of Edge, his former tag team partner Christian had just returned from injury heading into Wrestlemania at Elimination Chamber and attacked Alberto Del Rio who took him out and put him on the sidelines with a shoulder injury. This was a readymade Mania match, however they went with Edge/Del Rio and Christian didn’t wrestle. The story there was already made and the match would’ve made total sense and been one heck of an opening match. The same return could have happened with Christian attacking Del Rio after his win against Kofi Kingston at Elimination Chamber and the match could’ve been made coming out of that. I would have had Alberto Del Rio wrestling a returning Christian at Wrestlemania.
One match it looked as though they were building to in January was CM Punk vs. John Cena. I was really looking forward to that because by that point we had only seen Punk and Cena wrestle a few times in disappointingly short matches on Raw. Obviously we saw this feud months later heading into Money in the Bank, but at the time this would’ve been a big time Wrestlemania match, even bigger than it would’ve been had it taken place at a future Wrestlemania because this would have been the first real, big match encounter between these two. The New Nexus could have ganged up on Cena in the Royal Rumble match and eliminated him, causing more beef between Cena and Punk. I would have gone with a WWE Championship Elimination Chamber match since Morrison would’ve won the Rumble so there would obviously be no need for a #1 Contenders Elimination Chamber match, that would’ve been used for the World Title. Punk would have eliminated Cena from the match, leaving Cena with even more beef with Punk. Cena could have taken out members of New Nexus heading into the Show of Shows, similar to how Orton did in real life. This would have set CM Punk vs. John Cena for Wrestlemania 27.
This Wrestlemania should’ve truly been all about the rising stars, especially with Edge retiring right after this show and Orton and Cena still being top stars but needing new stars to go along with them. One of those stars that could’ve had his career saved if he started being built earlier was Dolph Ziggler. Ziggler started off the year hot, a great feud and excellent match with Edge at Royal Rumble, and then headed to Raw and immediately fell into the midcard. A great debut for Ziggler on Raw would’ve been an attack or promo on Randy Orton. A Mania match with “The Viper” would’ve put Ziggler directly on the map and would’ve been a great start for him on the Raw brand. The two proved that they put on amazing matches together; I would’ve been far from opposed to seeing them wrestle each other at Mania, especially in retrospect. I would’ve done Randy Orton vs. Dolph Ziggler in a grudge match.
You’re probably wondering where The Undertaker is at, right? Well, I honestly would’ve still gone with Triple H vs. The Undertaker. Takes two Wrestlemania attractions and puts them in one match, and I enjoyed their match in real life. Another match I would’ve kept the same is Cody Rhodes vs. Rey Mysterio. I loved the build to this match and the match itself was very good. It also was great to see Rhodes go over Mysterio. Also would have kept Jerry Lawler vs. Michael Cole, but shortened the match to 3-4 minutes, just basically a squash for Lawler and have that dreadful feud end. Lawler shutting up Cole in quick fashion in his Wrestlemania match debut would have been a great moment.
As for the rest of the midcard, I would have ditched the Money in the Bank PPV and just went ahead and done Money in the Bank on Wrestlemania again featuring from Smackdown Drew McIntyre, Kofi Kingston, Big Show, and Kane, and from Raw, Sheamus, Daniel Bryan, Evan Bourne, and Ted DiBiase. That gets all the midcarders from Raw and Smackdown that legit deserved Mania spots on the show.
The Divas Championship would have been on the line as I feel Eve was sadly cheated out of a Mania match. I honestly would have gone with a face vs. face match between Eve and Natalya. That would have been fresh as LayCool had been dominating the Divas Championship picture for a long time by that point. Michelle McCool gets the special guest referee spot to get LayCool technically on the show because they had worked hard, and it would’ve been an interesting story to have the heel diva refereeing a match between her biggest rivals. I would have done Eve vs. Natalya for the Divas Championship with Michelle McCool as special guest referee.

I really really like the idea of Natalya vs Eve. It would’ve been a great match and would’ve gave Natalya a chance to prove herself to Vince. Maybe if that match had happen, Natalya would be taken more seriously by creative today
I don’t think CM Punk vs John Cena should have been the main event of the show, but besides that I agree with everything else.
I think it should have been the main event*
