This Week in NXT 07/24/19
Another great week in the NXT world, folks.
First and foremost, I’ve got two words for you…Pete Dunne! What a nice surprise to see him return to NXT, challenging my personal favourite, the Velveteen Dream and the Undisputed Era’s Roderick Strong for the NXT North American Championship at Takeover: Toronto. Arguably amongst the elite of rising stars in NXT, all three men have something to prove. Velveteen has to keep the dream alive, Strong has to win the gold, and Dunne, well, he just needs to win.
Adam Cole is convinced the Undisputed Era will be “draped in championship gold” by the end of the next Takeover and if that prophecy is fulfilled, things will take a turn in NXT as a whole. These are make or break moments for every superstar involved. The amount of pressure to prevail is immense, the room for error, miniscule. The Undisputed Era’s involvement in the NXT program has proven to be impactful beyond measure so I’m not quite sure what to expect at Takeover. Will there be new UNDISPUTED Tag Team Champions? Will there be a new UNDISPUTED North American Champion? Will Adam Cole retain his NXT Championship? Only two more weeks until we find out!
There is unrest in the women’s division and that was evident this week. Mia Yim has some scores to settle with Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir, Bianca Belair reminded the NXT Universe that she still has IT, and Candice LeRae came for HEEL Shirai which was a defining moment in their feud. As Nigel McGuiness pointed out, “hell hath no fury like Candice LeRae scorned.” So what comes next?
Quickly, I want to remind you all how close we are getting to Takeover: Toronto. I’m at the edge of my seat each week with all of the commotion going on in every storyline. What are you looking forward to most? Let us know in the comments!
