On Tuesday there were two big shows for WWE, SDLive in Sin City (a small big show to fill time because of the huge gap between Summerslam and Hell In A Cell) and the final of the Mae Young Classic. SDLive was a pretty good show with Owens calling the show ‘The Kevin Owens Show’ all night. He went round telling people they were fired and even gave Aiden English an audition to sing the new theme song. These segments were building up to Vince returning addressing the situation in the main event. On the show the US, Tag and Women’s title were defended. AJ Styles defended the US championship against Tye Dillinger in what was a decent match but it for sure should have had longer than 8 minutes in order to get Tye over. The Usos lost the tag titles to The New Day which was match of the night for sure. The reason New Day keep losing and winning back the title are because the long term is for them to have the record amount of reigns because WWE want people to see them as the greatest tag team of all time. The Women’s title match was Natalya vs Naomi which was Naomi’s rematch. The match itself was poor and the entire SDLive women’s division feels week right now. When Vince did address the situation and announced Shane vs Owens at Hell In A Cell, Owens gave a ‘stiff’ head butt which actually connected. The segment was great and definitely put Owens over but still it was a dangerous move that for sure a 72 year old man shouldn’t be involved in, it’s crazy to think some people still haven’t learnt after the entire Shibata situation.
The final of the Mae Young Classic was a great match between Shayna Baszler and Kairi Sane which Sane won. The whole tournament was a huge success for WWE with it being the top 7 most watched videos on the WWE Network the past week. However according to the Dirty Sheets Podcast (who had a 100% record until recently however they have gotten a lot incorrect since) have reported that Baszler was meant to win the tournament up to an hour before SDLive and Ronda Rousey was meant to debut on SDLive interrupting Charlotte which would be the start of the four horsewomen of NXT vs The Four Horsewomen of UFC feud which would conclude at Survivor Series, but both Ronda and Shayna couldn’t agree deals with WWE before the show started and WWE didn’t want to tease something they couldn’t deliver on. Dave Meltzer has reported that the feud is expected to start very soon. Kairi Sane has been announced to be part of a fatal four way match for the vacant NXT Women’s Title at NXT Takeover Houston
New Japan Pro Wrestling had the first of 3 Destruction shows this past weekend with the main event being Suzuki vs Elgin. The match was horrible with Elgin just a being screwed over by Suzuki Gun the entire match.
Adam Cole, Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly will go under the name of CFO The Undisputed Future in NXT, as announced on WWE Shop this week.
Stephanie McMahon’s book will be further delayed she has announced this week. Many fans are disappointed but with these type of things there isn’t much people can do.
Sasha Banks missed the final of the Mae Young Classic due to the fact she was touring in Australia along with the majority of the Raw roster. Sasha who was already not happy with the company will likely be even closer to leaving now however I highly doubt she will walk out.
Kassius Ohno will challenge ICW champion Joey Coffey this weekend at an ICW show. WWE seem like they are furthermore improving their relationship with ICW.
Anthem will not be selling GFW and are about to start their own wrestling network which will be called ‘The GFW Network’ and the tag line will be ‘The alternative wrestling network’ referring to WWE as the top Wrestling network. The price will be around $7.99 a month and will have all the classic TNA content as well as full GFW episodes 10 days after they have been released in North America. They plan to eventually add some AAA content to their network and other promotions content as they expand. This is how they believe they will make the company profitable
