WWE Hell in a Cell 2017 Predictions
Hello Misfits! This is The Wrestling Classic here with my predictions for this Sunday’s Hell in a Cell PPV. It is a Smackdown exclusive event this year whereas last year it was a Raw PPV. Raw will get TLC this year which was a Smackdown PPV last year. I kind of wish they would drop the Hell in a Cell name for the PPV because I’m not a fan of the stipulation PPVs. I mean it’s not like this is the only night the Hell in the Cell match could take place but it is the only night its guaranteed which to me feels like it takes away from the match concept. There has been way too many forgettable Hell in a Cell matches since this became a PPV since 2009 which doesn’t make the match feel that dangerous or forgettable. If the Cell takes years off your career how have Triple H, Undertaker and Randy Orton been wrestling consistently for so many years straight. I would love if this PPV was called Halloween Havoc or some other new creative name with the possibility of Hell in a Cell matches. Anyway I am looking forward to this show and I do feel like there is a chance these Cell matches could be great. The Fashion Police will also return on this show as well with the Fashion Files which I’m looking forward too. Lets move forward though.
Kick-Off Show Match
Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin vs. The Hype Bros

The Hype Bros have had some tension between them due to constantly losing. Gable and Benjamin have barley been on television for the past 3-4 weeks. I don’t think the Hype Bros pick up a win here just to be happy go lucky and hype again and it would be ridiculous for Gable and Benjamin to lose just three matches into their time as a tag team when they’re barley on TV. I have to go with Gable and Benjamin here and the Hype Bros continue to struggle to further their story.
Prediction – Shelton Benjamin & Chad Gable
Bobby Roode vs. Dolph Ziggler
Image via WWE.com
This is Bobby Roode’s main roster PPV debut. Dolph Ziggler has been the first PPV match for a couple of NXT call ups in recent history including Nakamura. Ziggler has been playing this gimmick that he’s not respected as the greatest in ring performer he thinks he is and that everyone else is getting over because of their over-the-top entrances and theatrics. Bobby Roode a man who is loved for his entrance and theme wants to prove Ziggler wrong. I think the Ziggler project is over and its time to focus on the future with these new stars. Similar what happened with Nakamura, Ziggler will ultimately put Roode over. It will be a solid match and I only wonder if the rivalry will continue moving forward. If not, I wonder whats next for both guys.
Prediction – Bobby Roode
United States Championship
AJ Styles (C) vs. Baron Corbin

Baron Corbin has had some pretty bad luck these past few months. I mean from losing the MITB briefcase, losing to Cena at Summerslam and even suffering defeat to Tye Dillinger, things are looking great for him. This is Corbins chance to redeem himself. Styles is the fucking man and the best wrestler at this particular moment in my mind. I dont remember him having a bad match. My only issue is that Styles has the potential to elevate the championship while Corbin would just be holding it. Also the fact that Styles and Owens had just recently played hot potato with the United States Championship, I think Styles retains here. The feud with Corbin continues.
Prediction – AJ Styles
Women’s Championship
Natalya (C) vs. Charlotte Flair

I’m always happy when we get Natalya and Charlotte facing each other. Two second generation wrestlers who are able to tell a great story in that ring and have great chemistry with each other. They have feuded previously putting on great matches at NXT and on PPV. I don’t think this match will be any different. Last year at this PPV Charlotte defeated Sasha Banks to become the Women’s Champion inside of a Hell in a Cell. Can Charlotte become champion at this event again? Will Natalya continue her long deserved reign as champion showing that she really is the top woman of the Smackdown Women’s Division? I think the wildcard here is Carmella, who is the women’s Money in the Bank holder meaning she could cash in at any time. I know she didn’t play a part at the last PPV but I could definitely see her playing a distraction here which would allow Natalya to remain champion and Charlotte to go into a short angle with Carmella.
Prediction – Natalya
Randy Orton vs. Rusev

This rivalry has been pretty entertaining thus far. It’s mainly been RKOs outta nowhere and quick matches where one got the upper hand on the other. Orton has been the more dominant one so far in this rivalry so I can see Rusev getting the upper hand here with a victory. The match they had at Summerslam didn’t really count in my mind and this would be there first official match. I think Orton is at that point of his career where he’s trying to put these younger guys over like he did with Jinder Mahal. I think Rusev gets the victory here, continues the celebration on Smackdown Live and Orton comes back for revenge, thus continuing the feud. Its also solid 50/50 booking which I feel like the WWE does occasionally. However, Cena and Orton just to seem to be at that point in their careers where they are giving back and Rusev desperately needs something to help build him back up.
Prediction – Rusev
Hell in a Cell
WWE Tag Team Championship
The New Day (C) vs. The Usos

This match has the potential to steal the show. The last couple of Smackdown PPVs, these two teams were the best match of the night. Adding in the cell as a factor gives them more creativity to making this match more special and unique compared to their last ones. I think these two teams are going to tear the house down again and that this will be the final match of their rivalry. That being said, I really do want the Usos to go over and they might. However, something tells me The New Day does only because Smackdown needs a babyface tag team on top of the card. I’m rooting for the Usos but my gut is saying choose the New Day for predictions sake.
Prediction – The New Day
WWE Champion
Jinder Mahal (C) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
Image via WWE.com
I was surprised to find out that this match wasn’t going to be in the cell. I thought it made the most sense for it to be in a cell considering Mahal’s henchmen, The Singh Brothers, interfere in every match. This would be the perfect match to keep them out. That or you know Bryan or Shane could ban them from ringside. However this is going to be to be you normal match for the WWE Championship match. Under those circumstances I dont see Shinsuke overcoming the odds. He seems to be too easily distracted by the Singh Brothers and as much as it could be written that he can out smart them, the question is will he? I dont know if the company feels like they’re ready for him to be champion. I wouldn’t be shocked if Nakamura does pull this one out to become Champion but I just feel like Jinder Mahal continues his reign for a little longer. I don’t know if the casual fans have been exposed to Nakamura enough to get behind him as a babyface champion. Its’s easier to do that shocking victory for someone people dont expect when the wrestler is a heel in my opinion. I think as a babyface the people need to already be behind you.
Prediction – Jinder Mahal
Falls Count Anywhere Hell in a Cell
Shane McMahon vs. Kevin Owens
Image via WWE.com
I have been looking forward to this feud since before the brand extension. When they ended up on the same brand, I knew it was bound to happen. These two just have great chemistry between each other as two guys who wouldn’t get along. I imagined they would have a great street fight or something but a Hell in a Cell match works just as well. Also when you add the stipulation of it being falls count anywhere. The added stipulation really does defeat the purpose of the Hell in a Cell match but I understand its a way to let Shane get his stuff in and allow the match to go all over the place. I think this match will be everything we expect and more. It’s a personal rivalry. Shane does whatever it takes for us to get our moneys worth. I mean everyone was upset about him facing Styles at Wrestlemania and it may have been the actual best in-ring match of the night. Shane-O will make sure we won’t be disappointed. KO with all his trash-talking, wrestling skill and overall entertaining mannerisms won’t let us down either. I think this match is going to be fantastic. I dont think Shane is going over because it just wouldn’t make any sense. I definitely see Owens picking up the victory here with Shane looking strong for putting up a fight. Possibly even gaining Owens respect but I doubt it.
Prediction – Kevin Owens
