WWE No Mercy 2017 Predictions
Hello Misfits! This is The Wrestling Classic here with my predictions for this Sunday’s No Mercy. Last year was No Mercy was a Smackdown PPV but it looks like this year Raw and Smackdown switched up the PPVs so Raw will now get No Mercy and Smackdown will be able to host the annual Hell in the Cell PPV. Raw has done a good job on making No Mercy feel like a big show with its two massive main events. “The Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar defends his Universal Champion against the “Monster Among Men” Braun Strowman. Also the franchise of the WWE John Cena takes on the WWE chosen one for the future Roman Reigns. Two matches that are worthy for one of the big four PPV. I think due to those two big matches this PPV will definitely be memorable whether its for it being successful or it being a letdown. Now let me share with you how I think these matches at No Mercy might play out.
Cruiserweight Championship
Neville (C) vs. Enzo Amore

Following Big Cass’s unfortunate injury, the Enzo Amore/Big Cass program came to an abrupt end. There wasn’t really a plan of where to go with Enzo Amore so he hit the scales and ended up on 205 Live. Enzo Amore then put on his jet pack and shot up to the top of the division becoming the number one contender for the Cruiserweight Championship. Now the perfect ending to this story would be Enzo winning the Cruiserweight Champion as the most unexpected guy to dethrone the King of the Cruiserweights. It would be like the Jester finding away to steal a victory over the King and taking his crown. I did however appreciate how they led up to this match by having Enzo steal victories by cheating to show that even as a babyface no rules apply to this bonified hustla and that could be dangerous for Neville. My only issue here is that Neville just recently lost the championship to Tozawa and won it right back. I dont know if I am fan of seeing him drop it so soon again. I know the WWE doesn’t care about the championship changing hands and treating it like a hot potato but personally I would like to see Neville overcome the odds. Thus making Enzo dig deep and get serious about winning the championship to further develop his character and create a more compelling storyline for 205 Live.
Prediction – Neville
Finn Balor vs. Bray Wyatt

The rivalry I looked forward to when the superstar shake up happened but forget about every week after Raw airs. I honestly forget about it every week. I’m actually not sure what they even did since Summerslam to build to this rematch. I do know they made it clear that the Demon wouldn’t fighting Bray at No Mercy but it’ll be normal rockstar Balor. I have a feeling this rivalry isn’t over yet even though I don’t really know what it’s about. However, from what I do know if the Demon beat Bray, than Bray needs to show he can beat regular Balor to lead to Bray having to face the Demon again. Does that make sense? If this rivalry is coming to a close, then yes definitely Balor going over would make sense. It just sucks how Wyatt rarely accomplishes anything in his rivalries. I think he feud with Orton is the only where he reached the highest levels of success and left it as the victor. I don’t remember the last time Bray felt relevant since the House of Horrors match. The entire feud with Rollins just felt like transitional phase for both of them and forgettable. Let Bray feel relevant here and beat Balor. Its just hard to make a prediction for this match. I want both guys to be relevant and to be more invested in this feud. I really dig both guys but the creative storytelling has been bad and I feel like its been considered an afterthought for the Raw creative team.
Prediction – Bray Wyatt
Tag Team Champion
Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose (C) vs. Cesaro & Sheamus

Boy! It has been great to see Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose back together again and riding high on top as the tag team champions. I will admit the whole build up of them getting back together for the first time in 3-4 years was produced beautifully and the fans were behind it. The match at Summerslam was badass and it was an amazing moment seeing Rollins and Ambrose walk out as tag team champions considering their history as Shield brothers and bitter enemies. However, I’m over it now. Its already gotten stale and I want to see what happens next between them. The thing is Rollins and Ambrose are both top stars and both former WWE Champions in recent history. The last thing I want to see is them become staples in the tag team divisions when they are so many other tag teams apart of the Raw tag team division who deserve some spotlight. Also, if Cesaro and Sheamus lose here, where would they go? I’d rather see tension between Ambrose/Rollins than between Cesaro/Sheamus. I think Sheamus and Cesaro should still remain THE BAR of the tag division. Let Ambrose and Rollins lose here. Then move forward, whether you want it to happen this same night or slowly build to it over the next few weeks, but have Ambrose dirty deeds Rollins and turn heel. Reignite their feud but this time both characters playing the opposite role. Plus, we haven’t seen Ambrose as a heel since 2013 and I think its where he will prosper.
Prediction – Cesaro & Sheamus
Women’s Championship
Fatal Five Way
Alexa Bliss (C) vs. Nia Jax vs. Emma vs. Sasha Banks vs. Bayley

Well, welcome back to the division on Raw that they have no idea what direction they want to go in but are going to make it seem like do while the championship can be either baked, fried or mashed. I definitely would have loved to see this be Sasha vs. Alexa with a stipulation but I will not complain about giving a couple of more girls some air time. Emma hasn’t done much since returning back to her “Evil Emma” gimmick after the failed Emmalina debut besides cause a stir on social media. As for Nia Jax, I just feel like she has been poorly written for all 2017. A couple of weeks ago Sasha made Nia tap out but we’re still supposed to believe she’s this unbeatable monster. Once again this is nothing against the girls but in the creative team for not focusing on the small details when it comes to the women. There are layers here though. Sasha and Alexa have beef and have been feuding for months now playing hot potato with the Womens Championship in classic Raw booking fashion. Nia and Alexa are friends but Nia wants the championship. Emma has been pushing for a opportunity on social media and it worked, and she somehow got involved in this match. For the sake of the title not changing hands again and the fact it makes sense with Alexa’s character, I see Alexa finding a way to steal the victory and beating the odds.
I wrote the above prediction before Bayley made return and got added to the match. As much as I fear that the woman child might win the women’s championship, I still feel like it makes the most sense for Alexa to find a way to overcome the odds. I really think Bayley is a great wrestler and I loved her character on NXT but these days I just dont get what her character is. Bayley has been so poorly booked on the main roster and pushed too hard too fast, it kind of hurt her. The hardcore fans are already turning on her regardless if loyal huggers want to believe it or not. I know Asuka is coming so I’d think Nia, Sasha or Bayley would be better for when she arrives but let Alexa ride this out until Asuka rehabs her injury. Plus I dont like the title being passed around.
Prediction – Alexa Bliss
John Cena vs. Roman Reigns

A match big enough to headline a Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, Summerslam or Survivor Series will take place this Sunday. It’s the franchise and face of the WWE, John Cena facing off against the companies chosen one for the future Roman Reigns. It is like Superman facing off against Superman. Its crazy how many big dream matches Cena has been having as of late. It’s almost as if he knows he’s going to be there a lot less or can’t guarantee a set schedule so he’s trying to give the fans what they want while he’s there. Now there is absolutely no way that Cena winning here buries Roman. A matter of fact I can see Cena winning here if they are planning to revisit this feud when Cena comes back around for one of the bigger PPVs. Cena losing here would do wonders for Roman Reigns though. It wouldn’t hurt Cena at all either. I mean in the past 6-7 years we’ve seen Cena put over many guys. Cena has put over Punk, Bryan, Rollins, Ambrose, Owens, Styles and Nakamura in recent history. For Roman, it would not only be another achievement on his long list of achievements but also be another thing he can gloat about to get the fans to dislike him even more. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Reigns earn Cena’s respect and Cena passing the torch to him. Maybe Reigns would go full heel and attack Cena after beating him as if he’s not asking for his spot but taking it. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see Cena beat Reigns only for Reigns to reevaluate his position with the company and himself. In conclusion to these thoughts, Reigns hasn’t won a match on PPV cleanly since Wrestlemania so I’ll say this is the match where Reigns picks up his long overdue PPV win.
Prediction – Roman Reigns
Universal Championship
Brock Lesnar (C) w/ Paul Heyman vs. Braun Strowman
Image via WWE.com
It’s a beast against a monster and neither one of them have any chill. I feel like similar to Summerslam, this match is going to be a demolition derby. Neither one of these guys have any regard for the rules so I do see this getting chaotic and crazy. I personally think this will be memorable for the story that will be told. Braun bringing the fight to Lesnar to the point where it looks like Brock is actually struggling similar to the story the match Lesnar had with Joe. The difference between the matches was that Joe used his toughness and submission ability to ware down Lesnar, whereas Braun will be using his strength and ability to take abuse. I definitely do see Lesnar getting some impressive german suplexes on Strowman and I also think we’ll get some near falls that will have us on the edge of our seats. We will also see Heyman acting as if Lesnar is being murdered in front him when Strowman in dominant. Personally, I would love to see this just end as a no contest or a double DQ because I dont want to see either man take the fall. If I had to choose, I’d rather see Braun beat Lesnar to really make Strowman a star because Lesnar would remain over. Lesnar’s rivalry with Goldberg is proof of that. However, I do feel like Lesnar beating Strowman really doesn’t hurt Strowman but definitely doesn’t benefit him either. I feel like Strowman should benefit from this opportunity instead of losing all this hype by being conquered by the beast. My prediction is that Lesnar remains champion but with a finish where nobody really goes over.
Prediction – Brock Lesnar
