WWE Roadblock: End of Line Predictions
This Sunday Raw hosts their final exclusive PPV on 2016 and its name the same as this years WWE Network special from February Roadblock. However this time the PPV has a tagline which is “End of the Line”, which is fitting since this the last stop in 2016 before we head into 2017 and the Road to Wrestlemania begins. Its also very fitting because it could be the end of storylines and even a friendship. The rivalry between Charlotte and Sasha Banks comes to the end of its line in a 30 minute Iron Man match. Roadblock could also be the end of the line for JeriKO as the results of this night could lead to the demise of their friendship. Smackdown Live has put on great exclusive PPV’s thus far with the three they put on this year. Raw’s Clash of Champions was forgettable, but Hell in the Cell will go down in history as an event where history was made due to the first ever Women’s Hell in a Cell which was also the first time the Women headlined a PPV as the main event. This PPV is pretty stacked and I should be more excited for it, but the build up for the event has been lacklustre. I almost didn’t even realize that it was this Sunday. The first Roadblock this year was super entertaining, I’m hoping the same for this one. Now lets get to my predictions.
Triple Threat
Cruiserweight Championship
Rich Swann (C) vs. Brian Kendrick vs. TJ Perkins
Image via WWE.com
All three men involved in this match have held the cruiserweight title in its newest incarnation since the rebirth of the Cruiserweight Division. Perkins was the title when he was victorious in the CWC tournament. Kendrick defeated Perkins for the Championship at Hell in a Cell. Rich Swann defeated Kendrick on the first ever episode of 205 live to become the third ever Cruiserweight Champion. In just a matter of months we’ve had three Cruiserweight Champions in the new lineage. That plays a huge factor in my prediction. Personally, I don’t want to see the title change hands those many times again for a while. The title changes in the division shouldn’t be as quick as most of the superstars who are a part of the division. In my mind if they have a champion who has a longer reign, it helps the championship and the division gain more prestige. I understand why the titles changed hands already in the division but whoever walks out champion on Sunday, should remain champion up until Wrestlemania at the most. Friendship has played a major role in the championship scene for the cruiserweight division, as its been the backstory of almost every rivalry. Kendrick used his longtime friendship with Perkins to gain sympathy from Perkins when faking an injury to win the title. Swann considers Perkins a friend now, although on the most recent episode of 205 Live Perkins made it clear that he is not Swann’s friend. My gut is saying that Swann retains the title, however I’m gonna go with my brain and say Kendrick takes advantage of Swann and Perkins friendship and sneaks away with the Cruiserweight Title.
Prediction – Brian Kendrick
Big Cass vs. Rusev w/ Lana
Image via WWE.com
Enzo Amore was brutally assaulted by Rusev after a master plot by Rusev and Lana to use Lana to lure Enzo to their Hotel Room went as planned. Big Cass is looking to avenge his little buddy Enzo by brutally assaulting Rusev in return. It leaves wondering what other tricks Lana and Rusev might have to make Big Cass look as foolish as Enzo did laying in the hotel hallway in his boxer briefs or will be see Big Cass get the better of Rusev and Lana. I imagine we’ll see Enzo make his triumphant return to even the odds this Sunday and Big Cass will walk out victorious. Big Cass and Enzo getting the best of Rusev will infuriate Rusev causing this rivalry to continue. I don’t think this rivalry comes to an end this Sunday but it’s only going to get more interesting from here on.
Prediction – Big Cass
Sami Zayn vs. Braun Strowman
Image via WWE.com
Sami Zayn has had very little direction on the Raw roster since the brand extension and he’s finally had enough it. Braun Strowman has been unstoppable since the brand extension and begging for real competition. Sami Zayn believes he’s the competitor with enough skill, passion and heart to defeat the big man. The weeks leading the match Sami Zayn has been viciously beat up by Braun anytime he’s tried to confront him only to be saved by Foley stopping the beat down. Foley continued to egg on Zayn by claiming that he didn’t think that Zayn could beat Braun to bring the fire out of Zayn. Braun doesn’t need this victory but suffering a loss could end this dominate chapter of Braun’s career. Zayn needs this victory and loss here would just put him back in the same rut he’s been in the past 5-6 months. I know I want to see Zayn bring the fight to Braun like nobody has yet. I do want to see Braun slowly destruct Zayn as well, while Zayn keeps fighting with his heard with total disregard to his health and body. I want Sami Zayn to beat Braun but I don’t think he does just yet. I feel like Zayn will put up a fight but feel like he let us down being forced to challenge Braun one last time before the year ends.
Prediction – Braun Strowman
Tag Team Championship
The New Day (C) vs. Cesaro & Sheamus
Image via WWE.com
The New Day have become the longest reigning tag team champions and I congratulate them on that, they’ve set s new record. However, Im ready for them to drop the tag team titles. I’ve been ready for them to do so for the better half of this year. I still stick with my original thought that The New Day will be over and a cash cow with or without the tag team titles. The titles are nothing but a minor prop to their overall schtick. I’ve said that time and time again in almost every predictions and review blog I have written on shows they were involved in. Cesaro and Sheamus were in a feud against each other because the Raw writers had nothing better for them to do and then were forced to tag team when that rivalry had no clear finish. At first the tag team felt forced but now the team of Cesaro and Sheamus has become super entertaining. I feel like for the sake of continuation and rejuvenating the tag team division which has been crushed for the sake of New Day beating a record, Cesaro and Sheamus walk out of Roadblock starting the New Year the tag team champions, that is if the WWE isn’t set of having The New Day be champions for an entire year.
Prediction – Cesaro & Sheamus
Chris Jericho vs. Seth Rollins
Image via WWE.com
This match will be good, that I can guarantee. However, I’m not invested in it whatsoever. I mean their connection is that Jericho has basically screwed Rollins out of every title shot he’s gotten in the past 3 months and now they’re facing each other. Although, Rollins actual heat is still with Triple H and Jericho seems to be having his own issues with Owens and these two haven’t really seemed to actually have any personal issues with each other. Both guys are established stars with nothing to lose even they don’t walk out victorious. If anything their separate storylines continue. With wishful thinking, I’d hope we’d see Triple H but I know that won’t be the case. I’ve been waiting to see Triple H return to continue this rivalry with Seth Rollins since he screwed him in August but it looks like they want to hold off on that happening until the New Year. I mean I just find it ridiculous that Rollins wouldn’t be able to find Triple H when he works for the company that the Game is the COO of. I mean if I was Rollins I’d go find him at WWE HQ, the performance centre or at a NXT Press Conference. It’s kind of unbelievable that these two wouldn’t cross paths in 4-5 months but whatever. Everything Rollins has done since Triple H turned on him has seemed pointless because in the back of your head, you’re just waiting for the continuation of the Triple H and Rollins feud to resurface. Now with that in my mind it’s almost predictable that the main storyline that will be focused on in this match will be the one surrounding the Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho friendship. I think Owen’s tries to fix their friendship and comes out to help Jericho against Jericho’s wishes but it backfires leading to Rollins being victorious.
Prediction – Seth Rollins
30 Minute Iron Woman Match
Women’s Title
Sasha Banks (C) vs. Charlotte
Image via WWE.com
It’s the final match of the historic and epic rivalry between Charlotte Flair and Sasha Banks. It’s also been a very controversial rivalry among some wrestling fans who are tired of seeing these two face each other month after month with the title switching hands every big match. However, my biggest issue wasn’t with how many times these two had wrestled each other and how many times the title changed hands but more about how Raw had issues booking the rest of the women’s roster with all its focus on this one rivalry. 5-10 years from now people will be talking about this rivalry and how important it was for women’s wrestling in the WWE. I mean they wrestled in the first ever Women’s Hell in a Cell. They were the first two women to main event Raw twice and first ever women to main event a PPV. If any rivalry was to set the bar for the future of women’s wrestling, it was this one. Sasha and Charlotte have done an amazing job of making sure every single one of their matches were different and told a different story. I enjoyed every single one of their matches and I’m sure they’re going to make the most out of this Iron Woman match. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the main event and the best match of the evening. The tagline for this event is perfect for this rivalry as it really is the end of the line for the feud. I’m hoping that following this match Sasha Banks moves forward in her rivalry with Nia Jax and Charlotte continues the feud she began with Bayley. As for my prediction for this match, for the sake of the title not changing hands again and personal feelings that Sasha Banks should get a longer title reign compared to her previous two, I want Sasha Banks to leave this match victorious. I expect it to be a close match in score but ultimately Sasha Banks getting Charlotte to tap out to a Bank Statement in the final moments.
Prediction – Sasha Banks
Universal Championship
Kevin Owens (C) vs. Roman Reigns
Image via WWE.com
When the rumour of this match first started floating around, I wasn’t very excited for it. I don’t hate Roman Reigns. I’m not one of those guys, I actually enjoy Roman Reigns. In all honestly, I just hate how his character was being portrayed and how it felt like he was being forced on us but other than that, I never disliked Roman. I just felt like he should have been more of a badass, turned heel once already embracing the hate he got and had different road to the main event then the one he had. That is just my personal opinion, but by no means do I think he’s not entertaining to watch and incapable of putting on a good match. On the other hand, if you didn’t know already, Kevin Owens is one of my favourite wrestlers of the New Era. I don’t doubt these two will put on a great match, I mean they just recently did when Reigns beat Owens clean to win this shot at the title. I just dislike the fact that Roman Reigns is the United States Champion and in the main event match for the Universal Championship. Having the old school wrestling mind that I have, I’d rather him defend his United States title against a suitable opponent rather facing the Universal Champion. The last thing I want to see is Roman Reigns with two belts, that’s the last thing the WWE should want to do to try to get Roman over with the entire fanbase. Now looking at the other person in the match, Kevin Owens needs to defeat Reigns. As I mentioned before, Reigns defeated Owens clean on Raw and Owens as the champion needs to redeem himself with a victory over Reigns. I predict some sort of swerve where Jericho still helps Owens retain the title to the shock of everyone. I still think there will be tension between Owens and Jericho the next night since Owens failed to get Jericho the victory if my predictions are correct so their rivalry can continue. However, I don’t see Kevin Owens losing the Universal Title just yet. Personally, I would love to see him hold it until Wrestlemania. Imagine Sami Zayn won the Royal Rumble?…
Prediction – Kevin Owens
