WWE Extreme Rules 2018 Predictions
Hello Misfits! This is The Wrestling Classic here with my predictions for this Sunday’s Extreme Rules PPV. Its is the most exteme PPV of the year where most matches are supposed to have stipulations. However, there hasn’t really been any stipulations announced yet. Thus far we have an one Extreme Rules match, a steel cage match and a 30 minute Iron-Man match. Although, I havent felt very sports entertained by the current product in the last couple of weeks so I dont feel as hyped for this PPV as per usual. I waited with anticipation for Money in the Bank but Extreme Rules has the potential to be as forgettable as Backlash. It also has the potential to be really good. There has been times where I wasn’t really looking forward to a PPV and it ended up being better than I expected because my hopes weren’t high. Every championship besides Universal Championship is on the line but the WWE is hoping to fill that void with a big match between Lashley and Reigns. Let me share how I think all of this will play out.
Finn Balor vs. Constable Corbin

This is a match between two directionless guys who have the potential to be top guys. I’m not even sure if this is going to make it to the main card but if it does, I dont expect it to be a 30 minute broadway. Corbin has been put in this Constable role now, which leaves me just feeling like he doesnt need to win here. Finn NEEDS this victory. It does absolutely nothing for Corbin unless they’re planning to continue this moving forward. Personally, I prefer Balor be involved in something more important for Summerslam. I’m rooting for the leader of the Balor Club.
Prediction – Finn Balor
Tables Match
The New Day vs. SanIty
Image via WWE.com
This match was just added this week and I’m glad it was because there was a lack of stipulation matches at an event called Extreme Rules. Therefore, adding a tables match is great. I think it makes complete sense that SanIty would work against The New Day as it allows it to be three against three. This match is going to chaos and I enjoy that. Both teams are stacked with talent and I think this will be SanIty’s first time to shine on the main roster. On that note there is no way I see SanIty taking the L here because for them to be considered a threat moving forward they have to get the W here. The New Day is invincible. There is no way a loss hurts them and they will continue to find ways to stay over in loss. SanIty makes an impact at Extreme Rules. This is going to be fun.
Prediction – SanIty
Raw Tag Team Championship
Bray Wyatt & Matt Hardy (C) vs. The B-Team

WWE.com
The B-Team is in midst of their cinderella story as their recent winning streak could lead them to becoming the tag team champions. It seemed unlikely only a couple of months ago but now they’re the number one contenders with a ton of momentum. The only thing in their way from achieving their ultimate goal is the current tag team champions hailing from the Broken Universe, Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt. As much as I think it would be a cool moment to see the B-Team pick up this, I still think Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy retain. Hopefully leading to the B-Team having to visit the Hardy compound on an episode of Raw to finally have their championship moment.
Prediction – Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy
Smackdown Live Tag Titles
The Bludgeon Brothers vs. Team Hell No
Image via WWE.com
The Bludgeon Brothers have been undefeated since returning under the new gimmick. Bryan and Kane have not been a tag team since 2013 but have reunited when Kane came to the aid of Bryan whom the Bludgeon Brothers had targeted. I do believe that eventually the Bludgeon Brothers must be defeated but I wish it was against a tag team such as The Bar or The Usos, instead of a team like Team Hell No who is only back together temporarily. However, I think that there is something more memorable about Team Hell No ending their streak and it’ll give the fans something to get excited about. As I mentioned earlier the Bludgeon Brothers are going to have to lose at some point and this might be it. My brain is saying go with the Bludgeon Brothers but my gut is saying going with Team Hell No.
Prediction – Team Hell No
30-Minute Iron Man Match
Intercontinental Championship
Dolph Ziggler (C) w/ Drew McIntyre vs. Seth Rollins
Image via WWE.com
These two guys absolutely stole the show on Raw a couple of weeks ago and I dont expect anything less here in their 30 minute Ironman match. The push to make the Intercontinental Championship the “work horse” championship again these past 5 years has worked and there are no two better superstars to showcase that then these two. I really believe if done right, this could be a match of the year candidate. McIntyre picked up a victory over Rollins this week on Raw to put the numbers game against him as he’ll be allowed at ringside. I ultimately think he’ll be the difference maker allowing Dolph Ziggler escape the champion and Rollins has his focus being less on Ziggler and more on Drew. I’m sure both men will get their fair share of falls in this match within the 30 minutes making it a close match but Ziggler will squirm away with that one fall that will allow him to retain the IC title.
Prediction – Dolph Ziggler
Smackdown Women’s Championship
Carmella (C) w/ James Ellsworth vs. Asuka
Image via WWE.com
MELLA IS MONEY! I don’t want to see this fun ride to end with Carmella getting decimated by Asuka. I do think Asuka deserves to be champion but I dont see it happening yet. I’m still set in wanting to see Becky Lynch being the one to defeat Carmella. I think either Ellsworth continues to play a role in this match allowing Carmella to win again or even a new distraction such as the IIconics helping Mella beat Asuka. Imagine the ego Carmella can have if she says she beat Charlotte and Asuka twice and then gets challenged by Becky who she mocks for always being close but never getting the job done. The angle is already intriguing. It just leaves me lost on what Asuka would do next until her next championship match. All I know is that it may not be the most popular prediction or choice but I’m going with Mella retaining somehow even with Ellsworth being put in a shark cage above the ring.
Prediction – Carmella
Roman Reigns vs. Bobby Lashley
Image via WWE.com
This is most likely going on last even though I dont think it really feels like a main event. They’ve tried to make it feel like the main event but it just doesn’t. If there was something on the line, like the Universal Championship, I think it could pass as the main event. Right now, it just feels like two guys who wanted a shot at the title, but both didn’t get it and dislike each other just because they dislike each other. They both feel that they are more deserving for the Universal Championship than the other. It doesn’t feel personal but more competitive I guess. I am a fan of both guys but in complete honestly, they’ve both been booked poorly character-wise. Roman Reigns has been for years and Lashley has been booked poorly since he returned. I personally think Lashley needs this win more than Roman. Then you also have a story you can revisit later down the road where Roman has never beaten Lashley and he tries to once Lashley is the champion. I don’t know. The idea of Roman vs Brock Lesnar for the fourth time feels less appealing than Lashley vs Lesnar which we’ve never seen before. It’ll be something fresh and new. Roman doesn’t suffer from a loss here but Lashley might.
Prediction – Bobby Lashley
Extreme Rules
Raw Women’s Championship
Alexa Bliss (C) vs. Nia Jax
Image via WWE.com
Nia Jax lost the womens championship to Alexa Bliss when Bliss cashed in her Money in the Bank the same night she won the briefcase by interfering in a match between Nia Jax and Ronda Rousey taking advantage of a hurt Jax. Alexa is once again a champion but not without a target on her back. Nia Jax and Ronda Rousey both seek revenge. Natalya who is a good friend of Ronda Rousey seeks an opportunity to beat Alexa after beating her a couple of weeks ago on Raw in a non-title match and of course as champion there is a target on your back when it comes to the entire division. Ronda Rousey was suspended after attacking Alexa Bliss during her celebration ceremony following MITB. However, she will be sitting in front row this Sunday. As much as I do see her playing a factor in the match, I dont see Nia Jax walking out victorious because we’re going to get Bliss vs. Rousey at Summerslam.
Prediction – Alexa Bliss
United States Championship
Jeff Hardy (C) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
Image via WWE.com
The Charismatic Enigma faces off against the charismatic King of Strong Style for the United States Championship which also has the potential to be a show stealer. I’m still curious to see if their styles will mesh but I don’t doubt they’ll tear down the house. Shinsuke has been challenging AJ Styles for the WWE Championship since Wrestlemania and this is his first rivalry since then. Jeff Hardy won the United States Championship from Jinder Mahal during the draft to secure that the blue brand would have a mid-card title. I dont think Jeff Hardy losing the championship hurts him but Shinsuke has everything to gain winning the United States Championship after so many failed attempts to win the WWE Championship. Whether it happens at Extreme Rules or Summerslam, Shinsuke needs a big win after a series of hard losses and becoming the US Champion is a perfect way to keep him relevant. Jeff Hardy will always be Jeff Hardy. He’s already a legend from his own time.
Prediction – Shinsuke Nakamura
Steel Cage Match
Kevin Owens vs. Braun Strowman
Image via WWE.com
This one is going to be fun with some sort of creative finish without a doubt. Braun Strowman has been Kevin Owens worst nightmare since he returned to Raw after the draft. It mostly started with Owens being concerned with Braun in the MITB match making it clear that they needed to work as a unit to get rid of him. This didnt sit well with Braun, so since then we’ve seen Braun flip Owens car and push him off the stage on a portable potty. I will admit I’d love seeing Owens sell Braun shoulder tackles as well. In a cage match there is no place for Owens to run or hide. Braun has Owens all to himself in a cage. As much as I see the Monster in the Bank picking up the win, I could see Owens weaselling away with a victory because one of the objectives is escaping the cage before your opponent. The fact that Strowman is involved, the cage breaking is posable and seeing Owens being thrown through the cage and hitting the floor, isn’t out of the picture. I mean we just him get thrown off a ladder last month.
Prediction – Kevin Owens
WWE Championship
AJ Styles (C) vs. Rusev
Image via WWE.com
Finally Rusev gets his WWE Championship shot. Rusev Day is still as hot as ever and now he’s fighting AJ Styles for the ultimate prize. AJ Styles has been on a helluva run since November but spent most of 2018 facing off against Shinsuke Nakamura. This is his first big challenger since Nakamura, and not an easy one at all. Rusev has picked up some surprising victories over these past few months, including one over Daniel Bryan to qualify for the MITB. Therefore, it wouldn’t be a rare occasion for Rusev to pick up the surprising victory. A year ago around this time the WWE took a gamble and put the belt on Jinder Mahal, so would it really be surprising if Rusev won? There is still a part of me that thinks it just won’t be the case this Sunday. AJ Styles retains after a helluva match between two great competitors and moves on to face off against someone like Samoa Joe. As for Rusev, I’m not sure where goes after this but I hope it’s not the last time we see him get a title opportunity because I would love to see Rusev as the WWE Champion one day. He deserves it. As for now, the Phenomenal One continues his championship reign.
Prediction – AJ Styles
