NXT Review 12/07/16
Welcome back to The Wrestling Classic, my name is James Prescott Lewis and I am your guide through NXT, and we are back at it again in Full Sail University. This week is PACKED with breaking news so without further ado, let’s get to it!
#DIY Returns!
#DIY is back and they brought the golf! The champs celebrate their new championship with the crowd, but as soon as they get the mic’s and begin to speak they are interrupted by the Authors of Pain. Ellerings says that the champions celebration is premature, but then they get interrupted by The Revival! The Revival take credit for the Author’s of Pain advancing in the Dusty Rhodes Tournament and then the Authors of Pain get in their faces and push them out of the way. Ellering finishes his statement from earlier and says that the next chapter will be written by the Authors of Pain and it will say: NXT Tag Team Champions.
NXT New Commentator: Percy Watson
A video package plays and reflex on Percy’s short career with NXT back when it was a contest for a WWE contract and future title shot. It really reminds you how far NXT has come. He joins Tom Phillips and Corey Graves at commentary.
No Way Jose & Cruiserweight Champion Rich Swann vs. SAnitY
SAnitY Wins Via Pinfall in 7min
SAnitY comes out, but Sawyer Fulton is not with them. Eric Young brings Fulton’s jacket out and throws it to the ground, spits and stops on it, and then throws it out of the ring. The match last about nine minutes with good back and forth action until a huge man come out of nowhere and attacks No Way Jose and Young hits Youngblood for the victory. The huge man is revealed to be Damo, who grabs Fulton’s jacket and throws it back on the ground before leaving.
What to Think?
I hope they don’t mess this up. I’m not sure what this is all about, if they’re actually kicking Fulton out and replacing him with Damo or what. I liked Fulton’s look and he fit the group very well so if this is a replacement I’m curious as to why and what happened. In my opinion, they need a member who is going to help Wolfe as a tag team partner. I want the next week to hurry up so I can have some answers, damnit!
Announcement From General Manager William Regal
Charlie Caruso is backstage with Regal who says that on January 11th, The Revival will have their rematch for the NXT Tag Team Titles. The winner will face the Authors of Pain at NXT Takeover: San Antonio. Then, Tye Dillinger comes in saying he wants to address what he said last week about not belonging here anymore but Regal cuts him off and says that he is conducting a tournament where there will be four qualifying matches and the winners will compete in a fatal four way to determine a number one contender for the NXT Champion at NXT Takeover: San Antonio and Regal wants Dillinger in the tournament. He says that he knows that he’s struggled lately but that he and the NXT universe believes in him, and ask what will his answer be. Dillinger accepts, and Regal ask him what was it that he wanted to talk about and dillinger smirks and says nothing.
Backstage Segment
Caruso tries to ask Eric Young what happened, but he brushes her aside and keeps walking. Nikki Cross is with him but she gets distracted looking at the NXT Women’s Championship. She gets closer and closer to it and then Asuka picks the title up and they have a staredown.
Ember Moon VS. Kimber Lee
Ember Moon Wins Via Pinfall in 3min
This actually wasn’t a squash match, really, it was more of just a quick match. Kimber Lee had an equal amount of offence, and actually had decent in ring ability, but there is just no stopping a top rope stunner.
What to Think?
Not too much to say here, I think Ember Moon’s time is coming for a title match with Asuka, but earlier in the show it seemed like Cross and Asuka may happen first. I would love to see a triple threat match here, I think all three of these women are on the top of the women’s division in NXT, even though Nikki Cross hasn’t really beat anyone yet, the push she is getting with SAnitY is enough to put her in the title picture I think.
Next Week:
Tye Dillinger VS. Eric Young
Bobby Roode VS. Oney Lorcan
Elias Sampson VS. Roderick Strong
Andrade “Cien” Almas VS. No Way Jose
Winners of these matches will compete in a fatal four way to be number one contender for the NXT Championship.
Osaka Japan NXT Championship Match between Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura
Shinsuke Nakamura Wins Via Pinfall in 10min
This was by far their worst match so far. Steady back and forth action, but no real pops, and then Nakamura hits the Kinshasa for the win. Even after the match, they just replayed the Kinshasa three times.
What to Think?
I think this is a tough spot, anyone who’s a wrestling fan already knows the outcome, I mean if you have the WWE app then they sent you a notification early Saturday morning telling you Shinsuke won. However, the crowd at Osaka even seemed disappointed with the lack of action. It’s a strange way to end things, or is it……
BREAKING NEWS
Next week NXT Champions rematch in Melbourne Australia, only this time it’ll be contested in a steel cage.
Final Thoughts:
Not much really happened this week in the way of matches, but next week looks to be a whole different story. I think there will be outside interference in Dillinger vs. Young. More than likely, the interference will in favor of Young, but after Regal said that he has faith in Dillinger, could he pull the upset? Will Fulton return and cost Young the match in revenge? All in due time. I think Roode and Strong going over is obvious, but it will be interesting who wins between Almas and Jose. I could see that going either way, but I think it will lead to a storyline between the two regardless. With WWE building the Royal Rumble bigger than ever this year, you know that means that NXT Takeover: San Antonio will be equally as hype! Well, that’s all that we have for you this week, if we left anything out, let us know, and we’ll see you back here next week!
