The Revival of the Tag Team Divisions?
Firstly, I want to apologise to everyone for not having a blog last week. I received a lot of hate mail and even a death threat. Circumstances were out of my control and I physically could not get to a computer.
I am deeply sorry that I let you all you down but threating myself and my family was a step too far. The authorities have been contacted and I hope the person/persons is brought to justice. I write this blog for the millions out there who appreciate my work every week and it all took was a couple of people to ruin that…… who am I fucking kidding? No one even noticed!
I am back this week though and after a threat from the Wrestling Classic himself. If I missed another week he would personally fly to Australia and break my legs, so here’s hoping my new computer holds up!
Now to answer question the in the title, I don’t know what the Revival will do for tag team wrestling in the future. I hope that they have the best title reign in tag team history and bring ultimate prestige back to the belts (sorry Vince). Realistically, they might get a couple more matches with Ready Willing and Glorious (my name for Roode and Gable). They may even get a PPV match a Fastlane and these matches will be great, as was the RAW match this week.
Unfortunately, it takes more than good matches for the audience to give a shit about something. The secondary titles have for a long time been much debated over their use and their purpose in the WWE. People shit on Vince Russo but the one thing he did do was make titles mean something (obviously excluding WCW where he put the title on Mr. Arquette).
It’s hard to think back to a time where the tag titles meant something. If you do remember a time after Edge and Christian, The Hardy’s and the Dudley’s were fighting for them. Go on, I’ll wait…. It’s hard and especially the shit storm we have had for the last two years on RAW. Let’s hope the Revival can actually do what they claim to do and be “Top Guys.”
Speaking of a “Top Guy” iff you’re not a fan of Kevin Owens then please, do not read my blog and stop watching professional wrestling. Well maybe that’s too harsh, but I am a massive KO mark and I have really missed seeing that French-Canadians face each week but I was a little confused at what I saw this week.
I am of course talking about the promo in the bowling alley which was followed by Kevin bowling one the most deliberately worse gutter balls I have ever seen. Then I read somewhere online probably from one of the always accurate “breaking news wrestling journalists” that they (WWE pronouns pal) are looking to do the opposite of a Mr. Perfect gimmick where KO fucks everything up all the time.
Firstly, that is a horrible idea, secondly, he doesn’t need a new gimmick. His old gimmick was over, he was hated he was must-see each week. He has dropped some weight, bring him back as the Ultimate Prize-fighter or something like that and let him just kick the shit out of people.
As we move towards the Elimination Chamber which is probably happening as you are reading this, I can’t help but get a case of the “idontgiveashits.” I really don’t see the point of WWE jamming in two PPV’s before Wrestlemania and to be honest, does anyone actually look forward to an Elimination Chamber match?
I mean sure, there have been some cool moments in the Chamber, but I don’t think it would be missed. It’s not like the fans sit around anxiously waiting for the PPV to happen. It’s more like “oh yeah that’s right, they still do the Elimination Chamber don’t they?”
As many wrestlers have said, it’s a lot of pain for not much pay off. Firstly, it looks pretty shit, and secondly, when the guys get thrown into the steel, it barely makes a sound. My big worry is the Women’s tag match becoming clunky and a bit of a mess. The match is hard enough to make look good with 6 people in there let alone 12.
You know what would have been better? Yeah that’s right I am playing the arm-chair booker role right now and telling the WWE exactly what they should have done instead. Have the Women’s Tag Title match at Wrestlemania. Either in its current format with a tornado style match or a good old-fashioned elimination tournament, which leads to the crowning of new champions on the biggest stage of all.
Personally, I would prefer the Tornado style match because as we know, WWE like to give everyone their “Wrestlemania Moment” and instead of having a Battle Royal that no one gives a shit about, have a match that at least some importance behind it.
All things being equal I really hope the Women blow the fucking roof off and have the best Elimination Chamber match of all time. I hope that happens every single match on the card, I hope that for every PPV and every RAW and every live event, because as much as everyone likes to hate on wrestling, we all just want it to be great.
Oh, but if the fucking IIconics win, I’m never watching again.
Kind Regards,
That Wrestling Guy
